What am I passionate about?
The example of a form of popular media that I am passionate about is a song by an artist named Marsha Ambrosius, called Far Away. This song is more than just a piece of entertainment and it’s a legitimate form of pop culture. I say this because it tells a story about being judged of your sexuality and it is also a message to stop the bullying of the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered) community.
The song Far away by Marsha Ambrosius just touched my heart when I listen to it and watched to video. This song sent out a message that was positive and it makes people want to speak out on bullying of the LGBT community, it also makes some people think twice about judging, and it makes people think period whether it is involving the “community” or not. The message of the song was to stop the bullying of the LGBT community, the message of the song was to stop the bullying of the LGBT community, the song was so touching, and I say this because I loved it from the first time I heard it and when I watched the video I just feel in love with her more because she understands what the LGBT is going through. Music is here to help us get through tough times when we are going through the challenges of life because someone else has had the same problem in the past and they were able to get past it. Music can also set us in certain moods like having a Christmas spirit, or when you are in love. We play music all the time in order to calm us down or hype us up no matter what the mood

The Passionate Shepard

...Christopher Marlowe: The Passionate Shepherd To His Love Composition III/Literature Christopher Marlowe was an English poet of the Elizabethan era, late 1500 to early 1600. He obtained his education from University of Cambridge, The Kings School, Canterbury and Corpus Christi. In 1589 while attending Cambridge University at its Corpus Christi College he wrote The Passionate Shepherd to His Love. It first appeared in print in poetry collections published in 1599 and1600. Marlowe’s theme of “The Passionate Shepherd” is the rapture of springtime love in a simple setting. Pastoral poems generally center on the love of a shepherd for a maiden, on the death of a friend, or on the quiet simplicity of rural life. The writer of a pastoral poem may be an educated city dweller, like Marlowe, who extolls the virtues of a shepherd girl or longs for the peace and quiet of country life. Through the descriptions in his poem he is not just conveying to his love, but also extolling the readers to “seize the day”, urging one to enjoy the moment without worrying about the future. The poem’s speaker is of a young man who is a shepherd who asks the young lady to “live with me and be my love,” (Marlowe, 1600, p. 749), noting that they will enjoy all the pleasures and beauty that nature has to offer. The description of “shallow rivers to whose falls, Melodious birds sing madrigals”, (Marlowe, 1600, p. 749), gives the vison of a river flowing with birds flying...

Passionate Shepherd to His Love

...Hatch Internship Sample Essay A Young Man’s Pursuit of Love “The Passionate Shepherd to His Love” is a pastoral poem that is simple yet idealized. This poem was written by Christopher Marlowe who was an English dramatist. Marlowe is considered to be the father of English tragedy. Christopher Marlowe was the eldest son of a shoemaker and was born on February 6, 1564. Through the entire poem the speaker, who is a shepherd, wants a woman character to come live with him. The speaker goes on to ask her to sit on rocks, and spend time with him. The speaker will make his love gifts and do anything to please her if she will just come live with him. The speaker, form, use of poetic elements, and theme of “The Passionate Shepherd to His Love” will be the main discussion in this analysis. Marlow writes this poem in first person. The speaker, which is the shepherd of “The Passionate Shepherd to His Love” conducts his poem in a very dreamlike way. The shepherd opens with the invitation: "Come live with me, and be my love." He is not asking her to marry him but only to live with him. The offer is simply put and the speaker suggests that the woman should just as easily agree. The shepherd obviously only wants her for a period of time. Knowing this, it may make the woman question whether or not she should get involved with this man. The speaker lives in an ideal society where everything is perfect. The shepherd does not really have a care in the world because he lives in his world...

The Passionate Shepherd To His Love And The Nymph's Respond

...The two poems, The Passionate Shepherd to His Love and The Nymph’s Respond to the Shepherd are two poems that have to do with love, nature, time, and materialistic items, but they each have different views of the topic. The poem the Shepherd has a keen view of love that lasts forever, “The shepherds’ swains shall dance and sing, For thy delight each May morning” (v. 21-22). The shepherd believes that love is forever like the nature and the seasons. The shepherd also has a materialistic view on love, “A gown made of the finest wool, Which from our pretty lambs we pull; Fair lined slippers for the cold, With buckles of the purest gold” (v.13-16). Materials are used as tokens of love in the shepherd’s eyes. The shepherd wants to live in the moment and not think about the future when it comes to love and the way he feels, “For thy delight each May morning: If these delights thy mind may move, Then live with me and be my love” (v.22-24), this also shows that...

