Organizational behavior is very important to company’s since the behavior of the company reflects on the company’s performance. Organizational behavior to a company can also be called the companies ethics, which allows individuals to understand what ethics are being held by the company through organizational culture, behavior, diversity and the organizations communication styles. Organizational culture play a major role in an organization, it is considered the foundation, format and beliefs of the organization. A true definition of organizational culture is a set of beliefs, values, and personalities that represent the unique character of an organization. An attributes that contribute to organizational culture and is very important is respect in the organization no matter race. Respect is what allows people to communicate; respect within each other allows growth and shared knowledge. Employee pride is also a great attribute for a company to maintain, the higher employee morale is the more productivity there is within the company and its employees. A company the shows great company morale is McDonald’s employees. McDonald’s emphasis to its employees to always have a smile, greet customers and have an inviting attitude to want the consumer to come back. McDonald’s ensures that the company is allowing the employees to understand the pride of working at McDonald’s. Organizational culture cannot be obtained unless there is an understanding of organizational behavior. Organizational behavior is the behavior between employees and the organization in the workplace. On organization goal is to make sure all employees understand the correct behavior and implement the behavior on a daily biases. Company’s set out rewards and incentives to help maintain the company’s behavior as a positive behavior. The company has positive and negative reinforcements in place so that employees can understand the right behavior that is wanted within the company.
Companies may use reinforcement schedules to let employees know that their behavior with the organization is always being watched. For example 24 Hour Fitness hires sales associates to sell memberships which is considered an variable – ratio reinforcement reward given at an variable amount of output which can be shown as achieving sales goals and quotas to show the company the high performance that was achieved. The high performance would then be rewarded through commission sales. Another example of positive reinforcement is a fixed interval reinforcement which reward is given at fixed time intervals such as a paycheck. If an employee does their work the get paid if they don’t do their work correctly they get fired without pay. Diversity within a company allows the company to thrive and influence prospective employees to thrive. Diversity can be defined by different types of people in a group or an organization. Diversity can also consist of characteristics such as religion, sexual orientation, gender and age. Most companies publicize when there are hiring and to their employees that they are an equal opportunity employer who do not discriminate on race, age, gender, religion and sexual preference. Even though it is important to have diversity in a company not all companies do it very well, an example would be the ongoing 2001 law suit against Wal-mart for gender discrimination. Wal-Mart has been in several law suits where woman have claimed that they were paid less than males that did the same job as they did. Lawsuits like this can destroy organizational behavior and culture that has been maintained. It can take only one thing to bring down and organization and can also cause consumers not to want to but from the company. This is where communication comes into play with organizational culture. Communication is very crucial because it allows information, conversations, policies and procedures to be exchanged from the company to the employee and vice a versa. Communication allows the employees and organization to be on the same page to lay out rules, ideas and even positive complements to the employees. Organizational culture needs to be maintained at all levels all the time. Communication will allow the company to teach and influence employees to see what exceptional behavior the company wants. It is important to maintain the behavior because there will always be new behaviors that need to be implemented or taken away to achieve a better organizational culture.
