Parties
Walking up the stairs to this loud, crowded, messy house, where tonight’s ‘phat’ party is being held. I take in the horrible smell of burning tobacco floating through the air being produced by young adolescents who have their 12oz. in one hand, and their Marlboro burning in the other. Black lungs, lung cancer, and that terrible smokers cough is all I can think of as I walk past these kids to one of my high school buddies who enjoys getting his pack-a-day of nicotine, tar filled cancer sticks. Is their really such thing as a light cigarette? I hold these thoughts to myself, and continue to chitchat with my buddy for the five minutes or so it takes him to finish his ‘cig’ about random, immature, and funny topics that he will probably forget about in the next 30 minutes. I carry on with my night by taking a few short steps into the crowded party house. Waka Flocka Flames “No Hands” is blaring through the air, people dancing, laughing, talking, and flirting while drinking their 12oz. cans. Standing to my left is at first glance a very attractive young woman, at second glance is a college student whose face is peeling due to the excessive amount of makeup covering her entire face. She is already starting to talk like she is a forty year smoker. I just saw her outside with a full 12oz. that she was rapidly finishing in order to get herself to as many of us young people would put it, “On Her Level”. I keep walking and feel my feet sticking to the floor with every step from the spilled 12oz., that someone spilled earlier in the night and has now dried up and become ant infested. As I pass the sticky ground, I make my way up the crowded stairs, trying to pass two people who have both of their arms around their friend, who is stumbling down the stairs due to her intoxication level. I think to myself “Why?” As I squeeze past the three of them. Many with firm, friendly handshakes greet me as I emerge from all the drunks at the top of the stairs, feeling like I just climbed Mount Everest. I walk into a room where the smell of armpits that are begging for deodorant makes me nauseous. I find my way to the nearest seat, which happens to be on a sofa around many who are not in the right state of mind to continue chugging their 12oz.’s. I stand right back up after seeing the person next to me rocking back and forth, in a motion that made me assume they are about ready to vomit. I then sit on the other side of the room away from all the loud slurring words of my intoxicated peers. Just so happens that where I sit happens to be a couch reeking of mold infestation, due to spilled 12oz. cans from intoxicated young adults. Time to go downstairs to the bathroom. Once again squeezing past all the people standing on the stairs, I finally arrive at the bathroom. Upon entry I see red, chunky vomit making myself wonder; Fruit punch Gatorade as a chaser, or somebody had some pizza that evening for dinner. Disgusted, I head to the next bathroom where there is a recently bleached white toilet, where I have the ability to cleanly release my bladder. Coming out of the bathroom, back into the filthy ‘Party’ house, I realize how intoxicated people can be funny, mean, and just plain stupid. The few sober people left in the house laugh hysterically at the vast amounts of drunks. I am unsure as to why I bother coming to these social events, perhaps it’s the fact that I find so much comedy, and amusement out of the binge drinkers. Or maybe it is the fact that there is obviously nothing better to do on a beautiful weekend night then to drink until you throw up. The party is ending, and everyone is headed back home. It is now time to call the only other person on this college campus who is sober, our fraternities designated sober driver for the evening. They arrive shortly after the initial call and give me a ride back to New Hall. Sitting in my room, I reflect upon this evenings events. I wonder why kids do this sort of thing. Is it because they want to be rebellious? Is it because it is fun doing something illegal? Or do they really appreciate, the watered down flavor that comes in a 12oz. can of Natural Light? I come to the conclusion that it is a mixture of all three. I look towards my alarm clock which displays 3am, an decide that I have had enough for one day, so I rest my head on my pillow, and fall asleep.

