Hester Prynne is a fictional character portrayed by Demi Moore. Moore’s character defied all patriarchal standards in which resulted in public shaming, being attacked by vulgar language, and finally almost being hung for her feminist ideologies. Historically speaking, women during this time were supposed to be completely submissive by doing the following: avoiding being seen with any other men besides their husband, not having a say-so with the finances and purchasing of goods, and lastly, they must believe that they are inferior to men and their sole purpose is to please their husbands and procreate as a part of the Lord’s plan.
