Throughout the development of education, a popular choice has come into existence that seems to be a choice among many individuals seeking to advance their education. That choice is online schooling. The other choice millions of students choose is to go to a traditional college. There are some differences in the two types of schooling, yet they offer the same learning criteria. Students have to consider the pros and cons of each and decide which school setting is best for them. Whether pursuing an online or traditional education, students can be sure they are receiving the same education. Online schooling is when a student sits in front of a computer and is taught through internet interaction. The interaction is made through an online thread where students can ask questions to the professor and have conversations with other students. There are also some online schools that have lectures given by the Professors through live videos. You are able to ask the Professor questions through a live online chat. There might also be 1 or 2 classes where you might have to go to a traditional classroom, or do some hands on field work for your degree. A traditional setting classroom is when students go to a College or University where they sit in a classroom with other students, have face to face interactions, and learn with a Professor teaching at the head of the classroom. Both settings provide the same education the students are searching striving to achieve. Most students believed they would not get the best education if they chose to go to an online college. The reality is, there is no difference between getting an online education and getting an education in a traditional setting. Both settings offer the same education but in a different way. Most students chose to get their education in an online setting because they have more freedom range to get their school work...

Online vs. Traditional Schooling

...Online Vs. Traditional Schooling Sarah Ann Weinkertz COM/170 7/17/2014 Korijna Valenti There is a long standing debate whether online or traditional schooling is more effective. What people do not realize is that online and traditional schooling are actually quite similar once you look at the material, curriculum, and the instructors teaching the classes. The instructors for online and traditional classes teach the same curriculum, using different techniques to give the students the information that they need. Online and traditional classes do of course have their differences such as the environment the students are working in, the time they get to do everything they need to, the communication between the students with the teachers, and financial obligations. Online schools follow the same curriculum as traditional schools do, providing the students just as respectable an education as a traditional school's education. Communication between students and instructors tends to differ between online schooling and tradition schooling. When someone is attending school online they have to realize that the communication will be limited; the professor may not be online or available when the student is actually needing the help. This is similar to traditional school, varying in that connecting with an instructor is through online contact in comparison to the possibility of an in-person meeting that is typically available......

Traditional Education vs. Online Education

...Online Education vs. Traditional Education Online Education vs. Traditional Education There are different ways to access higher education, either through online education or traditional education. For centuries, online education could not compare to traditional education. Today, online education competes with traditional education in many ways. Though online education has become very popular, how does one know which is best for him or her? Identifying the pros and cons through flexibility, communication, interaction, skills development, and affordability will help the student decide the best option. Although online education seems to be taking over the traditional means of education, both are great options in different ways. The bottom line is that the world is becoming technologically smart. For one juggling home, school, and a job, it can be difficult commuting to class every day. Online education eliminates the need to attend class. Online courses allow the student to access coursework from an Internet site. Motivated, responsible, independent learners can work at their own pace, whenever is suitable for them. This allows the flexibility that a traditional classroom setting does not provide. However, one who struggles to be self-motivated may fall quickly behind. In a traditional classroom setting the student has to attend class on campus. Traditional education is for a learner who needs more lecturing to understand and also needs to be able to ask questions as he...

...schools, and home schooling their children. Depends on what the parents choose is best for their children. Since private schools and public schools fall under the category with traditional schooling, lets compare and contrast traditional schooling vs. home schooling. The two are both types of schools. The student can earn a diploma with either way of schooling program. Both of the ways of schooling have the same main courses needed to graduate.Something that might be different is how many credits are needed to graduate. Most are 21 credits with four credits from the main classes like science, English, history, and math. Also a half credit from gym class. For some home school students getting that grade is hard. They might need to go to a park and play basketball or find something to do outside. Some parents don’t want to hire a teacher so they enroll their kids in the online home schooling. The two types of schooling ways also let the student progress through the course. For example if you pass your first year of regular science you have the option to further into biology, chemistry, geology, and psychics. Both ways of schooling offer different classes you can take like computer classes, second languages, art class, Hom-each,accounting, and etc. A major difference is the pace of learning. Home schooled kids can learn at their own pace. This is a major help to those kids that are slower at learning or have problems in a certain class. While kids in traditional schools......

