...PERSONALIZED NUTRITION AND EXERCISE PLAN 2 Personalized Nutrition and Exercise Plan Identify the health and nutrition problem that may be targeted. Discuss the disease/issue The current health problem I have is my family has a history of heart disease and Type II diabetes. I went to the doctor's office recently where she drew blood for a variety of tests. She was concerned about my blood sugar levels. Everything turned out fine but it made me realize that I could stand to lose some weight and start eating healthier. I do not want to face this problem again and do not want the family history to affect my future. Plus, if I am blessed with children, I want to be a healthy example for them. Discuss four nutritional and/or physical exercise goals My biggest goal is to lose a minimum of 50 pounds. In the past six months, I have gained about twenty pounds, especially in my middle. This is driving me nuts. So, on top of getting rid of the extra weight altogether, I want to erase my “muffin top”. Along with slimming my waist, I would like to tone my arms. One final goal, although I am not sure this one is attainable due to a bad knee, is to start jogging. When class started, I was more active than near the end of class. When I utilized the pyramid activity tracker in week 6, the results did not surprise me. I knew that I had fallen off the wagon so to speak. My average PA Score on www.mypyramidtracker.gov was 65.3 which was mostly due to an afternoon......

... Nutrition Assignment For all children the provision of good nutrition is of utmost importance. For the majority of children, diet should be a varied and balanced mixture of foods that will provide sufficient energy and nutrients to maintain growth and good health (Holden, C., MacDonald, A., 2000). In order to complete this assignment I will be looking at how the Food and Nutrition Essence of Care Benchmark, is implemented in practice. The health deficit I have chosen is the special dietary requirements of a cystic fibrosis child and how they are encouraged to eat in order to promote health within a general paediatric ward. There are nine benchmarks which all consist of different factors to help achieve best practice. I will concentrate on factor ten of the Food and Nutrition benchmark which is ‘eating to promote health’ and reflect on practice in order to state whether the benchmark is being met for best practice. Confidentiality will be maintained at all times throughout this assignment in order to be in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Professional Conduct (NMC 2002). Clinical practice benchmarking is a process through which best practice is distinguished and continuous improvement pursued through resemblance and sharing (DOH 1999). The NHS Modernisation Agency (2003) states that ‘Essence of Care’ has been designed to support the measures to improve quality set out in a first class service. Holden et al (1997) states that poor......

...to better control my eating habits and realize when I was eating unhealthy too often, and how to better balance that by eating healthy and then maybe getting a cookie rather than eating an entire unhealthy meal. After accomplishing this week long monitoring of my diet and exercise, I am fairly satisfied with my daily eating habits and exercise. Rather than eating an entire unhealthy meal, I eat a small dessert or snack at the end of my meal to fulfill my sweet tooth. I am also fairly satisfied with the amount of water I am drinking a day because when I was in high school I rarely ever drank water, and now I drink at least 4 to 8 cups a day and do not drink soda nearly as often or as much when I do. However, while what I am eating is not that bad for my diet, I wish that I could better control my portion size. I tend to grab a large portion at the beginning and eat it all because it is there even if I am not hungry any longer. I instead should grab smaller portions and if I am still hungry afterwards I could go back and get another small portion. In addition, I often snack when I should not snack, for instance, when I am bored or stressed. My go to thing to do when I am stressed is to eat. Stress eating for me means I have junk food and I just keep eating without even realizing how much I am eating. Instead of this, I could stop snacking, but that is not entirely practical. Rather, I could eat a healthier snack such as carrots, grapes, or a nutrition bar when I am stressed or......

...Your Nutrition: Healthy eating is not about strict nutrition, staying unrealistically thin, or depriving yourself of the foods you love to have. It’s more about feeling great, having more energy, and keeping yourself healthy as possible. Healthy eating begins with learning how to “eat smart” it’s not just what you eat, but how you eat it. Your food choices can reduce your risk of illnesses such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. Additionally, learning the habits of healthy eating can build up your energy. Instead of being overly concerned with counting calories or measuring portion sizes, think of your diet in terms of color, varieties, and how fresh it is. This way it should be easier to make healthy choices, focus on finding foods you love and easy recipes that you enjoy .Trying to make yourself healthier overnight isn’t realistic or smart. Make small steps, like adding a salad to your once a day or switching from butter to olive oil when cooking if you’re worried about your l calories. As your small changes become habit, you can continue to add more healthy choices to your list. There's a lot of discussion these days about fit kids. People who care (parents, doctors, teachers, and others) want to know how to help kids be more fit. Most of us consume too much salt in our daily foods. Eating too much salt can cause high blood pressure and lead to other health problems. Try to limit sodium intake to 1,500 to 2,300 mg a day. Protein gives us the energy to get up......

...Research has shown that the top health and nutrition concerns in America are associated with severe diseases like diabetes, obesity, heart disease, cancer and hypertension. Nutritionists assure that physical activity and eating the right foods are the best medicines. However, research shows that Americans do not follow the right recommendations. This was the main reason why I chose to teach this topic. Providing them with the right information and guidelines to face this issue is my goal. Besides being well aware and informed about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, I am a person who is really passionate for food, cooking, and exercising. I am constantly reading and researching about nutritional news, facts and healthy ideas to include into my daily basis. Moreover, I am currently interning at WBHI, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to help women with breast cancer and heart disease. I am confident that prevention and education is key to a healthier and happier life. These are other secondary reasons why I felt motivated to teach students and professors in my community about “Healthy Lifestyle.” I will take advantage of this lesson as a way to educate my peers and professors using the right teaching techniques about what I already know and feel passionate about. First, I most understand their attitudes towards health and food. From past experiences and research, I have acknowledged that students and professors at college and universities like UM are relatively......

