Michelle Obama said that “ The only way you will succeed is by failing”. As a teenager, I have failed so many times in life because I didn’t know the value of life and how to overcome my failures. At times, I feel worthless and uncared for because my dad tend to be a very strict parent, but I start to realize that every disaster can be fatal, but you can turn a disaster into a good direction. Therefore, I had to invest a substantial amount of time into researching and understand that the creator who created me in his own image put me on this earth because I am valuable and I am not going to let my past affect my future. I learn to move forward and don’t look back on my past because I am starting a new beginning in my life. Since neither of my parents attended college, I took the time to investigate and understand every aspect of the college application process. After realizing how college students end up in billions of debts and college tuition are tremendously high. Overcoming Obstacles That Changed My Life

...Whenever I need to convince my mother or sister of my superior intellect I have one story I always tell as it happens to be one of the most memorable obstacles I have ever overcome. The obstacle was one that faced the entire family and I was the one who saved the day in the end. As with many obstacles, it was something that needed to be done but seemed impossible. For my family it was removing an old, broken, and pretty disgusting dryer from our new home. Removing a dryer does not sound like much of a challenge but this dryer was huge, I was a small nine year old girl, with my mother not much larger than I. To make it worse, the fact that the house was built in the 1800s meant that the doorways were quite narrow. In addition to skinny door...

The Osage Firebird Quote Analysis

...Overcoming obstacles and barriers is a difficult thing to do. In ‘The Osage Firebird” and “A Life Painting Animals” it talks about two women who overcome tough barriers to gain and achieve success. They both tell how they never got discouraged nom matter how many times they we told “No” or “You will never make it”. Although, I believe the story “The Osage Firebird” tells more information about overcoming barriers and difficulties. “The Osage Firebird” is a story of a girl named Betty Marie Tallcheif who overcame many obstacles to become a great ballerina. It shows the purpose more in this passage because she goes through many things that most people with a fixed mindset would be put-down about, but she never got discouraged so she kept going....

Student Adversity

...affinity towards overcoming challenges and difficult adversity. Throughout life, we adapt to challenges and master the ability to surmount obstacles. Despite the difficulties we experience, the process of overcoming complications allows us to become more knowledgeable on the task at hand. However, it is not just the conquering of adversity that is beneficial, but the adversity itself has positive effects on the challenged. Adversity allows an individual to develop a sense of discipline, as well as encouraging individuals to exercise their mind to confront a problem or conflict. Specifically, students who encounter hardships are more inclined to try harder, which promotes competition within the school. Although adversity may be beneficial towards some students, challenges can be detrimental for students who lack confidence. For instance, some students develop a mentality of despair; they believe that if one has to work hard, then the person does not have the natural ability for the assignment. Based on the effects of adversity aforementioned, I believe that students can both benefit from the obstacles faced in school with the proper mentality or the effects could be hindering. Students face adversity every day, regardless of how transparent the obstacle may be; some problems may not be as evident as others. According to Carol S. Dweck, author of Brainology, all students face adversities throughout their high-school career, specifically, the challenge of overcoming a fixed mindset...

Writing Prompt

...Overcoming Obstacles “The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something.” Were given a chance to succeed and reach our long-term goals. “Brick walls” is a symbolic meaning of overcoming every obstacle we cross is life. Were all here to have the ability to do whatever we want with our lives. The truth is that everyone struggles in their everyday life in one way or another. It’s about staying positive and making the best of what you have. Becoming a student at EPCC is a wonderful and exciting way to improve any person’s quality of life. Unfortunately, college can also be stressful and many times I have faced challenges while attending college. Either these challenges can block me from reaching my goals, or I can learn to overcome these challenges and achieve my college goals. Reading and writing is one of my biggest weakness I come across with; I admit I’m not the best at it. But I know by trying my best to read a book or even a small article helps me improve my language skills. It takes time to adapt to something that you were never good at for some odd reason. But I looked at it as an opportunity to learn something new and to test my ability and intelligence. It’s not easy to do with deadlines and pressure, but keeping a positive outlook will go a long way toward making each issue a bit less overwhelming. Problems and obstacles are not always solved on the first try, or second or even the third try. It is difficult to address these challenges...

Motivational Talk

...History Month is "Celebrating Life, Building a Future." "Building a Future" is a powerful theme that applies to each student in this audience because you are our future. Everyone one of you has the potential to achieve anything you want in life. You were born with many talents that you don't even know you have. Someone in this audience may become a famous writer, may travel to the planet Mars or discover the cure for AIDS. However, to become successful requires that you set personal goals for yourself and then study and work hard to achieve them. Setting personal goals is very important because those who do not have goals in life do not know where they are going. Those who do not know where there are going could end anywhere. They could end in prison. They could end on illegal drugs. You must never, never, never experiment with any illegal drugs. It will ruin your life and the lives of those that love you. Those drug dealers standing in your street corners are trying to sell you a one-way ticket to nowhere. My advice to every one of you is to write down your goals on a piece paper. Then discuss your goals with your friends, parents and teachers. You should read your goals to yourself at least once a week. Reading your goals aloud helps you to stay focused. It creates a positive attitude that is necessary to overcome the obstacles that you will encounter along the way. A question that students often ask me is: "How can I overcome the major obstacles in life?" When I was 12 years old...

Why I Deserve This Scholership

...Cathy Ann Clayton Eng050:W01. 28 April 2015 Why I Deserve this Scholarship Hello my name is Cathy Ann Clayton, and it is an honor to be selected by the University to apply for this scholarship. Eight years ago I would have never imagined that I would be continuing my college education. Due to a health crisis I went through, which we were not sure that I would make it. I came through with a lot of determination, and hard work. Although I am not a traditional college student, I should be accepted as a student and given the offered scholarship because I am a worthwhile choice: I have overcome obstacles, I can bring a new perspective, and I can demonstrate my financial need for the scholarship As you know, I’m not your typical college age student. I am a 54 year old finishing my education, after overcoming a huge obstacle several years ago. It’s taken long time and a few boulders to climb over to get to this point. Eight years ago I had a nervous breakdown due to the loss of my father. This loss affected me tremendously, and I spiraled into a place no one should go. I have worked with a Psychologist to get through the dark place that I was in, which took many years. Two years ago my Therapist introduced me to a treatment, call Dialectic Behavior Therapy. Dr. Marsha Linehan created this therapy to help people think and respond to life differently.” DBT therapy is a broad-based cognitive-behavioral treatment developed specifically for Borderline Personality...
