He is Penelope's hero because he had so many chances to betray Penelope. While Odysseus was on the island of Circe, his men got turned into pigs. The only way they could be set free is if Odysseus would sleep with Circe. When he was sleeping with Circe, he never really gave consent in his heart to sleep with her, but he only did it for his men. While they slept together, the only thing he could think of was his wife Penelope. Not only is Odysseus a hero to his wife by not betraying her, but he has so much motivation to see his wife again. While on Calypso's island, Odysseus was stuck there for 7 years. Odysseus was treated very well on the island though. He wasn’t a slave there, and was treated more like a king than a peasant. While on her island, he had the choice of staying there forever. If he would stay there, he would still be treated like a King, be with a pretty goddess, and would never grow old. Odysseus refused the offer and said he would rather spend a moment with his wife then live for ever with a goddess. This is a true man. He would rather give up wealth and see his wife for a moment, then to be wealthy for life and never see his wife. On the outside it may look like he betrayed her because he was forced to be with another woman other than his wife, but on the inside, he never wanted to sleep with any other woman but his …show more content…

He gets stranded on a piece of the ship and still had the same drive and courage to get back up and to go home to see his wife and son. For instance, when he found out that his mother killed herself in The land of the dead, “... [He] grieved,/ but held her off, through pang on pang of tears…” (63-64). Odysseus has dealt with a great loss, but he has to move on and not let it get in his head.
