After going out with Augustus a few times, Hazel is conflicted about her feelings for him. In “I Hate You I Love You” Olivia O’Brien and Gnash sing about being in love with someone, yet wishing they were not in love, and being conflicted about love. The chorus of the song goes “I hate you, I love you, I hate that I love you” (O’Brien and Gnash). The lyrics talking about having mixed feelings for someone hence the beginning of the verse “I hate you, I love you” (O’Brien and Gnash). Then, in the rest of the verse “I hate that I love you” (O’Brien and Gnash), talks about how they hate being in love with this said person.
