Past, Present, Future

...Running head: PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE Past, Present and Future Brandon M. Kilmade PSY 202 Professor Ramsey June 8, 2009 Past, Present and Future Things are finally starting to come together for me in my 35th year in this adventure called life. I have been through ups and some major downs in my lifetime and everything that I have experienced has had a part in why I am the way I am today. Little did I know that my past would have a great effect on my future, as well. I sit here today with a clear image of who I want to be and what it will take to uphold that image. I know where I want to be and how to get there, now I just need to let life take its course and wait. This is a journey of my life past, present and future. Growing up as the youngest child of three was quite an advantage for me. I got to see firsthand what not to do and who not to hang out with. This only helped me to be more aware and to be careful. Universal changes are common to every individual in a species and are linked to specific ages (Boyd & Bee, 2006). I was in class way before I ever stepped foot in a classroom. Life lessons I learned before my life had really begun. I came from a loving but dysfunctional family setting. I cannot really say that I had the best role models to look up to or follow. My parents split up when I was eight years old. My dad was a deadbeat and my Mother had to provide for us on her own. Needless to say her best was not enough and we still needed help......

Reviewing the Past the Patriot

...A. What elements in the film are historically accurate and which are inaccurate? Give examples from the article to illustrate.  Some elements of the film were accurate such as guerilla war fare on both sides such as the British slaughtering villages and the Americans killing officers first in the battle. There are also inaccuracies that historians have found such as the character Benjamin Martin and the battle of Cowpens which Cornwallis was not present. Many historians criticized the movie for these inaccuracies to the point where it was even compared the Godzilla to biology. B. In your view, do the historical inaccuracies harm or help our understanding of past events and historical figures? Explain I think in this particular movie it does harm the understanding because the revolutionary war was the birth of our nation, and for the movie to have incorrect information takes away the realization of the war. We as Americans are proud of our for fathers fight for our nations freedom, so for someone who loves history might have a problem with the movie, but if you don’t really want to take the time to research movies like this are good to get the jest of history. C. In your view, do the historical inaccuracies harm or help our understanding of the present (people or groups)? That is to say, is the director using historical events and people to make a point about America and Americans today? Explain. For this particular movie I think the director did a good job as......

My Past, Present, and Future

...My Past, Present, and Future PSY 202 My past was my future, and both were full of doubt and unwillingness to continue my education after I graduated from high school. After high school, three individuals impacted my life and changed my views on family, life, and education. Several years passed with me working a steady job until I found myself almost unemployed and needing the education I had not pursued. This resulted in my decision to join the Army to support my financial needs. I felt satisfied with my employment, until I decided to have a family of my own and with this expansion; I knew I had to further my education to meet the requirements to excel in my career. These life experiences changed my views on family, life, and education. Unfortunately, I was always unbalanced and unable to meet the educational needs that needed to be settled in my life. The three individuals that have influenced my life, and who have helped me become the person that I am today are my father, my uncle, and my wife. Their influence has greatly affected who I am and who I want to be. Urie Bronfenbrenner stated, “Ecological theory proposes that human development is best explained in terms of the interaction between individuals and the environments in which they live or have lived” (Witt & Mossler, 2010, p. 53). My father was a big influence, directing me to conduct myself as a man should. He instilled morals, beliefs, and responsibilities that helped me to look for the good in everyone...

Leadership, Past Present Future

...Leadership: Past, Present, Future There are three aspects of my life that are very important to me; the people I spend my time with, the books I read and what I spend my time thinking about. I deem these things important because they are where I find most of my inspiration. The concept of leadership is a very broad one, however, there is a subtle, yet very potent driving force, rooted in excellent leadership; that is inspiration. Inspiration propelled our leaders of the past, it is seen today and hopefully it will drive our leaders of tomorrow to greatness. When we think of the stories in history that really mattered, the ones that have stood the test of time, they are stories of great leaders who persevered through times of great turmoil and inspired the people around them to do the same. An excellent example is the case of Dr. Martin Luther King who spear-headed the civil rights movement. Even though the movement eventually claimed his life, his legacy lives on today through those who believe in what he fought for. My favorite author Paulo Coelho once said, “The world only gets better because people risk something to make it better.” When I put on the television, I see religious bombings in Nigeria, flooding in Bangkok, economic turmoil in Europe and it just seems like the world is in total chaos. Sometimes I get despaired because I wonder if anything I do will even make a difference. But then, I remember that what has got me this far in my life is the belief......

