O157 H7 Substance Abuse Case Study

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service has announced the recall of over 167,000 pounds of ground beef products because of a possible E. Coli contamination. A subsequent statement released by All American Meats admitted that their beef may be contaminated with the bacteria.

The beef in question was sold in 60-80 pound boxes in stores across the country. The initial problem came about when the FSIS's in-commerce surveillance program testing received a positive result for E. coli's O157:H7 bacterium, which was traced back to All American Meats.

The agency urges any customers who have purchased these products to not consume them, they should be thrown out or returned to their place of purchase. There have been