...I think the assignment that I enjoyed the most was the Lifespan Nutrition needs Presentation. I found that before this assignment I did learn a lot; basically what are healthy food to eat and what unhealthy foods can do to your body. To me everyone knows that they should eat healthy and such but at least for me I found it more interesting to find out what I am supposed to eat as I grow up; and to also divide it between man and woman made it interesting to see any differences as well. I also though found the Multivitamin Review to be very informative. I printed everything out actually because I think it will be extremely helpful to know what vitamins and minerals that each food has. To know how much sodium is in either chicken or beef. I find it very helpful in making grocery list and just using to help change my eating habits in my life. I think the Multivitamin Review has definitely affected my life in terms of everyday health and nutrition habits. This whole class had helped me drastically concerning my family and I eating habits. Before this class my family and I didn’t really care about what we ate. If we were hungry, we ate. I did a little bit, trying not to eat fast food or going out all the time, but it was hard when my husband has such a high metabolism that he could eat fast food and junk food all day and not gain a pound. However, after this course, and all the information and tips that I know now; my family will be eating healthier, smarter, and much...

...NUTRITION PROJECT I think my diet is very interesting and shows both sides of how I can eat. As you can see, three of my entries show how much salt, fat and calories I can consume along with not drinking enough water. There is also an entry I added to show my current eating habit which is optimal. I just purchased an elliptical/treadmill and started working out for at least an hour a day with my heart rate up and sweating. When I start working out, I am conscious of what I eat. I drink more water, lay off processed and refined foods and honestly I feel better mentally and physically. I will begin with the first three entries logged on my fitness pal. My diet is defiantly high in sodium. I should know better because at the age of 25 (and in a high stress/competitive nursing school) I was hypertensive and taking 10 mg of lisinopril a day. I feel poor diet choices, lack of exercise and low water consumption may have added to this. Luckily now, at the age of 31, I am no longer taking any sort of medication for this. The average recommended dietary intake of sodium for adults is 1,500 mg. The human body actually only needs approximately 180-500 mg/day according to the Centers for Disease Control and prevention. Their website also gives information stating the tolerable level of sodium defined: which is "the highest daily level of sodium that poses no risk of adverse health effects to almost all individuals" is 2,300...

...There were two assignments that I enjoyed doing during this class. These were the three day diet analysis and the three day activity analysis. In doing these I learned a lot about my eating habits and which changes I needed to make to receive the proper balance of nutrition for a healthy living. I thought I ate real well, but there were important nutrients that I was not getting enough of, such as calcium and Vitamin C. The three day activity analysis was fun to see how many calories I was burning. I enjoyed how it used even getting out of bed and brushing your teeth in this analysis. I am an extremely active person, and don’t sit down much, but I didn’t realize how many calories I was using in a day. The assignment that has affected my life and my eating habits the most is the three day diet analysis. Knowing that I wasn’t eating all of the necessary foods for a healthy diet made me want to change it. So, now I am more aware of which types of foods, especially fruits and vegetables that I need to intertwine in my diet. The easiest way for me to do this is to pick foods from each color of the color wheel, so that I know I am getting a variety. Over all I have enjoyed this class and learning not only about a healthy diet, but different diseases. There has been a vast amount of information that has been given in this class that can be carried all the way through life....

...The science of nutrition goes beyond eating the proper foods. I have enjoyed this class more than any of the courses I have taken thus far. Making sure we have the proper nutrition is a life changing event. We have to incorporate everything we have learned into our day to day living. I have to say that I enjoyed all the assignments that we were required to complete throughout the course. If I had to pick one, it would be the pyramid tracker. This gave us the opportunity to analyze the intake of food on a daily basis. We had to really dig down and be honest about the types of food we ate, the amount we were consuming, what type of exercises we participated in if any, and how long we did the exercises on a day to day basis. The thing I loved the most about this assignment is that we really had no choice but to be honest. Getting people to acknowledge their eating habits are not good and getting them to understand what is the proper nutritional requirements recommended by the health professionals is not easy. I learned so much about myself, and also how my decisions affected my family’s well-being. Since the assignment my family and myself have had a new respect for food and exercise. We switched from regular pasta to whole wheat pasta, we switched from regular white bread to whole wheat bread, we eat more fresh vegetables and fruit, and we take walks as a family. We all have noticed an increase in energy and how much more fun we have exercising together as a family. I have this...

...learning so much that will help me better my health and life. My favorite assignment was the three day diet analysis. I have learned so much about my current diet and what I needed to change to make it healthier. I thought I was eating a balanced diet and found I was lacking in almost every area and eating way to much sodium. I am starting to watch the labels on the food I buy watching for that sodium that is so high in so many foods. There are several assignments that have affected me and some of my nutrition habits are the three day diet analysis, the dehydration assignment multivitamin review, and the lifespan nutrition needs. From the three day diet analysis and the lifespan nutrition needs I have learned what I need to eat and what I need to watch for in my diet now and going forward. The dehydration assignment taught me about needing to drink water. Drinking water is a challenge for me I drink too much diet soda and sugar free flavored tea. I am now making it a habit to drink my daily water requirement every day. The multivitamin review made me realize that my vitamin has too much of quite a few vitamins and minerals and is very lacking in others. I have since found a vitamin that is more balanced in all of its ingredients. Overall I think this course has helped me in my diet and activity level. I have been improving my lifestyle for the past few years and now I have learned what I need to improve on going forward. I thought I was pretty balanced......