Passionate

...A submissive woman is one who is born with the desire to surrender her will, mind, spirit and body -her very self- to someone she perceives as stronger, wiser, whom she is able to trust completely and who shares this inherent need. The D/s (Domination/submission) relationship can be more emotional, cerebral and honest than many so called 'vanilla' (non-D/s) relationships. Being submisive does not make you a doormat or mean that you must be passive in every aspect of your life, or be submissive in any way to anyone you may meet. On the contrary being submissive can ultimately make you a stronger woman. Most submissive women are strong-willed and intelligent. Being submissive to one man affords a woman the opportunity to embrace her man; to follow the man's lead, to please her man, to support and back him, to submit to him sexually, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. When the two meant for one another are finally able to meet, they will grow together in all aspects of life and feel more fulfilled than ever before. For a woman to submit is a beautiful thing indeed. To find that special man to submit to is just as beautiful, for it is not easy. These submissive feelings are always there beneath the surface. It takes a dominant man to recognize, nurture and bring out those vulnerable feeings. How to Be Submissive for Love Firstly, please don’t be fooled by the flashy title. I’m not encouraging women to play dumb, be in a ‘housewife’ role, or be helpless and have no opinions...

Passionate Dreamer

...A Safe Player or A Passionate Dreamer? The Choice Is Yours By Dishi Solanki: Life does not give you what you deserve. Life only gives you what you demand ~ Anonymus A year back when I was in India, I too had a dream. Dream of landing in USA, getting my MBA & making a mark at the exact opposite end of the globe. Sure enough, here I am sitting in my desired country doing exactly what I had envisioned. It was not a smooth jog & required dedicated sleepless nights but dream it was which manifested into reality. I have always demanded with my head held high from my favourite pal “Dear Loving God” and he has never let me down! Never beg for what is ours, you and only you can grab it. So, demand and work steadfastly. Before Michelangelo could make impossible possible in his painting of the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, he had seen the unseen as a visualization in his mind. No one else saw the impossible dream until it was finished in 1512. My heart bleeds to say that with growing age comes constantly fading credence to dream. We seldom realize the incredible power that we have within us; the power to believe in ourselves & live our visions. Ironically we tend to focus more than needed on the criticism & pessimistic talks pelted on us making us believe in 1000 reasons to not set out fearlessly to achieve the dream that we have. I would like to share the story of 3 Frogs that I read a while back: There was once a bunch of 3 tiny frogs, who arranged a running competition...

Care to Be Passionate

...Care to be Compassionate Angela Johnson NR 101 Spring 2015 Care to be Compassionate There are essentially six core characteristics that make an exceptional nurse: care, compassion, competence, communication, courage, and commitment. These characteristics correlate with one another and are the fundamentals in which every aspiring nurse should have. One must care enough to be compassionate, committed to communicate effectively, and with competence builds confidence and courage. All of these allows a nurse to demonstrate kindness and provide support for a patient which gives them more comfort. The most important characteristic a nurse can show is their compassion towards others in need. “Compassion means to suffer with. Compassion goes beyond empathy in that it translates an emotional connection with others’ circumstances into a desire to help” (Cummings, J., & McPhail, S., 2014, “Compassion in practice,” para. 2). When you break down the word to ‘co’ and ‘passion’ it means together and having strong emotions. To have compassion means not to sympathize but to empathize what the other person may be experiencing. Having the patience and desire to be able to understand a patient can help further assist and satisfy their needs. If a person is experiencing any kind of trauma, then a nurse must be able to assist both the emotional and physical needs and support he/she needs to return to optimal health. It’s essential to know and understand the expectations a nurse must...

