‘1MALAYSIA.’ DISCUSS THIS TERM WITH EXAMPLE AND HOW IT HAS IMPROVED MALAYSIA. Improving government efficiency is an important aspect of 1Malaysia. The use of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), metrics and targets more typically used in private business and National Key Result Areas (NKRAs) is thus naturally an important part of the 1Malaysia effort. Najib says the government is committed to carrying out a transformation programmed as its main agenda based on approaches and philosophy of 1Malaysia people first, performance now.

Immediately after assuming the office of Prime Minister of Malaysia Dato Ser Najib Tun Razak introduced a series of KPIs in order to measure and improve the efficiency and quality of government services as well as realizing the 1Malaysia concept. Najib said that KPIs were implemented to make sure the people’s satisfaction whether they are satisfied with our service, whether we have solved their problems.
Najib's announcement of the KPI effort was generally well-received. Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the KPI formula was a measure against which the people could measure the performance of Najib and the government. He said the KPIs would provide motivation for every minister to perform well.
The KPIs provide a mechanism for the evaluation of ministries and other government agencies including performance reviews carried out every six months. Each ministry has been required to establish specific KPIs including that focus on policy outcomes over the traditional emphasis on inputs typically found in government performance assessments and planning. KPIs include detailed job descriptions and goals for ministers, deputy ministers, and some other senior government officials.
Najib has identified six major policy areas in which KPIs will play an especially important role in improving the effectiveness of the Malaysian government. These are known as National Key Result Areas (NKRAs). The NKRAs include crime prevention, reducing government corruption, increased access to quality education, improvements in the standard of living for low income groups, upgrades to rural infrastructure, and improvements in public transportation.
1Malaysia Student Discount Card (Kad Diskaun Siswa 1Malaysia or KADS1M) was launched by Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-Operatives and Consumerism with the objective to help undergraduates and students at private and public education institutions of higher learning to reduce the daily cost of living. Students need not apply for this card. The higher learning institutions are responsible to submit the information of the students to Bank Rakyat instead.

Najib also introduced a new cabinet position to support the Unity and Performance Minister in implementing the KPI system. Idris Jala, the former CEO of Malaysia Airlines, was appointed Minister Without a Portfolio and CEO of Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu), to work with Dr. Koh Tsu Koon in training over 500 government officers to implement the KPI system. As CEO of Pemandu Idris will support the work of Koh, who is the minister in charge of National Unity and Performance Management.

...THE POWER OF ONE-THE CONCEPT OF ONE MALAYSIA January 12, 2010 by mthago One means undivided. One means unity and one means power. When there is unity there is power. Men try to gain power and glory and men knows that they cannot gain power and glory without unity. Men try to gain unity through many ways and history has shown us that most of the attempt to unite the people has failed. Men will unite when they have similarities and most great leaders of the past have tried to use the factor of race to unite the people. Genghis Khan has tried to unite the Mongol and Hitler has tried to unite the German. These great leaders try to achieve unity using race as the factor of unity. They unite their race by inculcating in their heart the same desire. They inculcate the desire to become great people by conquering other people and to amass their wealth. Without having unity of purpose people cannot be united unless they have the same desire or goal .Genghis Khan and Hitler inculcate in the heart of their people the same desire to become the Great people that conquer and control others. In order to unite the people, the leaders try to make the people to have the same goal or desire .The easiest desire to inculcate is the desire to have power and wealth. However this desire is short lived and once this desire vanishes the strength of unity fades away. Genghis Khan and Hitler can only unite their people and become conqueror for a very short period of time. The empire that they have set...

One Malaysia

...One Malaysia The first thing that comes across my mind when I heard about 1Malaysia is it must be a new political agenda conducted by the government to win people‟s heart. It seems to me that it is a trend for every prime minister to create a vision or measure once they are appointed. I don‟ quite sure about the previous prime minister but I remember Tun Mahathir Muhammad came up with a vision that is Vision 2020. Later, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi came up with Islam Hadhari. Now, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced to achieve 1 Malaysia. As it appears to be sort of political measures, many people think that it is nothing much but a political plan created by the prime ministers so that they have an issue to talk about throughout the years as a prime minister. This is my opinion about one Malaysia. Just like Islam Hadhari that no longer being concerned by people, the same thing might happen to 1Malaysia. Therefore, in this essay, I would like to talk about the success and failures of three measures taken by government to fulfill the objective of realizing the concept of 1 Malaysia. The first thing I would like to talk about is the measures taken to avoid racial polarization in education. There are three different types of school in this country; vernacular school, national school and vision school. The issue that has long been debated is about the relevance of vernacular school. in the article Malaysian vernacular schools to continue to beapart of the education......

