What exactly is an organization structure? It’s the usual hierarchical order of lines of authority, connections, rights and duties of an organization. The organizational structure depends how the roles, power and responsibilities are allocated, controlled and coordinated and how information flows between the different levels of management. Now that I’ve given a basic description on an organization structure, let’s move towards my report in which I chose to identify and explain similarities and differences between the two most known organizations worldwide; Yahoo and Google. Why not Twitter or Facebook or any other organization? Why would I choose Google and Yahoo? Well, as most of us might already know, Yahoo and Google are one of the two top rated websites on the internet and computer software industry! In addition; both organizations have a quite interesting continued history of rivalry.

Google Inc has received a lot of attention and praise for its remarkable organizational culture, which is designed to support both devotion and creativeness. Google has created many important products through this emphasis on modernization, such as the Google search engine, Google Maps and the Google Chrome Web browser. The company is now much bigger than it was when the organizational culture first developed, forcing some changes to the original model. However, Google is one of the organizations to appeal to probable employees, and is changing the traditional organizational structure. According to Fortune magazine, Google is considered one of the top five best places to work and has been ranked so for five consecutive years. The question is what exactly makes this organization so dissimilar from others and why are employees so desperate to be hired by this organization?.Google uses a cross-functional organizational structure combined with a one of a kind philosophy. Their cross-functional organizational structure is more of a team approach to management and is structured horizontally. According to Google.com (http://www.google.com/intl/en/corporate/), they purposively preserve a small-company feel, believing every employee is a hands-on provider and everyone is an equally important part of Google’s achievements. Google’s benefits package also plays a main part in attracting employees. Google states that, from employee retirement funds to their free lunch and dinner program, they make every effort to offer customizable programs that go well with the needs of each of their employees. Knowing all these facts, what more could an employee possibly want? Therefore, Google has a more relaxed working environment than other vertically structured organizations.