The Passionate Sage Analysis

...The Passionate Sage created by Joseph J. Ellis is a novel that mainly focuses on the time period that John Adams was retired. Something that would marvel the reader, is that it is not really a saga over John Adams, but actually is an analysis more or less. The books analysis over John Adams has an astonishing amount of detail over his life. Mainly after his presidency and during his retirement, but does talk about his education and his early life as well. Ellis’ main thesis throughout the book is stating that John Adams is one of the Founding Fathers of the United States that is still in the shadow of some of the most famous Founding fathers such as George Washington or even Ben Franklin. In other ways Ellis expresses that we the people of...

Response to Howard Zinn's Passionate Declarations

...Cedric Brewer English W131 Ms. Tracy Donhardt January 19, 2013 The Status Quo In Howard Zinn’s book, Passionate Declarations: Essays on War and Justice, Chapter 1 entitled, “Introduction: American Ideology,” begins with a discussion of a few instances in history where groups of people believed that other races and social classes were inferior to others. The end result of these instances was that many, if not all, of the inferior people were killed. From these occurrences, Zinn concludes that our thinking does not merely spark debates, but ultimately is a variable of life and death. He also believes that although we live in a democratic country, the ideas of ethical behavior that were formulated by our forefathers has condemned us to accept them as right, without questioning why they are right. These American ideologies were not framed by a group of conspirators, nor were they accidental; these ideas were a result of natural selection in which ideas were encouraged, financed, and pushed forward by those who were in power or by those who had great influence on the general public. People who were in power pushed these ideologies because they wanted more control. If people were allowed to do and think as they pleased, they would end up having no control over the public. Although these beliefs were written off as correct, Zinn believes that if we decide to reexamine these beliefs, and see that they are not “natural” ideas, we have come to a major turning point: we are examining...

Man vs. Woman

...Man vs. Woman? When poets decide how they want to express their ideas and opinions, they often use personas, which may or may not be themselves. The main persona in Christopher Marlowe’s poem, “The Passionate Shepherd to His Love” makes promises to the intended audience to stay by his side. In contrast, the main persona in Sir Walter Raleigh’s poem, “The Nymph’s Reply to the Shepherd” appears to respond to that of Marlowe’s poem in a negative tone. Because of the nature of both poems, Marlowe’s poem has a masculine voice, whereas Raleigh’s poem has a feminine voice. The history of the poem and the way it was written can help decipher whether if the poem was a masculine tone or a feminine tone, or even the each way gender reacts to the idea of courting presently in comparison to how the poets interpreted courting. Both poems were published during the late 17th century and the early 18th century. A critical essay written by Sheri E. Metzger states that “the great Elizabethan lyric sequences typically begin by identifying the poet's mistress as the primary lyric audience” and this quote shows that during the Elizabethan time period many of the lyrics of poems written would refer their mistresses as the audience. Poems were a very popular way of courting members of the opposite sex. Both poems were a way for the poet to show their emotions to their lovers. Marlowe attempted to do this by expressing the many things he had to offer to his love in order for her to come by his side...

The Nymphs Reply

...Nancy Gilmore ENG/125 Literature in Society January 22, 2010 Mr. Jeff Verver In “The Nymph’s Reply to the Shepherd” by Sir Walter Raleigh, is a comeback poem to Christopher Marlowe’s poem, “The Passionate Shepherd to His Love”. Both of these poems use imagery and symbolism to describe love. The formation and construction of these poems are consistent and related. The poems also create rhythms that allow the text to flow and come together. Raleigh main focus in his poem describes conflict and rejection of being in love. A nymph is goddesses in ancient mythology represented as maidens living the mountains, forests, meadow, and waters. Raleigh uses the word "nymph" instead of "girl" in the title so the reader can identify that the speaker is a girl. The stanzas in each poem often reflect one another and Raleigh’s poem answers the request to the shepherd. Marlowe begins with the proposal for the maiden to "Come live with me and bee my Love" (1). This statement made by the shepherd is asking for her to be with him. His request is simple and truthful, with "all (her) pleasures prove" (2) if only she will live with him and be his love. He wanted to give her eternal love through his materialistic world, but this perception of love represents the idea that love can be bought at a price.      Raleigh’s reply to the shepherd proves that love is not what it seems to be. He states in the first stanza “If all the world and love were young, And truth in every shepherds tongue...
