“Give me liberty or give me death!” (Henry). Every American has heard the famous lines of Patrick Henry, Wadsworth’s poem about Paul Revere, the tale of Washington’s apple tree, and numerous other tales of the American Revolution. However, historical dates, opinions, and figures give depth and understanding to this new beginning and explain the events that led to American’s freedom. From 1775 to 1783, The Revolutionary War raged between England and her colonies in the “new world.” Because they waged the actual battles, the opposing troops played crucial roles in determining the struggle’s outcome. Defensively, the woodsmen and pioneers along the Indian Territory complained because they continued to pay for the supposed defense that had been removed post war (59-60). In response, Parliament passed the “Navigation Acts,” which limited outgoing trade from the colonies. Infuriated by their restricted business, merchants and landowners chimed in their complaints as well. Unknowingly, England united various occupations of Americans with one, similar objection. Striving to bring the colonies obediently back under their rule, Parliament tightened the power when flexibility offered the superior alternative. In ignorance of the American’s rising anger, Britain instituted the Molasses Act in 1733, giving soldiers the right to search and seize illegal goods from homes (61). This escalated into the “Currency Act” where colonies were prohibited to coin money and forced to rely solely on paper currency (62). Although not intended as such, colonists saw these acts as attacks on their personal homes and economy.
