Nikola Tesla

Few people recognize his name today, and even among those who do, the words Nikola Tesla are likly to summon up the image of a crackpot rather than an authentic scientist. Nikola Tesla was possibly the greatest inventor the world has ever known. He was, without doubt, a genius who is not only credited with many devices we use today, but is also credited with astonishing, sometimes world-transforming, devices that are even simply amazing by todays scientific standards. Tesla was born at precisely midnight between July 9th and 10th, 1856, in a small Hungarien village. He was born to his father, a priest, and his mother, an unschooled but extremely intelligent women. Training for an engineering career, he attendedthe Technical University of Graz, Austria and was shortly employed in a government telegraph engineering office in Budapest, where he made his first invention, a telephone repeater. Tesla sailed to America in 1884, arriving in New York City with four cents in his pocket, and many great ideas in his head. He first found employment with a young Thomas Edison in New Jersey, but the two inventors, were far apart in background and methods. But, because of there differences, Tesla soon left the employment of Edison, and in May 1885,
George Westinghouse, head of the Westinghouse Electric Company in Pittsburgh, bought the patent rights to many of Tesla's inventions. After a difficult period, during which Tesla invented but lost his rights to many inventions, he established his own laboratory in New York City in 1887, where his inventive mind could be free. In 1895, Tesla discovered X-rays after hours upon hours of experimentation. Tesla's countless experiments included work on different power sources and various types of lightning. The Tesla coil, which he invented in
1891, is widely used

...Nikola Tesla Who is Nikola Tesla? He is the greatest inventor, the futurist OR If I may say the greatest geek ever lived. Geeks stay up all night disassembling the world so that they can put it back together with new features, they abandon the world around them because they’re busy soldering together a new one. Over a hundred years ago, a Serbian-American inventor Nikola Tesla started fixing thing that weren’t broken. Nikola Tesla obtained around 300 patents worldwide for his inventions. Tesla had what’s known as photographic memory. He was known to memorize books and images and stockpile visions for inventions in his head. He also had powerful imagination and the ability to visualize in three dimensions, which he used to control the terrifying vivid nightmares he suffered from as a child. In 1882 Tesla began working for Thomas Edison. In 1885 Nicola Tesla claimed that he can fix the problem that Edison was having with his DC generators and motors. Edison offered him $50000 if he get problem solved. And when he did and asked for the money, Edison laughed him off and said “Tesla, you don’t understand our American humor.” Tesla resigned then and there. Nikola Tesla was best known for his design of the modern alternating current (AC) electricity supply system. He started working on AC after falling out with Edison. This ignited a feud with Edison, who at that time was trying to sell the world his DC system. Edison DC system required power plant every square mile and couldn’t...

Nikola Tesla (born 10 July 1856 Smiljan, Austrian Empire) a Serbian-American inventor and electrical engineer was the first person to prove and perfect the efficiency of AC (Alternating Current). Nikola Tesla had quite an interesting childhood. As a child his mother would make him do daily exercises to strengthen his mental capabilities. These included repeating long sentences back to her, doing complicated mental calculations, and guessing what another person was thinking. His mother came from a long line of inventors, and she herself was quite the inventor. She made all sorts of tools for around the house. Tesla’s father wanted him to be a clergyman, but that changed after Tesla contracted an infection and was bed ridden for 9 months. He asked his father if he got better if he could be an engineer. His father replied that he would send him to the best technical institute in the country. Tesla's interest in electrical invention was likely spurred by his mother, Djuka Mandic. ...Nikola Tesla, commonly known as The Wizard, was a man known for his brilliant ideas of grand proportions. Though the two articles, Nikola Tesla and the Story Behind his Genius by Leah Binkovitz and The Rise & Fall of Nikola Tesla & his Tower, give an account for the life and achievements of Nikola Tesla, they have vastly different perspectives. These articles have many similarities, but one of the biggest differences is their interpretation of Tesla as a man. While the article Nikola Tesla and the Story Behind his Genius shows Nikola as a remarkable man going on to call him, “a maverick [in both business and in science]” (Binkovitz, pg. 3). The Rise & Fall of Nikola Tesla & his Tower gives a bleak description of Tesla and his life. The introduction...

...Nikola Tesla was famous for inventing and patenting many things. Some of those inventions transported energy, or even harnessed it. Above all, the inventor Nikola Tesla is, arguably, a very brilliant inventor. The childhood of young Tesla was full of grief. First off, Nikola’s older brother died when he, Nikola, was very young. Then he overheard Mrs.Wentzlas, his caretaker, talking, “‘but he’s no genius. Oh Mark, why did it have to be Dane?’” At this, young Nikola Tesla decided he would be greater and smarter than Dane could have ever been, and that included not just inventing things, but training his dog, Keno, to be better at doing tricks than Dane’s dog’ Trixie. As Nikola grew-up, he created many machines. One of these was the Hydroelectric...

... There are a lot of questions to ponder on questions like how do you measure the impact it has made to civilization, does it lead to further innovation or an end product in its own, what negative impact has it had to our world? All these questions are valid questions and lead to me being very subjective on this topic while selecting my 3 innovators and their inventions. Nikola Tesla, one of the most unsung inventors of all, he was arguably the greatest inventor of all time his portfolio included the electrical coil, radio waves and a host of other patents which he still owns till this day. Tesla was born in 1856 in in the Austrian Empire now the modern day Croatia; he was an electrical and mechanical engineer, a physicist and above all an inventor holding over 300 documented patents in the fields of science and technology. What makes him so great was his aspiration to move the human race forward through his inventions, his patents were “freeware” he was not stringent on people stealing his ideas and using it “I don't care that they stole my idea…. I care that they don't have any of their own”- Nikola Tesla. His most prominent inventions are the AC (Alternating Current); which developed polyphase alternating current system of generators, motors and transformers which were a huge usurper to the DC (Direct Current) Technology which...

...Nikola Tesla In the world of electricity there is no inventor more famous than Thomas Edison who fills history books with his world of lights and electricity. Radios, X-Ray’s, alternating current (AC) and the Television are all around today thanks to a man who most American students never hear about in school. The Master of Lightning, Nikola Tesla, is a man who is missing from the very same history book, as Edison. Tesla is the inventor of the electric motor, the remote control, and the Tesla coil. He lit up the world with amazing inventions still used today. To have such a bright inventor, who illuminated the path for such great inventions used today to be left in the dark is an insult to the world. Born in July of 1856 in Austria, the son an orthodox priest and an unschooled woman, Tesla was an imaginative child who was highly encouraged to follow in his father’s lead into priesthood (Hunt, 2012). At the age of seventeen Tesla contracted cholera, being an intelligent young man he made a deal with his father that if he survived he would be allowed to follow his dream and go to a technical college. With his survival Tesla was allowed to fall his dream and went to Technical University at Graz, where he was introduced to the Gramme Dynamo, an invention that inspired and hunted him for years. At the age of twenty-four, while he was walking with a friend in Budapest, he saw a lightning strike and with a stick he drew in the sand his first design for the induction motor (PBS,...