The Art of Learning Online Versus on-Campus

...The Art of Learning Online versus On-Campus Kathryn Berry Everest University ENC1101-48 In my essay I will discuss the differences in what is expected of a student enrolled in an online course and a traditional student, how every person learns in a different way, and therefore would more actively learn in a certain environment, finances, schedule, and I will briefly discuss the job market for graduates. For me, online learning is an easier way for me to accomplish my educational goals because of my personal obligations. There are many aspects to consider when comparing on-campus learning and online learning. According to a paper entitled “Traditional vs. Online Degrees,” “To compare an online student to a traditional student is like trying to compare apples and oranges” (Sakurai, 2002) . A traditional student has a teacher in front of him/her lecturing, answering questions, and encouraging him/her. An online student receives weekly assignments. Included, are the literature, PowerPoint presentations, and or videos about what they are learning, then a list of homework to get done. In order for online students to get help, they have to write an email or call their instructor on the one day they are available. Because of these differences, it seems that online education would be more difficult, but that is not always the case. A student who has a hard time focusing on homework would not be well suited for an online education because all of the work is done at home.......

Compare and Contrast Paper

...Online Schools vs. Traditional Schools The popularity of online schools has greatly increased in popularity (perc-schwabfdn.org). The majority of the population has not been introduced to it yet. According to I. Elaine Allen and Jeff Seaman, over 5.1 percent of college students are enrolled in at least one online course (2). An online education will benefit anyone who is open to the idea of not actually being in the presence of the “normal” or traditional real life classroom setting that we are all so used to, mainly to low income families (Vander Ark). Traditional schools differ from online schools in many ways. Nonetheless, they have many similarities at the same time. While people have the misconceptions of what an online school offers, other people are aware of the many entities that these schools offer such as other students, classrooms, teachers and degrees. We all know what a traditional school looks like; we have all been to one at one point whether it has been high school or even a college campus. There is a main office, lockers, classrooms, a cafeteria, a parking lot and a library. Additionally, desks and white or chalk boards are found in these classrooms. Teachers are always helpful; they have “office hours” where a student can get extra help with the subject they are struggling with. The classes which are offered by the college are only accessible during certain hours of the day. Their definition of night classes is anytime from five in the evening to......

Home Schooling vs Traditional Schooling

...Tinita Johnson Professor: Belles Com/155 June 14, 2012 Home Schooling vs. Traditional Schooling In today’s changing society, parents may often ponder over the best choice for their children’s educational needs. Today’s technological age provides choices for parents regarding the type of school that their children will attend. They have the choice of sending their children to traditional school or teaching them at home, commonly referred to as home schooling, which is often conducted by use of a personal computer in the home. Home schooling provides a more direct approach of educating today’s youth when compared to public schools. Alternatively, public school offers children a greater chance of enhancing their social development and skills. There are many advantages of parent’s home schooling their children. These advantages include individual bonding time with the children, security of knowing that their children are learning, and more access to monitoring their children’s academic progress. Another added benefit of schooling involves modification of the curriculum to accommodate each student’s ability. Within the home school curriculum, a parent has the freedom to filter out subjects that they do not want their children to learn. According to (Kunzman) there has been an increase of 74% in homeschool attendance between the years of 1999 to 2007. It was also noted that this growth is twelve times that of public school attendance. Some disadvantage of......

There are many colleges throughout the United States that offer not only your traditional MBA degree but also online MBA degrees. The first MBA degree offered online began in 2002. (Cao, Yingxia, 2011) I have had the opportunity to experience how classes are delivered online and face to face in a classroom. They both have their pros and cons. From my experiences and the lifestyle that I live I have found the online environment better route. But for others that may not be the way you want to obtain your education. You might have a family and are working full time and your job is requiring to obtain further education. Maybe you are a high school graduate wanting to continue your education. Traditional School vs Online School