My Past, Present Future

...My Past, Present, and Future Hard life does not equal reason for failure, but reason for determination. Even though it may seem with so much bad you are bound to fail, with all of my bad I'm bound to succeed. I have been through a lot in life, just as every single mother but I still have what it takes for my future success. Do you have what it takes for a brighter future? The first reason I believe hard times give you determination, is because I had a hard childhood growing up. Beginning with my father abusing my mother and he was never around, a mother who was struggling to figure out who she was and what she wanted in life, and how to take care of a teenager with so many bad experiences. My father was murdered in front of me and passed in my arms when I was seven years old. My only father figures I had left were my brothers who for their own reasons couldn’t be around much. I turned to alcohol at a young age thinking it would make my life better. I felt as if I was alone. I didn’t know I had people that would be there for me. All I knew was my immediate family and my friends, which were not good influences. My mother had turned to alcohol as well and I was always home alone or with my uncle John. I never wanted to go to school; however, my uncle encouraged me to do so. I continued to attend school and did the best I thought I could. I got into skating thanks to my uncle and that is how I got rid of my stress if I had it. Uncle John always took me and my friends to the......

Social Media Past Present and Future

...I have chosen the above topic, due to the fact I feel that in the past with the Social Media there was not so much conflicts with people, children as well with the communication. There was not to much violence , children killing each other the social media as well was not so crazy and bad as it is now. Very good Example Face Book back then we didn’t have that or Tweeter , Etc. Nothing back then was so complicated and crazy as it is now. The Social Media at this time Present is at this has affected a lot of people teenagers are now involved in so many things that affect them , in school , emotionally , kids , at home , the media now has become like a addiction specially to the teenagers that are in schools etcs a lot of this has helps people that are mean out there to be able to communicate with children that are under age, perfect example the topic Bully now a days the Social Media people use it to bully other children that for them is the easiest way to either bully, or get children under age involve in things that have nothing to do with there ages. I think that the media should be more careful in regards to tracking little kids that don’t have to be involve when it comes to the face book or tweeter, for me I don’t think that it should exist because due to all this face book some people commit either suicide it has become more close in , and write things that some of there own family will not even find out till it is too late. Specially children that some parents are not......

On the Shallowness of Bratman's No Regret Condition

...Alex Pond Phil 4010 Dec. 2, 2014 On the Shallowness of the No Regret Condition I would disbelieve the person who claimed to have never experienced regret. There are so many triggers for this emotion that to have completely avoided it, one may question the authenticity of the social existence of the agent that has managed this avoidance. Bratman initially proposes the no regret condition in an attempt to explain how rational agents may stick to prior plans in the face of a temporary preference reversal. I will argue in this paper that in doing so he makes a positive contribution to practical reasoning theory, but his defense of the condition is contradictory, and highlights underlying commitments he has made regarding what we are ontologically that I believe to be misguided. The working example is that Chrisoula desires to work on a paper, which is to be published, tonight after dinner. During dinner she enjoys a glass of wine, and after she has finished that glass, she genuinely desires another. Knowing fully well that having consumed two glasses of wine, her cognitive and articulative abilities will be noticeably impaired; these two evaluative rankings are mutually exclusive (insofar as Chrisoula values the quality of her work). What should she do? There is a sense that, in their immediacy, evaluative rankings hold equal sway in the decision making process of the decider. The desire Chrisoula had, before dinner, to work on her paper, was equally as strong as her......

Sociology

...Education as Conservative and Progressive Chapter 6 of Democracy and Education by John Dewey 1. Education as Formation. We now come to a type of theory which denies the existence of faculties and emphasizes the unique role of subject matter in the development of mental and moral disposition. According to it, education is neither a process of unfolding from within nor is it a training of faculties resident in mind itself. It is rather the formation of mind by setting up certain associations or connections of content by means of a subject matter presented from without. Education proceeds by instruction taken in a strictly literal sense, a building into the mind from without. That education is formative of mind is not questioned; it is the conception already propounded. But formation here has a technical meaning dependent upon the idea of something operating from without. Herbart is the best historical representative of this type of theory. He denies absolutely the existence of innate faculties. The mind is simply endowed with the power of producing various qualities in reaction to the various realities which act upon it. These qualitatively different reactions are called presentations (Vorstellungen). Every presentation once called into being persists; it may be driven below the "threshold" of consciousness by new and stronger presentations, produced by the reaction of the soul to new material, but its activity continues by its own inherent momentum, below the surface of......

