Did you know that one of the most famous Notre Dame football players only played two plays in his career? Notre Dame has a lot to offer from academics to Catholicism to sports. Many people don’t think about Notre Dame as high academics, but academics is very important to the University of Notre Dame.
The University of Notre Dame was founded November 26,1842 by Father Edward Sorin. It was started because of the lack of Catholic education in the United States. The official name was actually “University of Notre Dame du Lac” which means “University of Our Lady of the Lake”. The Catholic faith remains important to the university. “Did you know that every week there are more than 40 Sunday Masses and 100 daily Masses celebrated at Notre Dame?” (Faith at Notre Dame). The campus also has a very famous location called The Grotto, and almost everyone would recognize Notre Dame’s “Touchdown Jesus”.
Originally only males were allowed to enroll and the first degree was awarded in 1849. In 2017, Notre Dame was ranked as the 15th best university in the country. It has eight schools and colleges and offers numerous undergraduate and graduate programs. It has an acceptance rate of about 20 percent.

It would surprise many people to find out that “Victory March” is “one of the four most well-known songs in America.” (The Notre Dame Victory March: A Touchstone)The other three songs are The Star-Spangled Banner, America, the Beautiful and White Christmas. The original lyrics were written when only males played sports, which is why they were referred to as

Chaplains & Pluralism

...his video that the Old Testament has examples of priests going into battle, marching alongside the soldiers, sounding the horns, and carrying the Ark of the Covenant. He mentions biblical heroes such as Aaron and Gideon as being forerunners to what we call chaplains today.[1] Bergen adds: "Certainly those interested in origins can find numerous biblical accounts of priests at war... Indeed, Old Testament militarism has been a problem for Christian exegesis from early on. Nevertheless, national chaplaincies invoke various examples of chaplain-like functions."[2] There is little doubt that chaplains, or their counterpart in ancient times, have been acting in one way or another with the military groups of their specific era. This paper will examine the history of chaplaincy from the periods of 27 AD to 1600 AD and find that the common principle among these priests of ancient times and chaplains along the spectrum of time is that they offer a glimpse of spiritual hope in situations that can be riddled in hopelessness, death, and despair. Chaplaincy in the Roman Imperial Period The realization that the office of chaplaincy has roots as deep as the Old Testament does not merit the assumption that this office was recognized during the Roman Imperial period. There is speculation that a priest or chaplain would be in the picture due to the many spiritual and religious needs of the...

Bo Knew Football and Baseball, and He Didn’t Major in Either One of Them.

...It is the dream of many young children and teenagers to become a professional athlete, most of them have a favorite athlete that they idolize. When children are very young it is important to encourage them to dream, and to pursue their passions. But there comes a time when it is not in the child’s best interest to mislead them into thinking they actually have a chance at becoming a pro athlete. According to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (2013), only 2% of college athletes are talented enough to play at the professional level. Logically thinking, this means that 98% of student athletes should be preparing themselves in college with a back-up plan for life after collegiate sports, right? Unfortunately, this is not the case. In fact, some people actually support the idea that student athletes should be able to major in the sport they play, and not study for a major that would be more beneficial to them in life. Student athletes that enter college directly after high school lack life experience, and they need guidance when making such decisions that will impact their life so dramatically. It is in these times when we should push students to their limits in order to make them grow to be the best they can be, not let them take the path of least resistance and settle for mediocrity. Allowing student athletes to choose their sport as a major may be the obvious choice for some, but doing so would actually hurt them instead of benefitting them. If we truly care...

The Effectiveness of Tax Software to Individual Tax Payer

...CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION Background of the Study Taxation is one of the natural powers that every sovereign state possesses. It is considered to be the main revenue earning agency for the government of Philippines. Annually the bureau collects practically 80 percent of the total generated revenue. Life of Saint Ambrose

...day lives. The saints are our models of holiness and virtues into our lives as a pilgrim in this world. They inspire us and we also asked their intercessions in order to strengthen our faith and love to God. In order to follow Christ let us imitate the virtues that we can get from the life stories of the saints who are the living witness of God’s goodness and love. In this paper, I chose St. Ambrose as the subject of this research. Because when I read his short life story in the book entitled My first Book of Saints by Son of Immaculate Heart of Mary. I was fascinated on his life story on how he lives and serve his life as the Bishop of Milan. St. Ambrose was largely responsible for the rise of Christianity in the West, and he was very courageous and untiring defender of the independence of the Church from the state. Through this research, I want to know more about him his way of life and his importance in the early History of the Church. Most of the ideas of this research paper are extracted from the books about his life and teachings. 1. Life of St. Ambrose In this part of the paper, we will go to the life story of St. Ambrose his early life, his life before his election to the episcopacy, how he was elected...