Party

...ten miles out of town where there is nothing around besides woods and corn fields. When friends would come over all there was to do was raise some hell, and see if we could get away with it, and raising hell is what we did best. My parents were hard workers. My father worked at a factory and my mom as a hair stylist. They were strict parents to an extent. They were the kind of parents that raised me to respect my elders, and if I did wrong I knew there was going to be a punishment. Punishments usually never crossed my mind though, because of course you have to get caught doing wrong to get punished. Which I never thought I would, and sometimes I would not get caught. Until the summer I thought my friends and I got away with the best party of all time. My parents never would leave town for a weekend, and on the rare occasions that they did I would not be left the house to myself. I would be stuck staying at a friend’s house until they got back. Except for some reason in summer of 2004 my parents came up to me on a Monday and told me that they would be taking vacation for the weekend and I would have the house to myself. At that very moment I was almost in shock. I could not really say anything. They began to explain rules for when they were gone. Like feed the dog, keep the house clean, cut the grass, water the flowers, basic odds and ends. While they were explaining all of this it was hard to concentrate because...

The Democratic Party

...Selena Briones 8 November 2012 Government The Democratic Party The Democratic Party is one of two major contemporary political parties in the United States along with the Republican Party. Since the 1930s, the party has promoted a social liberal and progressive platform, and its Congressional caucus is composed of progressives, liberals, centrists, and left-libertarians. The Democratic party believes, Rights of the Individual, Freedoms of the Individual, Responsibilities of the Individual, and Beliefs Concerning Societal Conditions and Governmental Responsibilities. The party has the lengthiest record of continuous operation in the United States and is among the oldest political parties in the world. The Democratic Party evolved from Anti-Federalist factions that opposed the fiscal policies of Alexander Hamilton in the early 1790s. Thomas Jefferson and James Madison organized these factions into the Democratic-Republican Party. The party favored states' rights and strict adherence to the Constitution; it opposed a national bank and wealthy, moneyed interests. The Democratic-Republican Party ascended to power in the election of 1800. Andrew Jackson is typically considered the first Democratic President of the United States. Current President of the United States Barack Obama is the 15th Democrat to hold that office. As of the 112th Congress following the 2010 elections, the Democratic Party currently holds a minority of seats in the House of Representatives and a...

Political Parties

...political parties differ over politics and ideas? The major political parties in the UK are Conservative and Labour. They show their different ideas and polices at election time. They show out their differences to voters in order to make them aware of how society would differed if their ideas are accepted and then their policies are put into place when one of them comes to power. Conservative party had a clear run up in the elections and difference over economic policy than Labour. They wished to make cuts in public expenditure and took off an immediate £6 billion in public spending. They cut deeper and faster than Labour would have achieved. Similar in taxation policy it is a Conservative idea to reduce taxes in order that people can retain as much of their income as possible. To achieve this national insurance was cut and also corporation tax. These policy ideas replicate Conservative thinking that the role and scope of the state has to be reduced. David Cameron was keen to extol the idea of the ‘big society’ meaning that the role and scope of the state will be reduced and in his place individuals, groups and voluntary organizations will replace and fill the void. This can be seen to have links with ideas from one-nation and Thatcherite factions. By encouraging individuals and organizations it can be seen as integrating society and developing paternalist views meaning to cover up what are essentially Thatcherite moves to cut the state. It is contrast to the Labour party who...

Each Party

...Each Party is Unique Every child and group dynamic is unique. Our parties reflect the personalities of everyone attending to ensure a wonderful time for all. We adapt to the situation with grace, energy and structure. Even though each party is different, our format remains primarily the same. Our parties start with the hostess coming to your home or location with a treasure chest filled with costumes and accessories. She starts with a short story. This builds anticipation while setting the scene for the activities ahead. Then the birthday child opens the treasure chest to reveal all the wonderful costumes inside. After everyone has put on their favorite outfit, we do individual pictures and you get a free website with hosted parties. Next we do a variety of theme related games and activities. So far, the story, dress-up, games and activities last about 45 minutes. We break for cake and presents or food and cake or some half hour where you handle the children and the hostess straightens things back up and also hides the clues for the final treasure hunt. The last 15 minutes of the party is a treasure hunt. This is a series of poems that lead the children from location to location and the final destination has their party favors. You can provide the party favors or we offer a discount for hosted parties for our favor sets. Since 1999, Princess and Pirate Parties has been focusing on the birthday child being the center of attention with theme related fun for both boys and girls...