Free Will

...by standing up for what she believes is right, while the Younger family holds on to the past letting it dictate their freedom and control both the present and future. Some might say that Antigone was stubborn and foolish for not letting go of her beliefs but she was portraying her free will and freedom to do what she thought was right. A perfect example of this was when Creon asked her if she was the one who committed the ‘crime/burial, “Do you deny you did this, yes or no?” “Antigone replies, I did it. I don’t deny a thing” (Antigone- 1322). She had the courage, guts, and tenacity to exercise her own discretion and did not fear adversity. The Youngers, on the other hand, are quite the opposite. Although they had the right of freewill and control, they never seemed to take any chances to live for the future but rather let the past undermine what was present and ahead. Mama, seems to be living by rules that her dead husband had set forth and cannot seem to break away from them. For example when Ruth says “Now what kind of talk is that? Mr. Younger would just be plain mad if he could hear you talking foolish like that” She responds “Yes… he sure would (Sighing)”, (A Raisin in the Sun 469). Both Ruth and Mama do not seem to realize that they are living in the past. However, towards the end of the play the Youngers begin to understand the concept of freewill and control. They let the past go and invest in...

Persuasive Speech

...We would be nothing without the experiences that form us. Both the good and the bad etch themselves into how we see and feel the world. If we are lucky, work hard and learn our lessons then, hopefully, the good outweigh the bad. We learn that the world is an exciting but also a dangerous place. Certainly most of us have had our fingers burnt at some time or another. That is, bad things have happened to us during our lives. They range from the physical scars we bear from cuts, breaks, illnesses and diseases that strike us down sometimes without warning. They are the accidents from simply falling over or from going head to head with a car. They are the psychological scars from tragedies such as bereavement or divorce. We often say that given time, we will recover. We will get better. Things will improve. Time, we say is a great healer. Time itself though if we think about it, is indifferent to our various crises and celebrations. Time, we seem to have universally agreed is a unit measuring the distance between two events. The hours, weeks, months and years themselves do not do anything. It is how we fill our time that makes it productive, or wastes it. Different people in the same period of time will do very different things. One might write a masterpiece, another might embroider a quilt. One might do nothing but watch TV. The same amount of time has passed but with very different results. It is up to us to give the time value and meaning. When we suffer an injury, we know that...

...profession that brought credibility for complex business practices that sparked the economic, and as a platform to the information revolution that is transforming the global economy . Most of us don’t know the names of accounting innovators; in reality, there are no names were known before the Italian Renaissance. The early history and scholars from many fields showed the importance of accounting to so many aspects of economics and culture in the past. Archaeologists discover the interpretations of the artifacts of the ancient accountants, and it is developed over 5,000 years. Accounting was main factor to the success of Italian merchants, necessary to the birth of the Renaissance and Industrial Revolution firms. Nowadays, a global economy integrated information system is a reality, creating new accounting paradigms. Understanding accounting history is needed to develop a link to predict this future business world. The only way we can understand who we are as an accountant and how we got to be that way is by studying the past. Difference Paper

...Financial and Managerial Accounting. Financial and management accounting are both important tools for a business, but serve different purposes. A business uses accounting to determine operational plans in the future, to review past performance and to check current business functions. Management and financial accounting have different audiences, as investors are not usually involved in the day-to-day operations of the business but are concerned about their investment, whereas managers need information quickly to make daily business decisions. Financial Accounting Financial accounting is used to present the financial health of an organization to its external stakeholders. Board of directors, stockholders, financial institutions and other investors are the audience for financial accounting reports. Financial accounting presents a specific period of time in the past and enables the audience to see how the company has performed. Financial accounting reports must be filed on an annual basis, and for publically traded companies, the annual report must be made part of the public record. Management Accounting Management or managerial accounting is used by managers to make decisions concerning the day-to-day operations of a business. It is based not on past performance, but on current and future trends, which does not allow for exact numbers. Because managers often have to make operation decisions in a short period of time in a fluctuating environment, management accounting relies...
