As people we all have a social identity, to me it is defined as the way we interact with our fellow humans, to our colleagues all the way down to the group of friends we associate with. It contributes to an explanation of all of our behaviors. There is a sense of group conformity to certain rules that are placed amongst by each other, this affects how we define ourselves within the group and how others define us. In a group like this there is constant competition because of the inherent human need to be on top, which in turn creates new conformities to be followed. An important aspect in our social identity is our relationship with technology. We use it to identify ourselves in different ways and another way to compete. With the rapid advancement of technology there is always the next best product out, leaving the availability to always try to be on top. Identifying ourselves with technology seems like a far out idea but is one in which we have brought upon ourselves. When we see someone with an ipad we see it as a sign of luxury and wealth. Having this product you are saying to the world that you are worth the name this product gives, and if two people have the same product the next step up is who has the better accessories. It is in this way that technology has become a social norm, where before it was only the privileged with these advancements we now see it everywhere. This where we draw the social norms from in which we feel compelled to comply with.
Having social normalities to comply with brings us to the issue of the desire to be nonconformant. It is natural human nature to want to stand out and be different in a personal way. Wanting to rebel against the social conformities in which we play a role in setting is a huge part of the idea of freedom we all want to have. Being told what to wear or how to talk is all inclusive in our social identities, so why

...Ipad vs. Kindle When you hear the word Ipad vs. Kindle there will always be comparisons but unfortunately, there is only one, that’s better than the other. Some people read a couple of books each on the Kindle, and IPad and take notes to differentiate their experience, reading speed, eye strain and so forth. Most of them were busy with the hard task of watching movies back to back to see how long the iPad’s battery would last. Only one reviewers and critics mentions actually reading a complete book on the iPad. The Ipad and Kindle are similar in many ways. They both are hand held devices that are portable. You can read books on both. Kindle devices can also sync with iPhones as well as ipads. Both ipad and kindle software is compatible with Windows, iPhone OS, BlackBerry, and Mac. Kindle device can be used without a computer and provides free access to the internet. At first kindle devices didn’t have apps to launch but, now you can’t shop for puzzles, games, travel guides and more, just like the ipad. Finally the ipad and kindle are equipped with 3G wireless that allows quick download of books. The Ipad and kindle are different in many ways as well. Kindle has 450,000 books as compared to the iPad’s starting selection of 60,000 titles. Kindle is lighter (10.2 ounces) and you can read with one hand. Ipad is ‘much heavier’ (1.5 pounds) and ‘most people will need two hands to use it’ .Kindle has much better battery life which you can leave 2 weeks with wireless turned...

...Case 2: Apple Inc. in 2010 The establishment of Apple Inc in its early history always was based on innovation. The founders were highly successful designers and builder , but the key to success was the abilities of the financial partner Mr. Markkula. Mr. Markkula was the key figure for gaining financial capital for the start-up business. Apple wanted to bring a computer into the market that was easily utilized by customers. Apple Computer was focused on differentiation in the beginning providing products to its consumers. Their success would eventually cause others to focus on this market of which IBM caused changes in Apple’s market Apple’s changes of CEO are easily identifiable by the company’s changes in strategy. Some strategies were internal such as reducing costs and others external were in marketing to increase brand recognition. Upon Jobs return to CEO, he clearly identified his strategy as differentiation providing the customers a product that they would only want to purchase from Apple Inc. Jobs utilized his external resources to develop partnerships with Microsoft and Intel to improve upon the Macintosh platform. Apple was very successful in this venture providing their customers with a high quality product of which they willingly paid premiums to enjoy. Wireless Technologies

...The two wireless technologies that we have chosen to be implemented in the Party Plates Organization are POS-Scanners and Ipads. The point of sale scanners are hand held or can be stationary devices used to capture and read information contained in a barcode. This tool will be helpful to help mark and scan the merchandise that’s for sale. We have also chosen the Ipad. An ipad is a technical device that is basically a handheld computer. The ipad has lots of different social networking apps on it that will help us with the advertisement of the organization as well as help us keep schedules and notes on it. These devices are good for the business because they are both handheld and can travel with us wherever we go (on the go devices). They are also equipped with the latest form of modern technology. The only bad thing about the device is they can be easily lost/misplaced since they are on the go devices and a lot of computer operated systems may crash. Material deviation between actual occurrence and expectation in a performance report, which warrants management investigation. Apple vs. Samsung

...cost of these patent wars to consumers, shareholders, and investors is yet unknown, but it is increasing both business costs and product pricing. Some of the things that Apple claimed had been copied by Samsung are: the Galaxy line infringes the “Trade Dress” (which refers to design aspects that are non-essential to the function of a device) of the iPhone and iPad by using a rectangular design with rounded edges also the black borders around the Galaxy Tablet are very similar to those exhibited by the IPad; the use of small square app icons and the software used by Samsung were one of Apple's claims. I think Apple has a point with respect to software used by Samsung, but despite that does not seem to be anything more. The shape of the phone and tablet are just consumer trends, we can take as an example the controllers of the game consoles. When a company created better ergonomic controller, the trend of the other companies was to create a better and in the process tended to imitate a little of his predecessor. An Apple spokesman said “It's no coincidence that Samsung's latest products look a lot like the iPhone and iPad, from the shape of the hardware...

My group, management, had the second highest rating at a 2.78 and I felt that we were fairly critical of the different strengths and weaknesses for the company. The groups that pertained to a more financial aspect like finance and accounting seemed to have lower scores, which were not as far above the average for utilization of resources internally. This seems interesting because many companies use resources outside their company to assist them in correcting financial problems. Also, there were a few strengths and weaknesses that every group mentioned in their matrix and they were: Steve Jobs leaving and then returning(W), large increase in inventory(W), products are globalized(S). It was interesting to see that Steve Jobs leaving and then returning was on everyone groups list because with out him these last few years Apple Inc. would probably not be where it is at today. The only downside to this is that there seems to be this great dependency on one person in...

They consistently maintain the quality production and this has earned the company a great advantage for the customer to purchase their products (Evans 56). Apple has never been a follower of the general trend in its field, but a leader in manufacture differentiated products. For instance despite the fact that rivalries such as Nokia and Samsung produce smartphones with large touch screens, Apple insists on maintaining its iPhone’s screen size and preventing iPhone to be ordinary. Their smartphones are always fixed with original batteries, and are designed in solid black or white with edgeless shape, which now becomes a signature of iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Concepts Essay

...CONCEPTS ESSAY: Book Value of Equity FIN/571 November 16, 2015 University of Phoenix “Book Value of the firm’s equity is probably the least informative item on a balance sheet (p.53)” The above statement, based on further research of book value, and how informative it is; could hold true. A balance sheet states that; assets = liabilities + stockholder’s equity, and stockholder’s equity is also known as a firm’s book value. Book value is a snap shot of a firm’s acquisitions. When an asset is purchased it has a matching book and market value, as time goes by the book and market values change. In the case of Apple, Inc., the current book value is: $119.335 billions of dollars; while the market value of Apple Inc., is $706.54 billions of dollars. These numbers are so far from each other and, there are several reasons for the diversity. 1. High Margins - As stated by Steinberg (2012)” Over the last 3 years, Apple’s return on investment exceeds 100% and the company’s annual gross margins pass 40%”. In this instance for Apple, the use of its current assets as well as the resources generate the income Apple needs to stay on top in the world of technology and innovation. 2. Book Value - Company’s in trouble have to rely heavily on their book’s value as potential buyers and investors look there to make their decisions about the company’s worth. Apple’s book value is totally irrelevant, as the company does not have to worry now or in the future about filing bankruptcy...
