Personal Ethical Statement

My preferred ethical lens is Rights and Responsibility lens centering toward rationality. I have the ability to identify my obligations, my duties, as well as, rights in the situation. This ethical lens taught me not to comfort anyone with a problem without going to the head first. Saying, if I was to see a co-worker stealing I should go to the boss or supervisor before confronting the person. The blind spots I have with the inventory are the Relationship and Reputation lens. From the evaluation I learned that I’m more focused on the Rights and Responsibility lens as well as the Results lens, that I am not allowing myself to see and evaluate the bigger picture of a situation. It teaches me that I’m willing to forgive a person for wrong doing whether approving the situation for results. I also learned to focus on the process and the system needed for an ethical organization. The Relationship lens give me the right to voice, notice, and have contracts honored. The strength I gained from this inventory I have the ability to make people happy. According to the Results lens, I tend to be a realist and acknowledge the very human frailties that we all have. I consider my weakness to be in the Reputation lens. The ethical coach thinks I need more understanding with the four core virtues in this lens. These virtues include: (a) Integrity, (b) Contributory Justice, (c) Retributive Justice, and (d) moral courage. Which I disagree with, I maintain a wonderful reputation with many different groups of people. Thinking of becoming a Youth Probation Officer, I would need to improve on the lens, in order to be successful. The values I got from this inventory are that I am rational and sensible. I have the ability to resolve issues for better results. Youth Probation is the profession in which

...Personal Ethical Statement By being in the Air Force, I lived by our core values of "Integrity, Service before Self, and Excellent in all we do" (1997 ). I thought that by living my life to those standards was all that I need it to make good decisions. I was very surprised with the results of the ethical lens exercise. By doing the ethical lens exercise, I was able to know my preferred ethical lens, blind spots, strengths and weaknesses. According to the ethical lens inventory, my preferred ethical lens is the Rights/Responsibilities Lens. This lens identifies individual duties as well as their rights. The Rights/Responsibilities Lens looks at the reason for acting towards a situation and how clearly my duties can be defined(University of Phoenix, 2012). With the example Mark with the computer plagiarism, I felt that making sure that Mark is treated with respect and dignity was the most important action. Mark should have had the opportunity to explain what had occurred with allegation of plagiarism. Once completing the Rights/Responsibilities Lens section, I discovered that it was my responsibility to report the suspicion to the professor first. The Rights/Responsibilities lens makes an individual aware of their personal responsibilities and you have to think with your brain more than your heart. One of the blind spots that I have is that I tend to only look at ethical issues with only one lens, the Rights/Responsibilities Lens. I was not aware of the other...

Personal Ethical Statement

...Sheana McMichael Gen/200 John Carroll January 16, 2014 Personal Ethical Statement Preferred Ethical Lens My preferred lens is Rights - Responsibility and Results Lens. I use my reasoning skills (rationality) and my intuition (sensibility) to help me with each and every situation I may face in life to fulfill my duties while achieving the greatest possible outcome for each individual (autonomy). Blind Spot My Blind spot: Belief that motive justifies method or your own good is good enough. Sometimes when others depend on me, I fail to be accountable when I exercise my free will. When my own needs are satisfied I can become complacent, leaving problems unresolved issues. When I become complacent, everyone else is left to fend for themselves. When I am focused on my good motive, unintentionally harm may cause people to be upset and feel pain because I may not see the problems with my method. Strengths and Weaknesses My Gift: Self-Knowledge and Free will. My gift to the community is balancing responsibility with entrepreneurship. I strongly value autonomy. I am also fiercely self-reliant and accountable – and expect the same of others. I temper doing your duty with noticing what is required for me and others to be happy, and thus avoid both rigidly following your duty and seeking the next fleeting dream. My Risk: Being autocratic or reducing decisions to cost-benefit analysis. Without self-knowledge, I run the risk of becoming autocratic, of requiring everyone...

Personal Ethical Statement

...Personal Ethical Statement A very famous philosopher is known for saying “I know that I know nothing.” Reading this quotation makes the reader analyze his or her day-to-day life, actions, and reactions. Socrates, a person who is considered to be one of the wisest people that have ever been among us, was a Greek philosopher who lived between the years of 469-399 BC. Socrates is unique and well-known for few main highlights in his life, but more than anything else he is known for acquiring the courage to question the human being ethics (Brooks, 2012). I strongly believe that this approach of knowing that I know nothing has helped shape my personal ethic level and integrity. I have different memories, lessons, and stories from my childhood, but recently I find myself thinking about the final stage of what one calls the typical Israeli childhood. My preferred ethical lens is the Reputation Lens. This lens and its values, among others, are about prioritizing the community. I understood a few years ago in the Army that protecting individual rights and the well-being of the community goes hand-in-hand. Unfortunately, by the age of 18 the Israeli youngster gives his or herself to the army and completely devotes this...

...After completing the “Ethical Lens Inventory” I have found that I do not have a preferred lens. It told me that I am able to move between each lens and be able to use the correct tools in order obtain the best situation that is needed. I can really understand this result because I tend to be a person that can reason with almost anyone and I am big on equality for everyone no matter who they are. I also tend to be the person that many people go to when they are stuck in a situation and don’t know the best route to get them out of it. The results from the inventory state that I do not have a blind spot. If I understand this result correctly I would have to agree because when working in a group, being in a situation, or when being asked for advice I am able to keep an open mind and I am able to look at each person’s perspective without any prejudice. As far as strengths go, with the regards of this inventory, I have mentioned some of them already in the previous paragraphs such as equality and being able to keep an open mind so that I can understand each person’s perspective. I also have the strength to come up with solutions that not only appeals to one person, but that also appeals to everyone that is a part of the situation or the whole group. This can also be looked at as a weakness also. According to the results it says that a downside to “able to see everyone else’s perspective is that you can lose track of your own”. This is something that will definitely help me...

Personal Statement: Ethical Obligation After Hurricane Katrina

The water is waist high in some places, and sections of blocks are, many places are inundated with floodwater. While passing by a shop I noticed the plate-glass window had been busted out and inside were dozens of people leaving the shop with handfuls of clothing in their arms. The stolen items that the individuals are carrying out will be written off and covered by the insurance company. • I as an officer have a duty to the community and the citizens to protect the area from crime; as Beccaria stated the context of the crime is not important.