Peronist Party

...The PJ (Peronist Party) according to Levitsky is a highly mis-conceptualized organization. Accepted amongst many is that the PJ lacks formal organization. Scholars have deemed its party’s organization as “virtually non-existent” (pg. 29). This belief is due to inactivity amongst party leader and the party bureaucracy. But to say the party is weak because of this, would be a mistaken belief. On the contrary, what would appear to be the greatest weakness is actually its greatest strength. One thing that is not misconstrued is that the PJ has a very large base. The PJ contains, “membership is nearly 4 million” (pg. 30). It is also “one of the largest democratic parties in the world” (pg. 30). So how can we say this party is so weak, when in its physical size, it is very large. Even if you were to disregard the fact that the PJ is strong in regards to its electoral strength, you still wouldn’t understand Levitsky’s argument. The PJ’s organizational structure has been under researched. Scholars tend to focus on the wrong things. The weak or lack of formal structure tends to “obscure the informal structure that surrounds it” (pg 30). The Peronist may not be highly visible in regards to a party bureaucracy, but is established in unions, homes, and clubs. These things are harder to see in records or statues but provide the party its network to the working or lower class. To understand why the party works this way, you must examine some of its history. The PJ is a...

Political Parties

...Political Parties Political Parties Rights for the individual are at the heart of the Libertarian Party, the belief that no one should have to sacrifice their values for the benefit of others. In 1971 the party was founded with the vision of peace, harmony and abundance. Free trade between individuals and protection from government seizure of assets, fraud, and misrepresentation are just a few of the key goals. The Libertarian Party seeks to protect individuals from control by state or government, they believe abortion should be free choice and not decided by state or government. They aim to protect freedom of speech and the ability to participate or abstain from religious activities. Sexual preferences and orientation is also another key point that the party believes should be left to the individual to decide. The Libertarian party believes all of the aforementioned rights should be protected as long as it does not impede on the rights of another. The Republican Party opposes abortion except in certain cases; many individuals may feel as though this should not be a decision to be made by the government. Mitt Romney opposes the idea unless it involved rape, incest, or threatens the mother’s life. Several life circumstances could impact ones belief, many of which would fall outside the views of Republicans. Religion is also contributing factor, an individual’s religious beliefs play an important role in pro-life arguments. This argument would fall...

Political Parties

...Democratisation in Turkey: The Role of Political Parties, Brussels: P.I.E.-Peter Lang, 2004. Comparative studies on regime changes in Southern Europe and Latin America have shown the central role that stable and strong party systems play in the consolidation of democracy. Although Turkish political parties and the party system have received considerable scholarly attention, their impact on the country’s democratization process has not been systematically examined. Huri Tursan’s book seeks to fill this gap in the literature on contemporary Turkish politics. A modified version of the author’s doctoral dissertation written at the European University Institute in Florence, the study describes the historical evolution of political parties, with particular focus on developments concerning party politics since Turkey’s transition from an authoritarian one-party regime to a multi-party system in the late 1940s. The bulk of the book analyzes the changing electoral fortunes of the individual parties over the past five decades, the impact of the breakdowns of democracy through military interventions in 1960, 1971, and 1980 on party competition, and trends in the party system over the years. The analysis of the changes in the party system concerning volatility, fragmentation, and polarization constitute the book’s main empirical contribution. The picture that emerges from Hursan’s study is that of a party system which lacks strong and cohesive parties and which has experienced protracted periods...

