I agree with President Obama that we should begin pushing to free America from dependency on foreign oil. Not only does that dependency make the United States venerable from an economic perspective, but also in a military perspective. As long as the U.S. is dependent on other sources for oil and other resources, it’s in constant danger of being cut-off, or even worse, coerced (1) into performing actions for other countries. According to a recent statistic from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, in 2009 over 1.5 million barrel were imported from countries that were members of the OPEC with over 62% coming from Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, and Nigeria. Another 1.7 million barrels were imported from non OPEC (2) members (2010). Any of those countries could decide to stop exporting oil to the U.S. which would cause the, already struggling, economy to possibly collapse. By turning to renewable resources such as solar power and clean coal, President Obama is attempting to rid the United States of those possibilities and become more independent. Opposing arguments may believe it’s unnecessary to spend money on such expensive projects, but the outcome is well worth the price. Everything costs money in today’s global economy so why should research be any different? Another view states that the U.S. could continue to drill off of its own oil reserves to help. That is one possibility; however the idea is to hold on to its own reserves for when it actually is needed. Because oil is not renewable, careful consideration must be used in deciding how it gets used. Currently, fossil fuels, like crude oil, contribute to an average of 83.7% of the energy in the United States alone (U.S. Energy Information Administration, 2010). It’s only going to last for so long. In the end, I think making the push for alternatives to oil can only benefit the United States. It will create cheaper

From the 1960s to the 1980s healthcare spending went from $28 billion to $255 billion. By the beginning of 2000, healthcare spending increased to $1.4 trillion. The United States economy has slowly declined due to several factors, the cost of health care is one. Presidents, state representatives, hospital and insurance executives, and economists have tried to attack this huge deficit. There are several things that can be done in order to reduce rapidly increasing health care spending. Some actions that could benefit the United States economy is the stop of wasteful spending, create a team to control fraud, and give incentives to health care providers. My Persuasive Argument In A Secondary Education English Course

...When I first began my intellectual journey here at Howard University I did not believe I was properly prepared for the level of rigor and extensive detail needed to excel in a secondary education English course. At the beginning of this course, I was nervous about my ability to present a strong persuasive argument in my writing because I knew persuasive arguments is not where my strength resided. In my English class last semester, I developed a better understanding of proper sentence structure and developing my ideas fully in my papers. Soon I came to realize this information was the mere surface of the necessary tools needed to complete a well structured essay. This course pushed me to dig deeper into the world of writing. Comprehensive Grammar Answer Form

...writing. In fact, the three universities that I have attended in the past have all required me to use the APA style of writing. As I recall my high school years, the APA style of writing also seemed to be a favorite amongst my high school teachers. They all required that term papers be written in APA style as well. This type of writing actually does not differ much from the ones included in the text reading. The text mentioned the APA style of writing several times. In my opinion, it appears to be the most popular style of writing, especially amongst college students. Based on the results of the quizzes, my grammar skills were actually a little better than average. I actually had expected to do better, but I guess my grammar skills are not as good as I thought they were. In any event I feel very confident when it comes to spelling, as I have always been a great speller. Even in grade school, I was a good speller. I learned at a very young age to challenge myself when it comes to spelling. Challenging my-self in that area really paid off as I became older, as I’ve never had a problem with spelling. However, I feel that I need more help with run on sentences and with thought patterns. Though I proof read my paper several times, it’s hard for me to see that I have several run on sentences until after I get my grade back. In general, I feel that my writing is just mediocre. However, I also believe that when it comes to writing, I am my own worst critic. Reason being, I am never...

...Terrica Thomas Mr. David Makhanlall Eng 090 12-11-11 My journey as a writer is when I do my papers I have to make sure that I have the correct grammar and no misspelled words. Because when write you want to make sure that your papers flows and that you stay on topic. Because you as a writer wants the people to understand what they are reading. Because your paper have to have so meaning to it and it have to have some clarity to. When I revise my papers it make me look at the things I done wrong. Like when I have misspelled words I can correct them and when I have sentences that don’t make sense and I take the out. When I write I make the mistake of writing a lot of write on sentences. I have to make sure that I don’t do that anymore. I have to make sure that I don’t forget the punctuations because I have the habit of not putting them where they belong and stuff. When I was writing my paper on my mother I think that I did a good job but I think that I could have writing about her goals in life. What she has done with her life right now and what she wants to do right now. I could have talk a little more about what she has done for me when I was growing up. What she had to do to raise three girls on her own. The pattern of errors that I need to work on is run on sentences. Because when I write I can write a sentence that can go on and on forever without a period. A sentence fragment when I write I tend to write a sentence that don’t make any sense...
