A character trait I think Fredrick Douglass had throughout “Frederick Douglass” and “Oration” was perseverance. In the “Frederick Douglass” biography, through his life Frederick never gave up even though he had been through so much hardship. One example was when Frederick was younger, and his master (Thomas Auld) sent him to a slave breaker. Even Though, he broke him in body, soul, and spirit, that did not last long as he started to fight for the slave’s rights and freedom.

Perseverance was also shown in “Oration” while Frederick Douglass was giving his speech on July 5th, 1852. Even while doing a speech which was supposed to be about America’s freedom, he made the speech about the slave’s freedom. The point Frederick Douglass was trying
