In Margaret Edson’s play Wit, patient Vivian Bearing undergoes an eight month chemotherapy treatment, when Dr. Jason Posner walks into the room to do his daily check up and realizes his she has passed away. Jason’s denial provokes him to call a code blue to resuscitate her. Soon after, Susie runs in and explains to him that “She’s DNR… She’s NO CODE… Kelekian put the order in― you saw it! You were right there, Jason” (Edson 82)! We see Susie struggling to end Jason’s order when the code team comes in. She keeps advocating that the patient is no code, but the code team does not acknowledge her, until Jason confesses that he made a mistake.
