Abstract The purpose of this discussion and analysis is to examine the aspects of exemplary leadership using the key points addressed by Colquitt, Lepine, and Wesson (2011) in Organizational Behavior: Improving Performance and Commitment in the Workplace. The focus of the analysis is that of a candidate and a campaign manager on their political endeavors to win an election. Strategies such as legitimate power, ethical leadership, consultative decision-making, and transformational leadership will all be examined to provide further insight into how effective leadership can positively influence job performance and commitment. The result of the findings will prove that the methods and styles used are the most efficient for someone in this type of leadership position.

Required Individual Analytical Report
Introduction
This analytical paper discusses an example of exemplary leadership used in a political setting. The use of legitimate power was the driving force for leadership and helped overcome contingency factors such as substitutability, centrality, and visibility. Rational persuasion was used to drive point’s home and positively influence individuals while ethical leadership gained the trust and respect of supporters. This example of transformational leadership will be analyzed and reflected upon to provide insight into the most effective form of leadership.
Context
The leadership example used analyzes the strategies and techniques of a campaign manager and local Sheriff running for re-election. The point of view is from the assistant campaign manager of the committee who was granted an inside look into the tactics used to influence and motivate individuals, ultimately leading to a victory.
Discuss and Analysis
In 2007 I signed on as the assistant campaign manager to the Sheriff of my county who was running for re-election. This position involves a...

Qnt351 Data Analysis

...Week 2 Learning Team A Paper Parts 4 & 5 Levels of Measurement for Each Variable in the Study In the survey that Debbie Horner, the Human Resource manager, distributed to the company, there are different levels of data available for analysis. The question seeking information about the respondent’s gender is a nominal-level question. “The nominal level of measurement observations of a qualitative variable can only be classified and counted” (Lind, Marchal, & Wathen, p. 10, 2011). For analytical purposes the order in which the data is displayed makes no difference. The question regarding the division of work for the respondent, and the question regarding if the respondent is a member of management or supervision is also nominal. Also, the question pertaining to length is service is nominal because it only seeks one answer. The ten questions relating to how each respondent feels is interval-level data. The ten questions ask each respondent to rate his or her individual feelings on a scale of one to five. One is considered very negative and five is considered very positive. This is known as a Likert Scale. The Likert Scale is the most popular form of survey data collection because it is easy to assemble, the scale is more reliable, and produce more interval-level data (Cooper & Schindler, 2011). Data Coding After collecting the data, Sally, one the office support staff, began the task of coding the data. While some values were pre-determined......

5 Forces Analysis

...5 Forces Analysis on the Paper Industry Looking at the position of the paper industry relative to the five forces model I had to determine exactly what constituted the paper industry. I had to decide between the Paper Mills Industry and Pulp Mills Industry and ultimately decided to analyze the Paper Mills Industry specifically when it came to paper industry as a whole. The NAICS Code that corresponds to the Paper Mills Industry is NAICS: 322121 or SIC Code 2621. Porter’s Five Forces Model of Competition includes the firm’s, or in this case the paper mill industry’s, position relative to current competitors, suppliers, customers, potential new entrants and potential substitutes. Over the next few pages I will conduct a five forces analysis of the Paper Mills Industry. Current Competitors: The degree of rivalry in the paper industry is the center of the five forces and the other four forces branch off of this. The first aspect to look at is the number and position of companies within the paper industry. There were 445 companies in 2009 and as of 2013 there are now 119 companies in the industry. This industry still has many competitors within the industry and therefor, there shouldn’t be any impact of any particular company. This industry is large enough where these firms can prosper without having to steal market share from each other and this is a positive for the paper industry. The second key factor is the industry growth rate and if there is room to increase......

Ancient Chinese Contributions

...Ancient Chinese Contributions Kenneth Smith Professor Maxine Brown HUM 111-World Cultures I November 29, 2012 The Ancient Chinese culture has contributed in many ways to the way of life today as we know it. Upon completion of this paper, I will have identified eight to ten useful inventions or contributions that are used in the world today. Some of these inventions include the compass, gunpowder, row planting, deep drilling, and toilet paper and so on. Within those eight to ten inventions, I will choose four that I believe are the most innovative. Row Planting (Feudal period – 6th Cent BC) The Chinese started planting crops in rows sometime in the 6th century BC. This allows the crops to grow stronger and faster. It facilitates more planting, weeding, harvesting and watering. There is also documentation that they realize that as wind travels over the rows of plants there is less damage. This obvious development was not instituted in the western world for another 2200 years. (Steven H 2009) Compass (Feudal period – 4th Cent BC) The Chinese developed a lodestone compass to indicate direction sometime in the 4th century BC. These compasses were south pointing and primarily used on land as divination tools and direct finders. Written in the 4th century BC, in the Book of the Devil Valley Master it is written: “lodestone makes iron come or attracts it”. The spoons were made of lodestone, while the plates were of bronze. Thermo-remanence needles were being produced for...

Survival Guide

...Survival Guide Let’s Get Started On the first day of classes with Axia College, it is important to login and download the course materials and syllabus. I have found that by making folders under My Documents labeled first with the course name, and then inside have folders labeled each week 1-9 where I save the relevant materials for the weeks work. After downloading the files to the appropriate files, it is best to break up the syllabus. I like to copy and paste each week of the syllabus to a word document filed again under the corresponding week. This makes it easy to access what is needed for the week. It is also important to download the course calendar to keep a closer watch on when assignments are due. By looking at the course calendar at the beginning of each week you will be able to manage your assignments accordingly. After reading through the course syllabus and downloading course materials the next step is to check the main forum. The main forum is where your instructor posts information about what changes may be made for the week and also posts the weekly discussion questions for you to answer. In the main forum only the instructor will post topics. This is the area in which we as students post replies to the teacher and also our classmates. These posts are the only ones that apply to your weekly participation grade. It is very......

Satisfaction Survey Study

...Satisfaction Survey Study Perspective The Satisfaction Survey Study was performed due to the very low number of respondents that had submitted satisfaction surveys during the previous year and to see what the expected number of responses should be in comparison with our peers. Methodology From January to June, 100 patient satisfaction surveys were placed throughout our facility advising patients to take one. These surveys had return envelopes attached to them, without paid postage. One designated individual was responsible for maintaining these surveys so as we could determine the number of surveys that were taken. The surveys that were placed in our office were printed on gray paper.  Goal The goals of this study are to receive a comparable percentage of patient satisfaction survey responses in comparison with our facilities. Comparison/Benchmarks A 30% to 35% response rate is satisfactory according to a study, “Survey Response Rates and Overall Patient Satisfaction Scores,” published in the Journal of Nursing Care Quality 2003 Jul-Sept. And the Patient Survey Website June 2011 Article “What Does Patient Response Mean?”.  Results At the end of the 6 month period, January to June, there were 71 surveys remaining of the original 100 placed throughout our facility by which we determined that 39 surveys had been taken. We received only 6 surveys back during this time period. This is a response rate of 15% which is 20% lower than our benchmarks. In attempts to......

That said, I am NOT looking for original research, although in some cases (but not all cases), basic data analysis may be required for you to demonstrate certain points you wish to make. This project is about writing and expressing your ideas in a clear and careful way. A first draft of this term paper is due next Monday (November 11th). Please post the papers on Blackboard. If you must, you can forward to my email account. The paper must be typed, double spaced, and roughly 12 pages in length, exclusive of tables and references.
