Gay Marriage Ruins the Current Stellar Institution of Marriage

...Gay Marriage Ruins the Current Stellar Institution of Marriage Marc S. Fedroff Everest University Online Gay Marriage Ruins the Current Stellar Institution of Marriage Starting with the last prompt of the assignment, according to our textbook, “Win-win orientations assume that there are usually ways to resolve differences so that everyone gains…When all people are committed to finding a mutually acceptable solution, a win-win resolution is possible” (Wood, 2009, p. 230). Unfortunately, here is the precise problem with the religious zealots who call themselves Christians. They are forever stuck in a win-lose orientation. What becomes ludicrous is they believe somehow, the human right to share love with an individual of the same sex in a committed relationship with all of the legal benefits will cause strife for them. None of the gay population is telling them to marry same-sex individual yet they insist, if gays want to marry and raise a family, it must be with someone of the opposite sex. Heterosexuals are doing such an exemplary job of getting marriage right that is common knowledge the divorce rate hovers around fifty percent. The point here is the INSTITUION OF MARRIAGE has been in the toilet for quite some time now and the only thing extending the legal right to gay couples will do is boost the economy with fabulously lavish weddings and then the inevitable lining of divorce lawyers’ pockets. Cynical humor is part of the gay culture’s way of dealing with the...

Boyscouts Allowing Gays

...birthday 2-8-2013. About 2 months ago while I was watching the news on KARE 11 one of the headlines was that the “Boy Scouts of America are considering allowing Gays in the organization”. On 2-6-13 I read a news article published by Miranda Leitsinger, a staff writer for NBC news states “Boy Scouts: We need more time for decision on gay membership”. This was brought before the Supreme Court in 2000 and they ruled in their favor stating that this was legal free speech by a private organization and thus did not have to allow gays to join. I wonder if it was a sense of shame and conscience that brought about the statement in January. As society in a whole our views have changed about limiting people to organizations based on their sex, sexual orientation, color or ethnicity. With the recent articles about being gay and bullied coming out over the last year it doesn’t look good that the Boy Scouts sill up hold such unethical policy of discrimination. The solution that was put in place by the Boy Scouts after they had released to the press that they were going to consider allowing gays in Scouting was followed by poll for people for or against allowing gays. This is a Utilitarianism theory on the boy scouts part as they were looking for the public to make up their mind for them and be able to blame others. The Boy Scouts of America have Absolut phobia and should develop their own autonomy as to whether they want to about the situation. “The mission statement of the Boy scouts of America...

Sociology

...Jessica Suarez Unit 3 IP Hate crimes are a tragic part of American history. Hate crimes can be defined as violent, intolerant, bias motivated actions against people because of their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, disability or gender. Hate crimes have probably existed since the beginning of society. Every minute of every day in the United States you can find children playing. You also go to find somebody talking on their cell phone to their loved one. Every day so once churning sweet 16 is getting the car of their dreams. And also 21 times a day so one is being be up, bullied, or some other kind of hate crime is going on. Create a profile of the typical individual who commits hate crimes. When creating this profile the only thing I had to do was look in the mirror. Anyone can commit a crime. It doesn’t have to be physical. Most hate crimes are verbal and or mental. But if he had to give a profile they would be mainly young, Caucasian males between the ages of 16 to 25. The people who commit these hate crimes usually judge people based on their sexual orientation and or their race. It is very common for minorities to commit hate crimes not only against other races religion for sexual orientations but against Caucasian people as well. Who are some targets and/or victims of hate crimes? Typically in the United States the victims of hate crimes are normally any minority class other than Caucasian. And anybody that is not heterosexual. African Americans, Middle...

