New Start Time

Creating a new start time for school brings a bad vision to our school year. Students would have to get used to waking up at a different high school time. By changing this time schedule, teens would still go to bed when they want to, there would be confusion with afterschool activities, and waking up early anyways prepares us for the real world.

Teens always have had a bedtime when we were younger , but we would never would actually go too asleep at that time. So, by doing this students would still go to bed when then they want, and still could end up being tired like now. Like for example , we would wake up at 9:25 , most teens could end up going to bed at 2:00 in the morning and still be drowsy just like normal school times.

Macroecomonics Article Review

... no longer a bellwether” is an article that describes how Black Friday 2015 differs from Black Friday in prior years. The article that was published in the New York Times on November 29th was written by Hiroko Tabuchi. Ms. Tabuchi is a writer for The New York Times that mainly focuses on business and technology from Tokyo and Japanese economics. Ms. Tabuchi has been with The New York Times since 2008. She previously worked for The Wall Street Journal and was a reporter for the Tokyo bureau of The Associated Press. The article expresses that technology is the major factor in the shift of Black Friday this year. More people shopped online over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend instead of actually going to stores. In a survey by the National Retail Federation, nearly 102 million people stated that they shopped in stores over the weekend compared to more than 103 million who shopped online. Consumers also planned on spending approximately $80 less this year than last year, during the holiday weekend, $381 in 2014 compared to $300 in 2015. According to data from Adobe, shoppers spent about $7.2 billion online on Thanksgiving and Black Friday and mobile devices making up a third of how those purchases were made. Another factor is the longevity of the sales. Before you could only get sales on Black Friday, but now stores start the sales on Thanksgiving and they last throughout the entire weekend. This gives less enthusiasm to wake up in the wee hours of the morning on Black Friday...

...Philip Willis English 101 The two very popular American newspapers articles that I will be comparing the tragic event that occurred during 9/11 are, The New York Times and the Washington Post. These two newspapers are similar but also very different the two newspapers which are both Americans daily read. The New York Times has been the older newspaper created in 1851 and winning 117 Pulitzer prices than any other newspaper organization, it’s the world most popular just after The Wall Street journal. This newspapers logo is “ All the news that’s fit to print” the times greatly expanded their organization adding special weekly selections and regular topics it stays as a full page set up with photography as others have changed to tabloids. As well as the Washington Post was founded in 1877 in Washington, making its areas oldest extant newspaper. The Post emphasis a lot of politics its photography is both in color and black and white the newspaper is published as a broadsheet. The Post won only 47 Pulitzer prizes including six Pulitzer prizes in 2008 making it the world’s highest number ever given in one year. In my opinion I believe that the New York Times newspaper has the most descriptive and was greatly written for the event that had occurred in 911. The full Page set up really got me interested in finding out more about what had went on. Juvenile Justie

...remarkable and it should be a sign to allow him to be released for early parole. To start off, Greg Ousley was not a troubled kid, yet he was a child with dreams and talent. No one would ever have defined him as a kid who was a bad influence yet a kid any parent would be grateful to have. Greg has two older siblings and parents whom were happily married, he basically came from a stable family. Before he attempts the murder, he explains how he always has ideas or thoughts of murdering his parents when he has rough times with them. “The 14-year-old boy told his mother that he was scared, that all he ever thought about was murder or suicide” (Paragraph 5). His mother was nothing but shocked, and all she had to say about that was that he watches way too many scary movies. Greg then believes the only way to fix this solution was to kill his parents. A few nights later on around 11:30, Greg goes into his parents room with a 12-gauge shotgun killing the father first then minutes later his mother. For many reasons, this case is not like other cases due to Greg being given 2 consecutive 30 year terms without parole at all. Many would have thought that this incident must have been accidental instead of intentional, yet they got the story twisted. Throughout his days behind bars, he seemed to realize the difference of what’s right and wrong. In his unfinished book named Why I Killed My Parents, it starts off as, “This wasn’t easy...

The quality of their work gave them a competitive advantage over competitors. Finally, the NYT realized early on that it needed to change in order to survive. The NYT was one of the first to recognize the earnings potential and threat of lost business with the internet. The company decided that the digital aspect would be a separate business unit within the NYT. They needed their employees to embrace a growing strategy rather than a century-old newspaper company. Even though the company grew online, advertisements continued to decline. The NYT decided to launch an online subscription since they were attracted to user charges. There are other companies that also are included in the production such as The New York Times, The International Herald tribune, The Boston Globe, and 15 other newspapers that are delivered on a daily bases with over 50 web sites that provides the daily news through the country. There are some wonderful web sites that I would recommend reviewing, NYTimes.com and About.com; I have viewed both sites and there is a lot of detailed information regarding what is going on in our country today. The key sole purpose for the New York Times is to keep all of us entertained with high-quality news throughout the country; but focused on the city of New York. This company has accomplished many rewards and recognitions from August of 2006 to present. This newspaper was recognized in the Forbes Magazine annual list, it was also ranked number 16 on Information Week’s top 500 and the company has also received one hundred percent rating on the HRC Corporate Equality Index. This company has proven the purpose of why they have been established since 1851 and has won 106 Pulitzer prizes which is more than any other news organization. ...1. What are the changes that the newspaper industry is going through? Where do you think the “technology” of news on paper is in its lifecycle? Where is it likely headed? The newspaper industry is undergoing a radical change in three primary areas caused by technology. First, the underlying two-sided business model is changing. With the Advent of internet, news content is easily and freely available from various sources but lacks quality journalism and credibility. Revenues from online advertising are not large enough to compensate for decline in revenues from print advertising & subscription. Newspaper industry is experiencing new realm of new content delivery and in process of understanding and establishing sustainable sources and revenue model. The change from print media to digital media has provided a big challenge for the newspaper industry. Their main revenue streams have always been based on advertising. Online advertising brings much lesser revenues than print advertisements and a big gap appears. The internet causes on the one side the move from consumers to online consumption and on the other side a lot of retailers are using their own website as an advertising tool or are using free websites to reach their target groups. The technology itself is going through rapid changes as is in early stage of adoption by news agencies and consumers. Exhibit 4 indicates a decline in Print subscription for NYT and Exhibit 8 demonstrates steady rise in web traffic for online...