...Cristina Batista COM/1455 University studies and Communication I Sheri Lindquist Traditional School VS. Online School The difference between going to school online and traditional school can vary; they are either good or bad differences. From socialization, commute, convenience and family, it can have an impact on a person; the impact can be good or bad. Socialization plays a huge role in a persons’ life especially while attending school. While going to traditional school, a person is more likely to get the benefit of having friends. Online school can prevent a person from having a social life, because all classmates can be in any part of the world. I believe that depression plays a huge part on people that do not have daily contact with others. The more contact with people the more a person evolves to be a better “people” person. In class a student would have the ability to get thorough help by teacher, and online the only thing a student can do is e-mail or call. As for myself, I have to look at someone, in order to understand what I am having trouble understanding. Many people who go online and do not understand many people who do not understand might go silent and fail. No matter the communication, student must always speak up. The thought about success, helps me push a lot, even when I feel like quitting. Fellow class mates can be a help because they are experiencing the same thing, specially if the students are local. The trust between students that we know can...

Onsiderations in Choosing Between an Online and Traditional Education

...Considerations in Choosing Between an Online and Traditional Education Leslie De La Rosa COM/155 University Composition and Communication 1 Frances Lord September 1, 2012 Considerations in Choosing Between an Online and Traditional Education In today’s technological age, there are many choices for Americans of all ages to attend college. A student may choose to attend a traditional college or to continue their education through one of the many online programs available. Both online and traditional educations offer a quality education to students, but differ in financial needs, scheduling flexibility, learning styles and career choice. Any person looking to further their education needs to do extensive research to determine which course is right for them. The first consideration to be taken into account is financial needs. Most colleges offer their students help in finding financial aid. This includes loans and grants to cover tuition costs. Loans have to be repaid after graduation, whereas grants do not have to be repaid. Most colleges will also provide information on scholarships for students. The yearly cost to attend a traditional university is $7084.00 for tuition, $9020.00 for room and board, and $992.00 for books. This is a total of $17,096.00 per year and does not include extra fees such as lab fees (Texas A & M Corpus Christi). This price also varies by university. The highest ranked private universities can cost up to $250,000 for a four year......

Home School vs Public School

...Home School vs Public Education Most Americans do not home-school their children. However, those who do, certainly have good reasons. There are advocates on both sides of this educational issue, it is important to understand why some parents choose to home-school their children. Although both can provide a quality education to its students, a student can learn in a social environment therefore leading to his/her overall development. One of the many reasons that home school parents feel passionate about home schooling is their religious beliefs. Since religion is no longer permitted in the public school system, many home-school parents feel that their children have been short-changed in this area. It is their wish to raise their children in an environment that not only allows religion but also embraces it. Having deep religion beliefs, parents who home-school for religious reasons are said to be very passionate people. It is this passion that feeds their children’s educational needs. With the parent in charge, home-schooling can be based solely on religious activities if the parent so chooses. It is also this passion that will allow the parents to teach their children to the best of their abilities. Home-schooling allows the parent to be in charge. Another reason the public school system appears to have allowed a stereotype to be attached to home-schooled children is socialization. This stereotype suggests that home-schooled children are confined rather than social. In......

Andragogy vs Pedagogy

...Andragogy vs Pedagogy Andragogy vs Pedagogy Today, there are many ways to obtain an education. Before, students obtained their education through sitting in a classroom in schools, colleges or universities. Now, obtaining ones education may be done by home schooling and online classes. The changes in the education system have led to the development of many teaching methods. Two major and common methods of teaching are andragogy and pedagogy. The purpose of this paper is to compare and contrast andragogy and pedagogy. “Andragogy is the process of engaging adult learners in the structure of the learning experience” (Conlan, Grabowski, & Smith. 2013). In simple words, it is the art and science of helping adults learn. This learning experience consists of different methods and strategies to assist adult humans in obtaining their education. Pedagogy is the connection of the teaching by the teacher, to the learning of a child student (Gehring, 2010). Thus, pedagogy literally means the art and science of teaching children. This is the most dominant form of teaching and referred to as the traditional, teacher-directed approach. “Andragogy is a newer word that was coined in the 1800s by Alexander Knapp, a German educator, and popularized in the 1960s by Malcolm Knowles, an American educator whose focus was on adult education” (Findsen, 2010). It fell into disuse and didn’t reappear until......