Salvation Army

...The Salvation Army Week4TeamC Ethics and Social Responsibilities 17 June 2013 Professor Ward Scheitrum The Salvation Army The Salvation Army’s duty to the community stems back in history. In, 1852, William Booth started his ministerial profession, desiring to win over the hearts and minds of England and bring them to Christ. He would walk the streets of London as an advocate for the gospel of Jesus Christ and would primarily focus his messages to the needy. He disagreed with the ideas of the stance that the churches of London took. He decided to take his idea to the people, instead of fighting the church. His commitment led to the disagreement with the religious leaders, who believed in the teachings of the churches beliefs. He decided to leave the church because of that reason and toured across England, to establish meetings in order to gain substantial like minded believers. This essay keys in on a few important points, such as; influences of the organization’s social commitment, social responsibility, and their potential moral and ethical effects on the world today. What many people do not know is that the Salvation Army is motivated by the Christian church. The Salvation Army improves the quality of life and to meet the needs of those less fortunate regardless of religious preference or any other bias. They are here to help but their main focus and social initiative is to spread the word of God and to help others in his name. This is their...

Women and Sexual Orientation

...Women and Sexual Orientation Adam J. Hayden ETH/125 January 25, 2013 Lyron Baggerly Women and Sexual Orientation For millennia there has existed no single group of individuals more discriminated against, nor marginalized in civil or basic human rights, in politics, economics or domestically, than women. Notwithstanding the Women’s Right Movement, this percentage of the United States populace has continued to be sidelined by the patriarchal notions of the past. Likewise, the consensus views of society concerning Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals and Transgendered individuals (GLBT), historically has been that of derision and malice, viewing those individuals of this community as an abomination against all morals and ethics, usually using religious scriptures to back up these claims. Within the last couple decades, headway has been made to provide these two minority groups equal rights as established by Federal and State laws, but let us look at the history of these movements within the United States. The traditional role of women, as maintained by archaic and patriarchal views is that of a housewife. Her duty is to be subordinate to her husband in all things, providing him with offspring, raising them, and generally be a homemaker, supporting him emotionally, but making no decisions without his say so. If she were blessed enough to have a husband who respected her, she might be able to find a part-time job outside of the home, in order to supplement his paycheck...

Human Sexuality

...Socio-Cultural Influences on Sexuality There is nothing that sparks a debate more than the topic of sexuality. The multitude of opinions in societies displays an attempt to define, promote, or control sexuality. Sexuality is a part of our humanity in which defines sex, gender identities, gender roles, sexual orientation, pleasure, intimacy, and instigates procreation. Though, sexuality is experienced and expressed through thoughts, desires, beliefs, attitudes, values, roles, behaviours, and relationships; it is greatly influenced by societies, cultures, historical perspectives, religious perspectives, biological forces, psychological theories, ethics, morals, and legal factors. In the United States, known as the “melting pot” because of the mass amounts of cultural influences brought in by immigrants worldwide that now reside on its land; one of the biggest concerns in regards to sexuality are the social and public health challenges that influence sexual behaviours, attitudes, and beliefs. Sexual behavior in not just a personal matter between two people, but rather a theme that can affect society in terms of social expectations for sexual behaviors, gender identity, roles, stereotypes, and bias. Social Expectations on Sexual Behaviors “Sexuality is an important part of our lives” (King, 2012, p.1), currently and amongst the generations before us. Throughout history, sexual behaviours have been largely influenced by culture, religion, and historical perspectives...

...Julia Petros October 23, 2013 Sociology Response to ‘Middle Sexes: Redefining He and She” 1. When we say transsexual, we are talking about people who truly feel like they are supposed to be the opposite sex. Almost as if these people were born into the wrong body. Emotionally and psychologically, they believe that they would be more comfortable and happier if they were the opposite sex. When we use the term intersex, we are talking about humans who have abnormally been born with both sex organs. Both of these words are commonly known in today’s society, although they are not necessarily accepted. 2. Hijras are people in South Asia who were born male, but take on female roles. These roles can include women’s clothing, chores, and a gender identity. By understanding that it’s not just America that has abnormal sexual identities, these rare cases are seen all over the world. If you argue that people who wish to change their sexual identity were raised improperly, the study of Hijras can lead you to the conclusion that it is, in fact, biology that controls our actions. Human sexuality is consistent throughout the entire world, whether it be transsexuals or hijras, there are always cases that defy the typical gender identities we label as “normal”. For another example, in Thailand, a transgender male is called a kathoey. A kathoey is a born male who takes on female roles much like the hijras in Asia. Many Thai citizens consider kathoey much like a third gender. Kathoeys and hijras...

