2. The technician should than establish a theory of problem of cause. Check for burning smells, look for lights listen for beeps. The technician should also check the boot process to ensure it boots correctly and no issues are detected during the POST stage.
3. The technician should then test the theory to determine the cause, the technician should be practical in checking for the easy stuff first. The technician should also divide the problem into logical arras and continue subdividing the problem until it is isolated.

The technician should then verify full system functionality and implement preventive measures. The technician should never assume that a hardware component or replaced software repairs a computer, as there could be multiple problems currently within the computer. The technician should verify full system functionality and have the user test the computer in a normal condition to prove the problem is resolved. The technician should also consider what is needed to take preventive measure to try and prevent the problem from occurring again.
6. The technician should document finding, that way if the issue occurs in the future the technician will know what he or she has performed previously, also If the customer would like to reflect on what the technician has done to their computer, or if another technician comes to assist in fixing the computer