Reconstruction of Arguments

...RECONSTRUCTING ARGUMENTS Deductive and Inductive Here we are to learn the techniques for PART I, Making a Critique- i.e., argument reconstruction, by doing the following “steps”: 1. Read the discourse; 2. Number and Bracket arguments; 3. Write an Index of Claims; and 4. Tree-Diagram the arguments. What is critiquing? Benjamin Samuel Bloom (1913 – 1999) - the creator of Bloom’s Taxonomy (1956) following a framework for categorizing educational goals: Taxonomy of Educational Objectives; revised in 2001 by Anderson & Ktrathwohl) with collaborators Max Englehart, Edward Furst, Walter Hill, and David Krathwohl as A Taxonomy for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment. This taxonomy consists of six major categories: Knowledge, Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Synthesis, and Evaluation.  The categories after knowledge (containing subcategories) were presented as "skills and abilities," (manifested by a person’s intellectual abilities as well) with the understanding that knowledge was the necessary precondition for putting these skills and abilities into practice. As revised in 2001, these cognitive skills were rather treated more dynamically by using verbs and gerunds to label their categories and subcategories (rather than the nouns of the original taxonomy as knowledge objectives).  These "action words" describe the cognitive processes by which thinkers encounter and work with knowledge. They are (from the lowest thinking skill): Categories &...

MA, KING MAN CLARENCE UID: 3035145158 POLI 1003 Tutor: Chiu Tak Short Paper Question: What is Presidentialism? What is Parliamentarism? How are they different? Introduction This paper will demonstrate the most prominent features of both Presidentialism and Parliamentarism, thus distinguish between their most contrasting features. I will be tackling this paper from different perspectives, in order to ultimately to suggest a better structure of government. Features such as the efficiency of each system in implementing government policies needs to be considered. Furthermore, factors such as political stability and order needs to be considered in suggesting a better form of government. Political stability refers to the frequency at which the government changes, where as political order refers to level of civil obedience every time there is a change to the political system. Parliamentary system In a political system run by a parliamentary system, the executive power of the government resides with the Prime Minster and her/her cabinet, which is voted by a democratically voted legislature. The party which holds the majority of the support, is said to have the 'confidence' of the cabinet. In the case where there is no majority party in the cabinet, decisions and actions of the government are decided through a series of bargains and debates between the different parties in the...

...Animal Equality: Effects of Giving Animals Rights PHI 103 Informal Logic June 2, 2014 Argument When it comes to animal equality it can be hard to imagine a dog, cat, or even a hamster of having equivalence. When I think of animals, I picture our pets, wild animals, and even those in which are consumed. The question of what is and what is not ethically appropriate in the treatment of animals has is debatable. Peter Singer’s provides a utilitarian arguments for why animals with a certain level of perceptive justify equal moral attention with humans. Introduction Singer calls for the establishment of a “liberation movement” comparable to those that remained emerging up throughout the dated in which he wrote his essay and attentive on such problems as gay, women’s and African-American rights. Noting how previously “legitimate” forms of judgment and prejudice, over time, correctly came to be observed as unfairly and immorally damaging towards definite classes of people, Singer argues that the time has come for a similar pledge to the rights of species that walk on four legs instead of two. The animal liberation movement, which was essentially begun by Singer’s book, Slate.com (2001) argues “It is ethically wrong to use animals in such a way that we cause them suffering, either by deprivation of essential components of a happy existence, or by causing them pain.” (Slate.com, 2001) The animal liberationists would like to disallow most medical experimentation using animal...

Article Review on Technology in Education

...Introduction Technology, when used as an aid in learning, does much more than educate the human individual it also motivates the student to learn. I chose to review the article on the pros and cons of Ipads in the classroom. There was a study that was conducted at the University of Notre Dame for seven weeks by Professor Corey Angst. These students used the Ipad devices for reading and other course related work. The original concept was to use the Ipad as a e-reader and to replace the actual textbook. In the case study though, Angst found that the Ipad could be used as an aggregation tool. Students that were working on a project could brainstorm and put their thoughts down in the tablet and then save the work in a online storage site. The next time the group got together, all students had access to the information. Another outstanding feature is that because they all had the same device, there would not be any technical issues or compatibility problems. (Forbes.com) During the time of the surveys done throughout the semester, most of the students said the iPads helped them to organize their schedules. They said were able to 1. take the initiative to explore additional course topics 2. help manage their time, 3. provided new functions/tools for learning, 4. increased their learning 5. and made their courses more interesting. I thought it was interesting that they students also used the Ipads to study other courses and to also use the device...
