...On-Line Distance Learning and Its Impact on the Post-Secondary Education System On-Line Distance Learning and Its Impact on the Post-Secondary Education System The $2.6-billion online education market provides an alternative to the campus classroom to meet the educational needs of a growing population of students. With the influx of newly developed online education programs from inside and outside the industry, the market flood has left many institutions scrambling to jump aboard in fear of being left behind. The institutions that will succeed must develop sufficient marketing strategies to differentiate through brand naming and market niches. Proper research and development with careful consideration to the network infrastructure and cost feasibility of programs is necessary. While the opportunities and potential payoffs of online education are endless, they may come at a heavy price for some unprepared institutions venturing into the market if they do not meet the challenges of cost feasibility, technology, market retention, and quality control. Distance-learning programs should be used to compliment and enhance the educational experience rather than damage it or lessen its credibility and benefits. The Internet age has significantly reshaped the higher education industry technological advancements in the distance-learning methodology. Ethics in Distance Education

...Running Head: ETHICS IN DISTANCE EDUCATION Ethics in Distance Education Anna Amen Strayer University   Ethics in Distance Education In today’s world, technology has had a major impact in allowing students to attend college courses over the internet. Distance Education, or Distance learning, is a form of education where the professor and student are separated by distance. This has become a very popular way of learning for students to either start or continue their education. With the use of computers, students are able to communicate over the internet with their professor over discussion boards, video conferencing, and chat rooms. Students have gained a huge interest in distance education since they are able to use these forms of communication through a computer instead of attending a traditional classroom. Distance education is mainly preferred by students because it is flexible, convenient and the variety and availability of classes offered. Students are able to attend classes online on their own time allowing them to work around school and family obligations. It also allows them to attend classes anywhere they are located as to having to be on campus to take classes. The classes that are not available on campus are available online along with many other classes a student can participate in. By having these types of advantages, it is no wonder how distance education is becoming increasingly popular among students and people who want to go back to......

More and more people choose online shopping and online chat, things like that. The application of network is a challenge to traditional life. The same situation occurs in the aspect of the education. Online learning is a new way for people to get knowledge. Educators debate whether distance learning is better than face to face teaching. This essay will argue that online learning will replace face to face teaching because online learning gives students more flexibility and contains a great number of resource and better experiences. Leading the Distance Learning in Uae

...Introduction “Distance learning” is a field of education that focuses on teaching methods and technology with the aim of delivering teaching when the source of information and the learners are separated by time and distance, or both. The development of computers and the internet have made distance learning distribution easier and faster and have given rise to the “virtual university”, the entire educational offerings of which are conducted online. It is yet very important to understand: Why educational institutions might embrace distance learning? 1) Expanding access: distance education can assist in meeting the demand for education and training demand from the general populace and businesses, especially because it offers the possibility of a flexibility to accommodate the many time-constraints imposed by personal responsibilities and commitments. 2) Alleviate capacity constraints: being conducted off-site, the system reduces the demand on institutional infrastructure. 3) Making money from emerging markets: due to the increasing acceptance from the population of the value of lifelong learning, beyond the normal schooling age, the institutions can benefit financially from this by adopting distance education. 4) Catalyst for institutional transformation: the competitive modern marketplace demands rapid change and innovation, for which distance education programs can act as a catalyst. Xxxhistory of Online Education

...Early Form of distance Education The very basic form of online education or distance education was originated by the idea of “correspondence method”, dated back to March 20th, 1728 when Caleb Phillipps posted “Teacher of the New Method of Short Hand” in an advertisement on the Boston Gazette, conveying that any person in the country who desire to learn could have several lessons sent to them weekly as perfectly instructed as in Boston. The programs were often in non-traditional or niche programs. Since correspondence degrees had limited methods of ensuring quality or guaranteeing that a student actually completed an appropriate level of study, they have always been regarded rather lightly. Nevertheless they persisted and provided many students with an education that would otherwise have been unavailable. It was a way to respond to institutional inequalities by reaching out to a more diverse group of students. In 1837, Issac Pitman, a qualified teacher and taught at a private school he founded in Wotton Under Edge - The British School, developed the well-known system known as “Pitman shorthand”. “Pitman Short” system relied on the development of postal services in 19th century. Following the invention of Pitman Method, the first institutional-supported distance education was known to be the first to establish an External Program in 1858, including Post graduate, Undergraduate and Diploma Degrees. In the United States, William Rainey Harper, president of the University of......

...September 1, 2013 DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ONLINE CLASSES AND DISTANCE LEARNING Distant learning typically involves you sitting in a classroom while an instructor, via satellite, instructs you’re class or vice versa. You can see them, they can see you. Many online learning is typically for college, you may meet once or twice, but the learning is done through an online server. Usually, you have a book to read, projects to submit electronically and quizzes online to take. So, in my paragraphs, I will describe to you the differences between online classes and distance learning. Honestly, distance learning for me is more accurate than online learning, because you can learn more in a classroom setting. I like to be in a classroom setting because, an instructor can teach you more, and actually break down the work for you step by step. Also, if you need additional help, a teacher is actually there to help you with the work. On the other hand, online classes are actually convent for some people that work. You can do it anywhere, anytime, as long as it is done by the due date. My disadvantage of online learning is that, if I need help with any project, I can’t actually get in touch with my teacher right then. I would have to wait until the teacher contact me. In my conclusion, I would prefer distance learning over online learning. But, for right now, I would have to take online classes due to my own schedule. I like that online classes give me the flexibility to do my homework...
