Personal Responsibility

One of the challenges of being human is obstacles that people encounter in life. These can be big or small depending on the particular time in your life. At a young age you have goals set for you from your parents, role models you do not see these being a big goal but at that time they are. Once you get older you start challenging your mind and setting goals and every goal has some sort of challenge. Along with this come obstacles that you have to learn how to conquer. This can be family, money, job, outside influences and the list can go for days. When growing up all the goals that have been set for you and then the goals you set for yourself you have overcome the obstacles and started a foundation for life. This is when you learn how to take an obstacle and turn the obstacle in to a solution for the goal.
To overcome obstacle you have to learn how to block everything else going on and provide your full attention to the goal you are trying to achieve. Regardless who you are every person has an emotional side to them. A lot of people have emotional feelings towards something that they strongly believe in, at some points in life you have to learn how to cut all emotional ties off. When doing so this will help you provide your full attention to the solutions to achieve your goal. Now is where you learn your personal responsibility what matters to you as a person. “But personal responsibility also means that when individuals fail to meet expected standards, they do not look around for some factor outside themselves to blame” (Haskins, July 2009, Para.1). The only person that can change anything about you as a person will be yourself. Having flaws are something I consider beneficial to a person. When a person can acknowledge there flaws and learn how to use their flaws and accept them that is the first step to self-realization. As you grow and learn these things about yourself you will learn then push yourself to move forward. For moving and thinking beyond what you can see is when you will start making the unconscious decisions. At this point is when you will achieve some of the biggest challenges in your life.
Knowing yourself has many benefits: you know and acknowledge your responsibilities, how to use your flaws to embrace to overcome your obstacles, and to make unconscious decisions. A lot of people have many outside influences telling them what they should do with their lives, what kind of school to go to and how to manage everything along with life. As a person you have to learn to be happy and make your own responsibilities and not be cautious about what others think. No one knows what will make you happy and if you are not happy there is no way to overcome and achieve a goal. I have watched family members go through many obstacles and the outcome has never come to be beneficial to them. I feel that at the time they approached these obstacles they were never in the right state of mind to achieve what goal they were after. This is due to them not knowing their own personal responsibilities, how to overcome the emotional ties, learn how to embrace their flaws to achieve what the end result was. After acknowledging their mistakes helped me learn how to reevaluate how I would go about knowing my own personal responsibilities and learning to focus on how to achieving my goals.
Once a person is able to sort out what his or her obstacles are and how to achieve his or her goals, this is when the person will be able to take the step towards goal setting. Life is about stepping stones you cannot over step one stone and think you will be successful. As growing up and learning about yourself daily you then can make the decision towards finding a career and going to college to accomplish the career path he or she decided on. When a person knows his or her responsibility the person knows how to handle and manage the obstacles that could come in between accomplishing his or her college goal. When the person fully commits to a college goal towards a career, as a student it would be very helpful to have mentors. When a person is able to relate to someone else that has went through the same process it will help the person be able to get through the difficult times. Number one key to success is committing to that goal, the second thing to get closer to accomplishing the goal is to communicate with others, and the third is to not lose focus. If a person is able to do the three things above this will help anyone achieve his or her goal and be a successful college student. Nemeth stated that “Success is doing what you said you would do, consistently, with clarity, focus, ease and grace” (Smith, n.d., Para. 10).
There will never be a number of how many obstacles you will have to go through in life but it is the amount of obstacles that you go through to learn and achieve your goal. With life there will be many things that will try and stop you from reaching the goal but it is the matter of knowing your personal responsibility. First to learn how to cut off the emotional ties and blocking everything out, knowing your flaws and to embrace them, and let your unconscious decisions take place for achieving the goal. Once a person is able to recognize his or her personal responsibilities they then can take the step in becoming a successful college student. A wrong in life is a step closer to learning who you are and how to think beyond what you see. Never look down on what you have done in life or what others have done, use this as a learning experience. Everything that you do in life teaches you a responsibility, it is how you take the obstacle that you are presented find a solution and then achieve the goal you want to achieve.

Responsibility

...Responsibility, It Is Personal Gen/200 July 1, 2013 Lisa Hailey Responsibility, It Is Personal The term Personal responsibility can be defined in many ways, yet there is no one definite definition. To be personally responsible, one would first have to have the ability to be accountable for ones actions. Everyone is raised in their own unique atmosphere, and the levels of responsibility introduced during that upbringing will vary largely. For some people, the concept of personal responsibility will be introduced at a very young age, for example a young child learning to play a musical instrument, or competing in a dance performance. Other children will learn personal responsibility very late in life, usually due to tragedy, or a change in lifestyle. Unfortunately, there really is no set age of requirement for someone to assume personal responsibility, and once the decision has been made to become responsible, not everyone follows through. Personal responsibility can also be referred to as "accountability," defined by Merriam-Websters’ as "the quality or state of being accountable; especially: an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one's actions." (Merriam) If I was to define personal responsibility, I would say that it requires taking control of your destiny, being liable for your actions, and understanding the difference between responsibility, and obligation. To be accountable for one self generally means one would admit to one's......

