Open Bariatric Imaging
Diagnostic imaging gives MRI Specialists an accurate representation of what is happening inside a patient’s body. Once complete, the MRI Center gives the patient’s physician a report detailing the results of the scan. These results help a physician determine which treatment is best suited for the injury or condition. A traditional MRI machine is not designed properly for a bariatric patient.
Because there are numerous medical conditions and ailments that cannot be accurately diagnosed without the use of state-of-the-art equipment like Open Bariatric Imaging machines, when a physician orders a Magnetic Resonance Scan for a bariatric patient and/or a patient who becomes anxious in tight spaces (claustrophobia), finding a facility with an MRI scanner designed for these patients is essential.

During the scan, you will lie on a table. You will most likely lie on your back. In order to help you remain still during the procedure, your chest, head and arms may be held with straps. The table slides into the space containing the magnet. When a traditional MRI machine is used, the patient is encompassed by the machine; however, an Open Bariatric Imaging machine has a larger opening and does not encompass the entire body.
Once inside the scanner, you need to remain completely still. You will hear snapping and tapping while the machine uses magnets and radio waves to create the detailed images.
