Carnegie Mellon Professor Randy Pausch (Oct. 23, 1960 – July 25, 2008) gave his last lecture at the university Sept. 18, 2007, before a packed McConomy Auditorium. In his moving presentation, “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams,” Pausch talked about his lessons learned and gave advice to students on how to achieve their own career and personal goals with quotes that have been circulating around the web since his stunning lecture that touched so many people. It gave them courage to live a better life by treating others better and never give up on their dreams. The quotes I think applied to my life are as followed: “It’s not about how to achieve your dreams. It’s about how to lead your life. If you lead your life the right way, the karma will take care of itself. The dreams will come to you.” I have read something like this in the book “The Secret” and I try to do in my life. Karma is a powerful force in the universe that many people do not think about. But when a person is thinking good things in their mind it seems to come out in our expressions and attitude to other person, which makes them happy to. Then in turn it comes back to that person like a circle, if you give the universe good thoughts and actions it returns it back to you. “If I could only give three words of advice, they would be, “tell the truth”. If I got three more words, I'd add: “All the time”. This is something I truly believe in. If you tell someone a lie when you mess up and they catch you, that person will lose trust in you and you will lose their loyalty. But if you tell the truth all the time, a person will know that when it comes down to it, they can trust you in other things and they will be loyal to you for being honest with them and taking responsibility for your own actions or mess ups.

“Find the best in everybody.” Everyone has a good thing about them. Whenever we look for the best

Biolvail

...4011 APRIL 7, 2009 CRAIG CHAPMAN Biovail Corporation: Revenue Recognition and FOB Sales Accounting Background Late on October 9, 2003, David Maris, an analyst at Banc of America Securities (BAS), was trying to interpret the shocking events of the previous few days and finish the write-up of his first report on the Canadian pharmaceutical firm, Biovail Corporation. Maris didn’t like what he saw at the company, but he never liked writing “Sell” recommendations. In any event, he wanted to make sure he was giving the best advice to his investment clients. Biovail Corporation was one of Canada's largest publicly traded pharmaceutical companies.1 For many years, Biovail had applied advanced drug-delivery technologies to improve the clinical effectiveness of medicines. The company commercialized its products, both directly (in Canada) and through strategic partners (internationally). Historically, its main therapeutic areas of focus had been central nervous system disorders, pain management, and cardiovascular disease. Biovail's core competency was its expertise in the development and large-scale manufacturing of pharmaceutical products. It leveraged this expertise by focusing on (1) enhanced formulations of existing drugs, (2) combination products that incorporated two or more different therapeutic classes of drugs, and (3) difficult-to-manufacture generic pharmaceuticals. In the United States, Biovail distributed a number of pharmaceutical products. These included Zovirax®...

Java vs .Net

...Abstract The future of software development is expected to be a near 50/50 split between the Java and .NET platforms. The astute student of software development must do their research and choose which platform they would like to be the most proficient in. There are different advantages to each platform which must be considered. One advantage to the .NET platform is that there are many languages, and by extension many class libraries, that are used in conjunction with each other. .NET also allows developers to produce usable results in a much shorter time frame. Advantages to becoming a Java developer include, generally, a much more intimate knowledge of the code produced and how it works. Another advantage is that with the use of the Java Virtual Machine, code can be written once and run on almost any system without having to recode it. Students must take these differences into account when deciding which platform to choose.   Introduction Object-oriented programming helps to make computer programs much more manageable through the use of reusable objects, inheritance and polymorphism. It was first developed by Dr. Alan Kay and a group of programmers at Xerox in the 1970’s. They developed a language called Smalltalk which was the first to really flesh out object-oriented ideas.(Murphy, 2008) The first wide commercial use of object orientation began with the invention of the C++ language in the early 1980’s; when Bjarn Stroustrup integrated object oriented concepts...

Real Estate Terms

...Real Estate Modeling Quick Reference – Real Estate Development Key Terms http://breakingintowallstreet.com Real Estate Development Key Terms If you want to understand real estate development, you need to know the key terms used to describe properties – whether you’re developing the properties from the ground up or acquiring and renovating them. Even if you work at a bank and only work with real estate investment trusts (REITs), you still must understand real estate at the property-level because REITs are collections of individual properties. Measuring Real Estate Before you develop or acquire a property, you must know how big it is – size is the key metric for real estate. Lot Size Square Feet or Square Meters; Sometimes also Acres (1 Acre = 43,560 ft2) or Hectares (1 Hectare = 10,000 m2). Determining gross area inside building, floor size, and number of floors; also used to calculate land acquisition costs. Building Gross Area Square Feet or Square Meters. Building Rentable Area Square Feet or Square Meters. Measured In: Used For: Determining rentable area; also used to calculate certain construction costs. Company Valuation

...Running Head: COMPANY VALUATION Company Valuation [Name of writer] [Name of institute] Company Valuation Introduction This is the case of a partnership business, Midwest Lightning Inc. (MLI) partnered between two entrepreneurs Jack Peterson and David Scott. Over the years these two partners have developed differences, which have escalated to the point of separation. Hence, in this assignment we are going to provide solution that would be required as the partnership culminates. Overview of the case The partners of the company Midwest Lightning have over the years developed differences and they are now at complete 180 degrees when it comes to their views about the business. The solution that has been suggested is that the partnership should end as the differences have become irreconcilable. In the course of separation, various issues have now arisen, regarding the valuation of the company and how much worth each partner should be accrued in the event of separation. 1) Evaluation of the company-Buy and Sell bids Allen Burke, the accountant of Jack Peterson and David Scott suggested a bid agreement. The agreement finalised was that both owners had agreed on the signing of a mutual buyout agreement. The agreement mentioned that the owners were to submit a secret bid in relation to what the other owner’s half of the business should be. The partner that would offer the maximum price would then buy out the share of other partner. A minimum...

Profit and Loss Paper

...Loss Statement Paper 04/21/2014 BSA/310 Profit and Loss Statement Paper A profit and loss statement is a statement that shows a company’s revenue and expenses over a particular period of time. A profit and loss statement covers net sales, cost of goods sold, gross profit, and net operating income to calculate how much money a business made or lost (net income). It is important for any business to keep an accurate accounting of all transactions to ensure an accurate profit and loss statement. Kudler Fine Foods, for example, has their profit and loss statement from the year ending December 31st, 2003 made publically available. Breaking down this statement will allow us to see how this company performed in 2003. Net Sales Net sales are calculated by taking the total amount of revenue generated from sales and subtracting sales returns and allowances. Sales returns are the loss a company receives from items that were returned for one reason or another. Sales allowances represents money that is lost by offering these returned products at a discounted rate (open box). Kudler Fine Foods generated $10,804,000 in gross sales. They incurred a loss of $7,800 due to sales allowances and returns. This equates to Kudler Fine Foods having net sales of $10,796,200 for 2013. Cost of Goods Sold Cost of goods sold, or COGS, represents the cost of obtaining a product that is to be sold. This can be through a third party wholesaler or through a company’s manufacturing process...
