If you're running a business or a depot, then you probably understand how hard it is to properly store things. Large warehouse stores keep a selection of their stock in the front, and then keep the rest of it stored away in the warehouse portion of the store, to be taken out when a restock is necessary. Of course this raises the question of how they can properly store all of their goods and make use of their space. Some of these stores have massive amounts of stock, so finding where to put it all can be a huge issue. Fortunately, this is where the technique of pallet racking comes into play.

Pallet racking is the ideal way to store things in a warehouse, and involves stacking the pallets along shelves full of racks. The real challenge is picking the right type of design for your shelves, as there are several available to pick from and they all …show more content…
This is designed for maximum space efficiency, but doesn't allow for very much rotation in your stock. In fact it's typically thought of as a first in, last out style of pallet racking, meaning if you're storing perishable goods then the stuff in the back will more than likely be wasted. This is best used for non-perishables, things you can just stick into the warehouse and not worry about. Basically this style of pallet racking means packing everything in as tight as possible and taking from the front.

Next up is one of the most efficient forms of pallet racking, referred to as live pallet racking. With live pallet racking the shelves are accessed from both sides. The back side of the shelves is loaded by fork lifts, and the design of the rack itself causes gravity to carry the pallets to the front side, where they stack nice and neat. From the front, other fork lifts can take from them, causing a nice streamlined flow of product going in and out and allowing for perfect stock rotation. This makes it one of the most efficient forms of pallet

They often have cranes and forklifts for moving goods, which are usually placed on ISOstandard pallets loaded into pallet racks. Stored goods can include any raw materials, packing materials, spare parts, components, or finished goods associated with agriculture, manufacturing and production. ------------------------------------------------- Warehouse function[edit] India House, Manchester.
