INTRODUCTION

In this fast growing generation, students study hard to finished their degree and deserve to live the life they dreamed, They are expecting that life will be easier after earning a degree as they open a door for a new chapter of life after graduation. In the year 2008 according to POEA, minimum wage of salary was hard to come and graduates who want to go abroad but they can not immediately qualify for employment overseas due to lack of the necessary experience required by foreign employers. This 2013, Hospitality Industry encourage students to be a part of them as they face the economy with their growing and developing industry modernized lodging establishments and newly ways of serving customers are the stepping stone of the said industry. And as one of the major contributor of the 5 star Hotel Manila in Alabang believes that the “Time is ripe for a tourism booms in the Philippines.” Hoteliers promotes Philippines as the number one Hospitality Industry country and there’s no doubt by that through their performance showed through out this year. Company urged students to be skillful and knowledgeable as they enter in a world of Hospitality Industry.

Hospitality environments are very dynamic and no matter what area appeals to you, opportunities are waiting for you to fill them. Students are expected to be competitive enough as they face the entry-level position which is consider as their foundation in work. One of the hardest task in life is making a decision on what career to pursue. Students consider a lot of things in expecting for an entry-level position, including parents advice, family status, educational attainment, peer pressure over one self perceptions in life. Most of them wanted to be a chef due to the misconception that “HRM is all about cooking” without knowing that Hospitality is the only industry that can survive an all bases such as land, air and water. Meaning with the hospitality industry, you need to be flexible. Students need to step out regarding the wrong quotation and explore the world of Hospitality Industry. Some of the perceptions and expectations of graduating students regarding entry – level position ; are service crew in fast food restaurant, waiter/waitress in bar, chef, housekeeper in a hotel or even to put up a small business. Others who has more self-confidence aim higher even on an entry-level position such as receptionist, manager, supervisor, marketing department, front desk clerk and even working abroad. Expecting too much higher position is not good at all because the thing you want in advance still needs two steps backward before stepping forward. Suggesting students to lower their perceptions certainly is not stopping them but preparing them for whatever they will be face in the future. This study on the perceptions and expectations of graduating BSHRM students regarding entry-level position after graduation serves as an eye opener for all the respondents to the competitive world of hospitality industry; that they should not be contented in a lower position instead make it as their stair to a management position.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

1. What is the demographic profile of respondents according to: 2.1 Age 2.2 Gender 2.3 Socio-economic status 2.4 Civil status 2.5 Parents Educational Attainment 2.6 Combined monthly income of the family 2. What will be the respondents desired job after they graduate? 3. What will be the hindrances in applying for the first job? 4. What will be the implications of a student who has a working experience
Compare to the one who is a first timer? 5. What are the respondents recommendation for their school to equipped them
For future work?

ASSUMPTIONS

In this fast growing generation, students need to be well equipped to be competitive as they apply for a job, for this reason the researchers of the study are guided by the following assumptions: 1. The information that will be gathered are valid and reliable. 2. Through this study, CSTA students will be proven to be more equipped and competitive as compared to other colleges and universities around the area. 3. With this study, BSHRM students will be guided on their preparation in finding their first job with realistic views and accurate perceptions. 4. That the responses among respondents as regarding to their perceptions and expectations of graduating BSHRM to entry-level position after graduation will be as a guide to be followed to other graduating students.

SCOPE AND LIMITATION This study aimed to guide the BSHRM students of CSTA in finding their first job. It will be limited to the responses in the research made questionnaires of the BSHRM graduating students of Colegio de Sta. Teresa de Avila located at 6 kingfisher cor. Skylark St. Zabarte Subd. Novaliches, Quezon city.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Faculty member – They will be able to gather more information regarding
Physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of respondents that leads to their success in future. Further they may improve learning process that will motivate and equipped student to be globally competitive and concern in the community.
Parents – That they may give good advice and guide their children in choosing the right path towards success so as to motivate their children to be more competitive.
Community – That they may influence their fellowmen in terms of achieving their dreams and goals to make the right decisions with the necessary knowledge and skills for only the best.
Students – For them to realize that having a good perceptions and expectations in life is necessary to be totally skilled and equipped to become in demand in the future that may serve as their tool to attain their goals and dreams in life.
Future researcher – This serves as their guidelines as they conduct related study that will improve other factors that influence perceptions and expectations of graduating students.

Curriculum – This refers to a list of all the courses of study offered by a school Career – This refers to the occupation or profession. Degree – This refers to the academic award conferred by a university or colleges On successful completion. Expectation – This refers to the act or looking forward or anticipating. Establishment – This refers to the business organization or other large institution. Economy – This refers to the disposition or regulation of the parts or functions of any organic whole. Hospitality – This refers to the quality or disposition of receiving and treating guest and strangers in warm, friendly, generous way. Industry – This refers to the organized economic activity concerned with manufacturer, extraction and processing of raw materials or construction. Management – This refers to the persons controlling and directing the affairs of a business. Promotion – This refers to the advancement in rank or position. Perception – This refers to the insight or intuition gained by perceiving . Position – This refers to the condition with reference to place, location and situation. Recommendation – This refers to the representation in favor of a person. Skill – This refers to the ability coming from one’s knowledge, practice, aptitude to do something well.