...Mohamad Salleh Abstracts Upon ascending to Malaysia’s highest public office on April 2009, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Razak has made waves to all corners of the nation with the introduction of 1Malaysia concept. The concept evolves around culture of excellence, perseverance, acceptance, education, integrity, meritocracy, humility and loyalty. It also encompases NKRAs on six major issues. Since independent, national unity has been made top priority – unity in education, culture, socio-economy, political, regional, etc. 1Malaysia seeks to improve the relations of all Malaysians, regardless of racial, religious or cultural backgrounds. There are certain major concerns that need to be addressed in order to seriously engage in 1Malaysia concept. Without correcting them, all efforts will be in vain. 1Malaysia concept caters the needs of all sector of the plural society and to ensure equal distribution of wealth between racial groups, between states and federal. Integrity on the part of the government and the public sector is one matter. The introduction of NKRAs and KPIs is a laudable move. The managing of all spectrums of unity (not just racial) is to be given proper thinking. In order to move Malaysia towards a better society, identity and future hence unity and integration should promote co-operation between race, beliefs and region as one Malaysia, not as Sarawakian or Sabahan. The trust and aspiration of the people that 1Malaysia will bring......

...Gollywhopper's Eggs Well now, when old Johnson came to town, I knew there'd be trouble. That Yankee Peddler was a scoundrel if ever I saw one. But I was laid up with my rheumatism when he arrived, so I couldn't do anything about it. My neighbors often came to visit with me, since I was a poor widow-woman. (Metaphorically speaking. I was actually the richest woman in town, since my late husband had made a fortune in shipping.) Mistress Sarah Smith came to see me two days after Peddler Johnson appeared with his wares. She was bubbling over with the news. She had, just that morning, bought two of the very rare Gollywhopper Eggs from Peddler Johnson, for the outrageous price of five dollars a-piece. I was flabbergasted. "What in tarnation is a Gollywhopper?" I demanded irritably, trying to sit up in my chair. My rheumatism gave me a painful stab and I settled back against the cushions. Mistress Smith smiled at me kindly, obviously pitying my ignorance. "A Gollywhopper is a rare sort of eating bird, like a gigantic chicken, found only on a tiny island in the West Indies called TheresOneBornEveryMinute," she explained. "Fortunately, Peddler Johnson saved the life of the chief of the island and was awarded with one full setting of eggs from this priceless bird. Everyone in town is buying eggs as fast as Johnson can sell them. I came to see if you wanted me to buy some for you. Of course, Peddler Johnson could not guarantee that my eggs will hatch out to be a...

Disneyland Expansion

...1.0 Two factors contributed to EuroDisney’s poor performance 2.1 Failure in realizing the local culture. There are a few factors that contribute on the failure to perform for EuroDisney on its first year operation. The first reason is because they fail to realize the local culture there is in France and instead of adapting to the foreign culture, the American company tries to adopt their American culture towards the business; which in this case lead them to disastrous results. One of the contradicting examples is that French people have their own adored cartoon characters. These cartoon characters also have their own theme park that is near to where EuroDisney is located. Thus, it is a challenge for EuroDisney to compete with what have been French’s favorite casts. Other than that, the operation of EuroDisney that does not allow the selling of wine which counters the culture of French whereby they are the world’s biggest wine consumers also lead them to poor performance. The culture of having “the clean-shaven, neat and tidy look” from the American culture is also being adapted to the park employees where the value may not be shared with the European’s. Besides that, the flexibility of the company to fire any of the employees who don’t follow the rules is also limited as the worker’s rights are very strictly protected by the French law. 2.2 Events that took place during the same year. Other than the failure of realizing the local culture in......