Usa Today Case Analysis

...an immensely successful experiment, a trend - setting hybrid of print and television journalism which in less than 10 years was able to boast a daily readership of 6.6 million. With its effective use of bright colors, high – quality photo reproduction, innovative graphic design, and brief stories, Gannet Co. the parent company of USA Today established the newspaper in its quest to appeal to a new generation of readers who are predominantly young and middle aged achievement-oriented students, professionals and managerial personnel who were heavy newspaper readers and frequent travelers. Weaned on television, this new generation is increasingly attuned to images rather than words and, because of a busier lifestyle, has less time to read than earlier generations of newspaper readers. USA Today has made huge gains by tailoring its product to this market segment. At the same time, it has influenced the form and content of a host of other North American newspapers. The most notable examples are Wall Street Journal and New York Times. USA Today has become one of the leading sources for news in the nation.   It has established its credibility and validity as a reliable and resourceful tool for staying in touch with the world.   While staying in touch with the world is important for USA Today’s consumers, it is equally important for USA Today to stay in touch with its consumers.   As for any business trying to survive and be successful, it is absolutely necessary to stay on the forefront...

...Stars': Love In A Time Of Cancer In his Pulitzer Prize–winning book The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer, Siddhartha Mukherjee writes that as recently as the 1950s, cancer was so feared and taboo that the New York Times refused to print the word in a support-group advertisement. It was the second-leading cause of death in the United States then — just as it is now — but it was as mysterious to most people as mortality itself. There is something monstrous about a disease that kills by wanting to live; cancer's goal is to grow and prosper, with absolutely no regard for its host. It makes sense that people couldn't speak about it — it's not easy to commiserate about a nightmare. And yet, human instinct tells us to band together to fight our enemies, even on the cellular level. Gradually, with scientific breakthroughs and education, cancer became less of a mum word and more of a buzzword. Hollywood jumped on the drama surrounding the disease, and soon films like Terms of Endearment and Beaches were keeping tissue companies in business. Novels and magazine articles highlighted survivor stories; television started adding characters afflicted with illness. Even Sex and the City's carousing Samantha had her share of chemo. In recent years, the trend has gone one step beyond talking about cancer — the goal now, at least for pop culture, is to find the humor in it. Fortunately, John Green is the kind of writer to deliver it. John Green is the New York Times best-selling...

...CASE 9-1: NEW YORK TIMES 1. Describe NYTD’s evolution to date. What is strategy of NYTD? Are the organization and control consistent with the strategy? Evolution: New York Times first ventured into the Internet in 1995. Back then, the company was called the New York Times Electronic Media Company. In 1999, a new operating division, Times Company Digital, was created, which reported directly to corporate management. The new division included NYTimes.com, Boston.com, NYToday.com, GolfDigest.com, WineToday.com, and Abuzz. The new division had a decentralized structure and different organizational structures but still with similar roles as a common newspaper. The different websites were combined in the new organization to be able to learn from each other. A lot of effort was then put into creating a culture of team-work and openness, and the NYTD moved into a new building. This separated unit, first organizationally and then physically, led to tensions between the original Company and the new division. The new culture and employees hired from outside the Company created a very competitive internal environment. In 2001 the company owned several broadcast media properties, and the New York Times brand was believed to be the company’s most valuable asset, built through years of topnotch reporting and analysis, plus marketing and promotion. By September of 2001, NYTD had developed and was operating two websites: NYTimes.com and Boston.com. The websites included Internet access to the...

...New York Times Paywall; The Future New York Times is proof that being a lion for past generations doesn’t equate to being the King of the Jungle in a new generation. The struggles of the NYT are certainly not their own as the newspaper industry has hit hard times in the wired culture. As the article points out, there is very little that has occurred the last half century, from a journalist perspective, that can’t be traced back to the New York Times and its staff of accomplished writers and reporters. But how is it that a company with so much cachet and such a large customer base was not able to launch a successful and profitable campaign online? Even though the NYT posted $2.4B in revenue in 2011, it had been teetering on breakeven Net Income/Loss. In some respects, at the time of the article, the NYT new online “paywall” subscription program was a success – the recently installed paywall had steadily increased the subscription base since inception, getting 390,000 paid subscribers in a 10 month period. Over the course of the last year and a half they had maintained anywhere from 30M to 35M unique visitors in web traffic. However, there was an introductory price of $.99 for four weeks of access for new subscribers, so there were concerns of those subscribers not renewing. To compound those concerns, in that same time period, the total page views dropped from 700M+ to 600M+. It’s interesting to note that the NYT net income numbers have been stagnant since 2008,...
