How pendulum length affects the time of swing
AIM: To find the relationship between the length of a simple pendulum and the period of swing
Hypothesis: The longer the length of a simple pendulum, the longer will be the period of oscillation
Materials: Retort stand, pendulum mass, clamp, ruler, stop watch and string
Method:
Functional Diagram

Procedure * Set up retort stand and other equipment * Decide angle of swing (40o) * Measure length by metre ruler * Measure length of pendulum (20cm) * Measure the time of 4 swings * Average the time taken of 4 swings * Change the length of pendulum to (30cm) * Measure period of 4 swings * Average the time taken of 4 swings * Change the length of pendulum to (40cm) * Measure the time taken of 4 swings * Average the time taken 4 swings
For safety (nothing important) A. Average the 4 swings B. Repeat the experiment as often as possible
Results

Conclusion
There is a relationship between the pendulum length and the period of time taken for the pendulum to swing. When the length of the string is increased, the value of the period also increases. When the length of the string is decreases, the period also decreases. The length of pendulum does change the duration of the swing.

Discussion A. To improve the experiment the angle (40o) has to be the same, the length of pendulum has to be changed and its mass always stays the same. * Set up at least 1 more trial using exactly same equipment * Set up a trial using same equipment but different measurements(angle, string length, mass) * Set up trial using different equipment to see if result is the same or different.

This is in some way similar to the situation for objects in free fall, which all have the same acceleration regardless of their mass. Because the acceleration for both periods is the same, the period for both is also the same. Amplitude: The graph recorded shows how the amplitude does not affect the period of a pendulum either. ...The Pit and The Pendulum is arguably one of Edgar Allan Poe's greatest works. The Pit and The Pendulum spins a web of insanity over the main character during the Spanish Inquisition. The setting of the story helps shroud it in the theme of fear, torture, and madness. The pit, i believe symbolizes humanity's fear of the unknown, it can also represent the gate to hell, seeing how this story is set during the Spanish Inquisition this theory is highly plausible. Also the psych of Poe himself can be used as an example of an effective horror tone and atmosphere. But this story isnt just horror is it? No this goes much deeper than that by addressing the malleability of the human mind. In the text it states that the narrator witnesses a trio of white candles turn into angels and then shift to his tormentors. What sets this story apart is that it instills a feeling of terror into the reader with its heavy emphasis on the senses of the narrator, unlike poes other works such as the Tell-Tale Heart and The Raven which rely on the supernatural element typical of horror stories. The pendulum which filleted anyone unlucky enough to be caught in it’s wake, symbolizes the fallibility of humans as a whole and the march of time till death.
