Reflection of Nonprofit Management and Organization Course The nonprofit sector consists of countless nonprofits across the world that are all trying to achieve various missions. This idea that there are numerous organization that are trying to have a positive impact on the world and society has helped maintain my interest in the nonprofit organizations. I have had an interest in work with nonprofit since I first exposed to volunteering opportunities in high school. Over the course of several years I only developed my basic understanding of what nonprofit organizations area and how they operate. After taking this course, I now have an even greater appreciation for the work that nonprofit organizations do and an even better understanding of …show more content…
There are countless advertisements, billboards, and social media posts that market the services and products of for profit companies. These strategies, however, are also vital for the success of a nonprofit organization as well. An area of marketing that I found to be the most interesting and arguably the most important were the four P's; product, place, prize, and promotion (Tschirhart & Bielefeld, 2012). I had not thought about these elements in regards to a nonprofit before this class, but now I understand their importance. For a nonprofit, it is vital to have a clear product or service in order to understand what the nonprofit has to provide (Tschirhart & Bielefeld, 2012). If a nonprofit did not have a product, then their purpose would also be unclear. Highly associated with product in place. Place refers to the number of locations, how the services can be delivered, and other aspects that are related to the atmosphere of the services (Tschirhart & Bielefeld, 2012). The three main areas of the course that I was able to connect to the responses of Tina Murray, a housing stability specialist at Together Inc., were marketing, strategic planning, and funding. Together Inc. has a well-established marketing plan that involves a website that clearly displays the product and place of the organization. Tina also talked about the great promotional aspect of collaborating with other nonprofits to help further the various missions (personal communication, April 9, 2018). In regard to strategic planning, Tina mentioned that she uses it when working with the various circumstances of the clients, but also during the development of the new, pilot housing program she is directing (personal communication, April 9, 2018). Lastly, Tina also talked about the difficulties of funding and developing a realistic budget. She describes how she plans on getting funding for the new housing program through grants and other possible donors. In addition, she mentioned that certain types of funds can have restrictions associated with them making it important to obtain funding from multiple sources (personal communication, April 9, 2018).
