“I've always enjoyed doing work that intrudes, or helps people.” These were the wise words of Nicholas Winton, a remarkable hero during the Holocaust. He lived by this statement and felt he needed to do whatever he could to help those in need. Winton lived in England when he first learned of what was happening to the Jewish children in Czechoslovakia. The children were being beaten and shot and their items were being destroyed or taken by the Nazis. What really caught his attention was that many of them were orphans. The Nazis had either killed or taken their parents. Winton immediately began to organize his rescue operation that would ultimately save these forgotten children.
