One idea is to use flooding. The routers keep a check on the packets by assigning them a sequence no. which is incremented for each new packet sent. When a new state packet arrives, it is checked against the list of already arrived list, if it is duplicate then that packet is discarded and if not then it is forwarded. Similarly if a packet with sequence number lower than the highest seen arrives then that packet is considered as obsolete.
With this procedure many problems were encountered:
a) If the sequence numbers wraps around then confusion can occur.
b) If a router crashes then it will lose track of its sequence number, then also problem can occur.
c) If a sequence number is corrupted, then also problem can occur.
To solve these problems age of packets is also included with sequence number which is decremented once after every second. When the age of the packet becomes zero then information from the router is