Political Parties

...Assignment: Political Parties The first issue I am going to discuss three different political views on is abortion. It seems as though abortion is such a fought on topic between people of different political parties. This is an issue with two clear sides, but one way of looking at that I had not seen before. It was really interesting to see these three different/similar views on such a big topic. First off is the Democratic party. On this issue the Democratic party supports a woman's right to make decisions regarding her pregnancy, including a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay. They argue that this kind of a decision is intensely personal to the women and her family. In this decision, there is no place for the government or politicians. They are on the side of pro-choice because they believe that each and every woman should be able to decide whether they want to be pregnant and have a baby. Woman should not be forced into doing something with their body just because it is what the government is saying. This kind of a decision should not involve the government. Next I looked at the Green party and their view on abortion. The view of the Green party was actually quite similar to that of the Democrat party. The Green party supports a woman’s right to reproductive choice, no matter her marital status. Also, they believe that a woman should have access to a safe and legal abortion procedure. Like the Democratic party, the Green party is on the side of pro-choice...

...personal values for the sake of someone else views. Members of this party are approving of constitutional limitations on all forms of government and stronger civil liberties. This party platform affects the traditional ideas of economic and foreign affairs. Voters of the Libertarian party would not favor the Republican Party, because they differ on civil liberty issues. Republicans tend to support the state governments having power to regulate citizen’s needs, but giving the federal government power over military and international affairs. This is a direct contrast of what the Libertarians support, except they take a stance that military should have absolute power over defense of aggression. Republican views tend to also be more conservative and traditional. In regards to, economics the Republican Party analyzes the economy as a free market run and through time will improve. The Democratic Party may not be favorable to those who chose the Libertarian Party, because Democrats are approving of a centralized power government. Democrats have the solid belief that the Federal Government administers citizens needs the best. In regards to economics another contrast between these two parties would be redistribution of wealth. For example democrats would support higher taxes on the wealthy and increased social programs for those in a lower economic class.   In conclusion, political preference is based on which party meets all or most of an individual’s ideologies. I am on the fence...

How to Plan the Perfect Party

...Throwing a good party is an art. Everyone can throw a party but it takes someone with experience and the know-how to throw one that all the guests will enjoy. A party can be a horrible experience if there’s no prior planning, direction and organization to make it work out. This essay will be the guide to planning the perfect party for young adults one step at a time. The first step will be choosing the right venue. One should pick a venue according to how many people are attending. If it is just a small gathering of not more than 10, pick a smaller venue. Too much space would result in the guests wandering around, limiting interactions and thus, making the party unenjoyable. Pick a larger venue if the number of guests is huge. A lack of space would deny the necessary space required for the guests to feel comfortable. One should also consider the location of the venue. The venue cannot be too inaccessible to the guests. The venue should also have some essential equipments, such as speakers for music or tables and chairs for the guests. A venue that meets the requirements of the party will make the guests feel comfortable and allowing them to enjoy what is planned ahead. The second step is to invite the guests. One should invite like-minded people or people from similar groups. This will allow the invited guests to have meaningful interaction throughout the party. Avoid inviting people that you know will clash with each other or have an obvious dislike for one another...

The Conservatives are a prime example of a “right-wing” party; the Labour party also adopted “right wing” ideas and began changes ways under the era of “blairism”, from being a “left wing-party” they adopted right wing ideas from the conservatives and were more or less similar to them. “Left-wingers” on the other hand generally have optimistic ideas about human nature and favour social change, left wingers tend to support liberty, equality and state intervention. The labour party is a “left-wing” party and has swifted back to its original ethos and ideas under the leadership of Jeremy Corbyn who is a far-left wing socialist. Furthermore left-wingers are keen to reduce the gaps between the rich and poor. They believe that society should work together to help everyone, which is why schemes like the NHS and benefits were introduced, But they argue that the rich should pay taxes thus reducing the gap between the rich and poor. To what extent are the major parties internally divided over policies and ideas The major contending parties are the Conservatives and Labour party, although they seem to be strong and stable parties, they have divisions internally over policies and ideas.
