...ORGANIZATON BEHAVIOR and DEVELOPMENT By: Disha Patel A graduate paper submitted In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Degree of Masters of Science in Accountancy COLLEGE OF BUSINESS BENEDICTINE UNIVERSITY Lisle, Illinois USA November 18, 2013 Organization Behavior and Development has been a major topic in every business around the world. It is how every organization is built. The environment in an organization is created by organizational culture, behavior, diversity, and communication. The culture in an organization guides the actions of all the employees through shared values and beliefs. Diversity is the differences in race, gender, ethnicity, and how well it is received in the organization. Additionally, communication is also important, if there is an absence of communication it creates barrier between employees, hindering creativity, and disrupting the work environment. The organization that I had worked for in the past is a great example of an organization behavior gone wrong. It is 6:00 AM on Monday my alarm rings, I turn it off and try going back to sleep. When it dawns on me, I am starting my new job today. I get up quickly and get ready to head out. I am so excited and nervous at the same time that I am shaking. It is five minutes before 8:00 AM. I park my car, and head through the employee entrance....

Organization Behavior

...The purpose of this report is to understand the demographics and level and types of diversity of the workforce in the author’s organization. After which identify and describe the diversity management strategy that the organization employs, with the aims to eliminate issues and challenges of a diverse workforce and improve overall performance of the organization. 2. Demographic and Diversity of the workforce Singapore’s workforce is naturally diverse due to the multi-racial society. The changing demographic profile, the presence of more women and elderly in the workplace and globalization has also increased the workforce diversity. In almost every organization, the employees are from different backgrounds, age, gender, nationalities and religions. Robbins and Judge (2014) argued that it is these differences of each employee that framed the behavior and culture of each organization. According to Robbins and Judge (2014), there are typically two types of diversities: surface-level diversity and deep-level diversity. Surface-level diversity is the demographic and biographical characteristics differences which can be recognized easily. However, deep-level diversity is the differences in characteristics such as personality and value. These characteristics can only be recognized through interactions with one another, thus takes longer time to identify the differences. For instance, author’s company is a distributor for IT products and provides...

Behaviors in Organizations

...In organizations there are behaviors that can be productive and also counterproductive to the organization. Productive behavior can be described or defined as the behaviors of an employee that positively contributes to the goals and objectives of their organization. Counterproductive behavior is basically the opposite and can be defined or described as an employee’s behavior which that is against the goals and objectives of their organization. There are plenty of ways one can be productive or counterproductive to their organization and I will write about a few of them for each. There are different ways that productive behavior can have an impact on job performance. When an employee is proficient in his or her job specific tasks it helps the overall productivity of the organization tremendously because it saves time and money from needing more people working on a certain task or tasks that a proficient person can be able to handle themselves. It also helps to prevent mistakes that could cost the company money to fix. Even more beneficial is when an employee of this proficiency is also cross trained in their non job specific tasks or those tasks that their coworkers do. This is very important in my daily job because when a coworker of mine is sick, has an emergency, or just takes some time off for vacation I can pick up where they left off while they are gone....

Organization Behavior

...1) Explain James behavior in terms of the frustration model? According to the case, James is undergoing a difficult stage at work. Comparing James position with the frustration model, it seems he is at the fixation stage followed by the withdrawal of the model. At this stage, person feels apathetic or has considered himself retired at the job. They experience such situation because they are frustrated, not because they have no motivation. But they have been blocked by dead-end jobs, high degrees of job specialization, or supervisors who put up barriers. The fixation reaction of James may be used to explain irrational bureaucratic behavior. The rules become the ends in themselves, and the frustrated employee pathetically adapt to the barriers. Behavioral change of James would never let him achieve motivated goals on the job, hence he tries to seek fulfillment outside the job. These reactions of James may cost organization a great deal because of his frustrating and apathetic behavior. 2) Cite a specific example of role conflict in this case? People living in a society assume a succession of roles throughout their life. Typical sequences of roles in James case are a father, a husband and a regular clerk in a manufacturing company. According to the case, James found himself in a low-paying dead-end assembly line job with a large manufacturing company. He does not have any motivation or excitement to work for the company....

Organization Behavior

...Organizational Behavior (OB) is the study and application of knowledge about how people, individuals, and groups act in organizations. It does this by taking a system approach. That is, it interprets people-organization relationships in terms of the whole person, whole group, whole organization, and whole social system. Its purpose is to build better relationships by achieving human objectives, organizational objectives, and social objectives. As you can see from the definition above, organizational behavior encompasses a wide range of topics, such as human behavior, change, leadership, teams, etc. Success isn’t  a destination it’s a process.   And the margin between successes is often  small.  Ob is all about  studying  the principles of defining  nd achieving success in your organization and life. Impact of ob Organizational behavior is an aspect of doing business within large companies that many executives have overlooked. This organizational behavior impacts every nook and cranny of a company. Thinking about the organizational behavior and how people act within a company can foster new ways of managing people that can have longer-term impacts on profitability. For example, unionized work forces may have a more negative environment then non-union work environments due to the natural adversarial relationships between company management and union officials....
