Introduction
A physically fit individual has the ability to function efficiently and effectively. A healthy individual enjoys leisure, resists disease and are able to cope with emergency situation. For students in particular, their health plays a vital role in scholastic performance either on curricular or non-curricular. Students’ life demands enough energy to cope up with the stress and meet the deadlines of their different school requirements.
The Department of Education gives importance to the nutritional status of the Filipino learners thru implementation of various programs such as school-based feeding, Gulayan Sa Paaralan and by regulating and monitoring the food being sold in the school canteen. The department believes that a healthy child can able to perform well in school and community. In able to have quality education the learners should be aware of healthy lifestyle.
Amidst the department’s endeavors to provide quality education, there is still a lag with the goal due to poverty that is uncontrollable by the agency. This study aims to show the relationship of the students’ nutritional status with their academic performance.
Background
The Gil Montilla NHS-Manlucahoc Extension which was established in 1989 is located at the heart of Barangay Manlucahoc, a rural community that relies on agricultural livelihood. It is approximately 15 kilometers away from the City Proper. It caters students coming from different mountainous sitios where distance from the school ranges from 5 kilometers to 20 kilometers. Four hypotheses were generated for the study and tested at 0.05 level of significance.
