The first exploration rover has landed on Mars, in Ares Vallis. Launched eight months before the landing, the Pathfinder mission was declared a success after a quick systems check. Over a total of two months and twenty-three days, Pathfinder sent back 2.3 bits of data, including 16,500 pictures from the lander itself and more than 550 from the Sojourner rover. An important date in the Pathfinder mission was December 4, 1996, when Pathfinder and Sojourner were launched from the Cape Canaveral launch pad. They were launched via a Delta 7925, the more powerful version of the Delta II booster. The Delta II boosters consisted of five components: the first stage for ascension, solid rocket motors which are used to increase engine thrust, the payload fairing to protect the spacecraft, the second stage which houses the fuel, oxidizer, and the ‘brains’, and the third stage which provides most of the velocity change for the trajectory to Mars....

One central assumption of the model was empirically tested and put into practice in one small-scale KM project. The developed model enables psychometric access to a part of non-explicit knowledge through structural assessment techniques. Furthermore, the model has proven to be of value in a practical application in KM.
