1. Define validation and list FOUR (4) types of validity checks.
Validation is a guaranteeing that a program operates on clean, correct and useful data by comparing the data with a set of rules or values to find out if the data is correct with the system. It uses routines, often called "validation rules”, "validation constraints" or " validity check ", which cross check for correctness, meaningfulness, and security of data that is being input.
Four types of validity checks are numeric check, range check, consistency check and completeness check.
2. List weaknesses of file processing system.
Some of the weaknesses of file processing system are that each department has its own set of files. It also has been used for many years. File processing system also leads to data redundancy which means same information is duplicated in several files. It also isolates data as data are scattered in various files, and the files may be in different format. Besides that, integrity problems also exist where the data values may need to satisfy some integrity constraints. This has to be handled through program code in file processing systems but in database the integrity constraints can be declared along with definition itself. There also exist data inconsistency. …show more content…

The file processing system approach mainly uses data stored on different computers, in different computer files like each department having its own set of files. This may lead to data redundancy, data errors, and data isolation. The database system approach on the other hand, is where the programs and users share data. Yes these resources are useful but they are both based on the cable infrastructure of the building. Especially for a computer science and electrical engineering lab that requires a ton of cabling from CAT6 and RJ45. The main cable that will be used in the buildings infrastructure would probably be CAT6. CAT6 is a standardized cable for Gigabit Ethernet and other network physical layers that is backward compatible with the Category 5/5e and Category 3 cable standards. The reason for choosing CAT6 over CAT7 is because CAT7 would probably not have as much traction as CAT6. It would also be good to have matching jacks and matching patch cables. The three main tools that we would need in this project are the three types of punch down tools used to terminate telecommunications cables which are Manual, Impact, and Multi-Wire. The Manual punch down tool is a small hand tool used by telecommunication and network technicians.
