Abstract - This paper presents a technical overview of some of the underlying principles of the modern telecommunication technology and the evolution of microwave radio, satellite systems and various optical fiber based infrastructures. Based on the proven superiority of fiber optics combined with the shortfalls of and the complexities faced by the existing satellite systems due to particularly unfavorable regional climatic conditions in and around Bangladesh, the need to link that country to a global submarine optical fiber telecommunication system as the backbone of choice for bulk information transport is underscored. In addition, novel ways of realizing cost effective land based long haul fiber-optic communications networks which use existing electric power lines to suspend optical fiber cables instead of resorting to expensive trenching techniques for cable laying is cited as a viable option given that there are practical examples in both developed and developing countries. Various aspects of optical fiber based wide area and metropolitan area networks such as Optical Gigabit Ethernet are also considered in the context of a mega-city like Dhaka and other highly populated areas. Finally, the economic benefits of having a reliable telecommunication infrastructure is discussed.[1]

the large number of rivers in Bangladesh makes it particularly prone to becoming water logged during the rainy seasons.

... BANGLADESH TELEGRAPH & TELEPHONE BOARD Chairman's Message Advances in telecommunication & information technology (ICT) have done more than anything else to drive the last decade's economic boom and the integration of markets around the planet. Since telecommunications play an important role in the development of ICT as well as socio-economic condition of a country, development of telecommunication is essential. Bangladesh T & T Board (BTTB), the only public sector telephone service provider, is doing the best with its limited resources to provide most advanced telecommunication services to its valuable subscribers. BTTB has a firm policy to digitalize the complete network as soon as possible. Digitalization of BTTB network started back in the year 1983 and over the past few years, the installation of digital equipment has increased considerably. In the mean time, all the district headquarters & 377 upazilla's have been equipped with digital exchanges. Remaining upazillas will have digital exchange very soon. In the age of information technology (IT), a robust and efficient national transmission system is required to support telecommunication and data communications, as well as the IT activities of a country. With this end in view BTT B is gradually installing and expanding Optical Fiber network and SDH microwave links throughout the country. Initiative has been taken to install optical fibre based access network. BTTB...

Among them four STM-64 are NORTEL-6500 company and one is KT company. DWDM scheme is used in SDH-MUX system which gives the output at 10 GB (Highest output is 100GB). Everyone have the particular wavelength with different color. Then these all wavelength are making together combine. So at last four pair cable are out from every MUX in NORTEL. The BTCL rent one extra cable from the PGC for protection of cable if any fault is creating. In this submarine connection CB4 is use which is also use by 14 countries. (AFP/File) DHAKA (AFP) –  Output from Bangladesh's accident-prone garment sector increased in June, data showed Tuesday, with demand from foreign retailers still growing despite the country's factory disaster in April. At least 1,129 people were killed when the Rana Plaza factory complex collapsed outside the capital Dhaka in April, sparking demonstrations against Western brands and prompting some retailers to threaten to cancel orders. Government data released on Tuesday showed that the country's total exports -- 80 percent of which come from the garment sector -- soared by 16 percent year-on-year in June to $2.7 billion, following an increase of 15 percent in May.