Responsibility

...Responsibility is being able to acknowledge and recognize that an outcome happened because of a choice. Responsibility is also accepting accountability for a particular choice. Once a person learns self-control, and can take blame rather than place blame, he or she can become a happy and successful person. Usually, everyone is capable of being responsible for his or her choices. As much as we might often see responsibility as a burden, it is one of the most important character traits in life. In most cases, there is no other person to blame for what your life is beside yourself. One example of being responsible is going to bed earlier so that I’m rested for school or work. Responsibility involves self-discipline. In order to get to school and work on time, I have to make sure that I go to bed on time. Being irresponsible is easier, less time consuming, and less challenging. Placing blame on others is always the easiest way out of any situation, and it never fixes a problem. When you allow others to be responsible for you, you give away the power to control your life and the freedom to be who you want to be.When I allow myself to stay up late and talk on the phone, I am not fully rested and often late to school. When I am working as a lifeguard in the summer, not being rested can cause me to not perform my duties to the best of my ability. I am less alert, which puts peoples lives in danger. Responsibility

...Responsibility is the action taken to uphold you on a personal level to let yourself become a better person. Being responsible especially on a personal level is not an easy task as it also deals with ethics, morals and being dependable and the sort in a sense that is a responsibility in its self. My number one responsibility is being responsible for my actions and suffering the consequences if I do something wrong. In the same sense if I do what’s right I will reap the rewards so to say. Morals are normally taught in childhood or in a church setting. Basically it’s like the Bible says, “Whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap.” (KJV). In basic terms it is saying if you do good you will get good rewards; If you do bad you will get bad things in return that’s why being responsible is so important. People need to be able to depend on you but if you’re not a very mature responsible person than whom are people going to trust. “Personal responsibility is the willingness to both accept the importance of standards that society establishes for individual behavior and to make strenuous personal efforts to live by those standards. But personal responsibility also means that when individuals fail to meet expected standards, they do not look around for some factor outside themselves to blame. The demise of personal responsibility occurs when individuals blame their family, their peers, their economic circumstances, or their society for their own failure....

Responsibility

...Personal responsibility includes being responsible for your own actions and well-being. In relation to social roles each person has their own way of doing things while living their own life. The concept is similar for businesses and organizations that work to provide opportunities for others. They have a responsibility in providing products, goods, and services that are fair while serving a purpose. In either scenario, consequences are suffered when failing to do what is right. In many cases, when you neglect to be responsible, others may be affected in ways you may not have anticipated. Responsibility is something most people are taught from an early age. As you get older you take what you learn and use it to your advantage to help you sustain a healthy way of living. This includes taking care of yourself from the inside out while managing emotions and other needs. Sometimes a consequence suffered from a previous event can make it more difficult for an individual to assume personal responsibility on a social scale. But, there are actions that can be avoided yet people will do them anyway knowing potential consequences. Responsibility

...Personal Responsibility Personal responsibility is being accountable for the decisions made in life. The choices we make affect the outcome, and we are liable for those decisions. Smart and rational life choices will result in success in life. Even if life leads down an unsuccessful path, personal blame is the correct choice and not the blame of others. By understanding that concept, one can turn the unsuccessful path into a successful one. The connection of personal responsibility and success is prevalent in many parts of life, from work to personal life to school. Accepting personal responsibility is a key element for success in school. “Responsibility is ‘response-ability’ – the ability to choose your response to any event, even when the event itself is beyond your control”. (Ellis, 2011, p. 171) Elements exist during school that will be beyond control, such as group work and other team members completing their part of the assignment. By studying hard, participating in group work, collaborating with other students, and doing honest assignments, one can work toward personal success of the highest grade achievable. The work put into assignments will reflect the outcome of success. If there is no effort, the grade will reflect the lack of work. “There is another way, called taking responsibility. You can recognize that you choose your grades by choosing your actions. Then you are the source, rather than the result, of the grades you get”. (Ellis,...

Responsibility

...The Value of Responsibility Every individual should have some degree of personal responsibility. The definition of responsibility is “We all have the ability to personally respond – ‘response-ability’ (Sklare, 2005, para. 1). The ability to make decisions serving the interests of others as well as your own is also known as responsibility. First, you should be responsible for yourself before you can be responsible for others. Responsibility and Success Each individual has a certain level of responsibility ensuring good behavior and character regardless of his or her upbringing and certain life experiences. “Individual responsibility also includes being accountable for the degree and level of your health, wealth, success and happiness” (Personal Growth, 2005, para. 1). Brian Tracy (2006) explains: Because you have freedom of choice and because you have chosen each and every circumstance of your life, you are completely responsible for all of your success and failure, your happiness and, your present and future. (para. 5). Motivation, success, happiness, and achievement can be received when an individual is responsible. Responsibilities, roles, and functions are some of the roles adults hold whether as a spouse, employee, student, or parent. Issues will always arise while challenging an individual’s character, emotions, and strengths. Proctor suggests a responsible person “should be able to determine what right or wrong, what's good or bad and what's within your control”...