Sexual Orientation and Identity

...homosexual which means that they only like people of the same sex, and some are bisexual which means that they are interested in both sexes, choosing what sex you like to date is called sexual orientation. There is also something called sexual identity which is what sex you choose to be some men want to be women and some women want to be men. There are two movies that make great examples of this which is the crying game and boys don’t cry. I was born a female and that is what I choose to be, though I can be a bit tomboyish. I also am bisexual but I am choosing to marry my fiancé who is the man of my dreams and my soul mate. Research has shown that there is a possibility sexual orientation can be based on genetics. Many anti-homosexuals would love for that to be true so they could try to eradicate homosexuality, but there is no evidence to back up that statement. Also homosexuals have the same hormones and brain function as heterosexuals, so it seems for the most part sexual identity and orientation are a lifestyle choice and has nothing to do internally with the body the only guess is that it is the adrenal cortical steroid. Sometimes though genetic defects can occur, these can confuse someone or make them feel like they are living a lie. Though weather through choice or defect identity or orientation. It is not up to anyone but that person to decide how they want to live or who they want to live as government should have no say in...

Question of Sexuality

...The Question of Sexuality Shakespeare is known for being one of the greatest play writers of all time. Due to his clever use of language and rhyme, many people like to use his work when teaching literature or drama. He is also notorious for implying religious beliefs and suggesting themes that may not be well accepted during his time. One of these major themes in Twelfth Night happens to be the question of sexual identity throughout the play. From the beginning until the end of the play, Shakespeare shows how the idea of sexual identity can be questionable and how it affects the main characters throughout the play. As the play Twelfth Night begins, the reader gets a first glance at how Shakespeare suggests the idea of cross dressing through Viola, who poses as Cesario in order to work for Orsino. “For such disguise as haply shall become the form of my intent,” here Viola tells the Captain her plans and asks him to keep quiet. Wearing her brother’s clothing, she disguises herself to be a man because she fancied Orsino and to get closer to him. In this scene Shakespeare raises the question of Viola’s sexuality because of her cross dressing. Even though the idea of cross dressing seems to be over stepping social acceptance bounds, it is also ironic considering that theatre at the time always contained cross dressing if a play consisted of female parts. Viola’s relationship with Orsino progresses rapidly in a matter of a few days which helps to understand how Viola...

Gay Adoption

...couples should be allowed to adopt in all fifty states. Today, in America, there are thousands of children reported to be living in homes with at least one gay parent. In most cases, the partner of that gay parent is given no legal parental rights. Should homosexual partners be allowed to adopt? Evidence on the effects of gay and straight parenting is very incomplete. With this lack of evidence proving that homosexual couples would be unfit parents for a child and that heterosexual couples could provide a superior home, there is no reason that gay marriage should be banned in any state. This is especially true considering that adoptive parents are subjected to various background checks including mental and financial stability. Sexual orientation does not affect the mental and financial situations of a couple and should therefore not affect their ability to adopt. Only nine states allow openly gay couples to adopt in the same manor that of heterosexual couples....

Couselling Ethics

...Introduction               An organization's code of ethics forms a system to guide the counsellor through appropriate approaches and it protects the human dignity of the client. It is acknowledged that the Singapore Association for Counselling Code of Ethics (SAC) has many similarities and differences compared to the American Counselling Association Code of Ethics (ACA). This paper will compare the two code of ethics using the systemic perspective model which comprises of eight specific areas, mindset, emotional, physical/biological, philosophy, culture, political/economic, social and environment.               Systemic perspective model is based on a framework whereby different components of a perspective can be understood in parallel with each other rather than in isolation. Specifically, this paper will illustrate these comparisons between the perspectives based on same sex issues.   Systemic Perspective Model               Mindset             When dealing with clients who face a crisis in sexual identity, the counsellor must maintain an open mindset and not form prejudices that might hinder the counsellor-client relationship. Mindset is a fixed disposition that predetermines an individual’s response to a situation. As a counsellor, one must be receptive to all views regardless of societal influences, especially on a contentious issue such as homosexuality. It is evident that both SAC and ACA code of ethics recognized diversity as their key point, hence, the counsellor...
