• Personal Goal: Work on Communication Skills (Verbal and Nonverbal) o Intermediate Goal 1: Listen actively.
 Action Item 1: Suspend judgement, comments, and criticism.
 Action Item 2: Reflect back to the speaker what you understand is being said. o Intermediate Goal 2: Practice conversations with myself—either talking to myself in the mirror or video recording conversations so I can see what others are seeing.
 Action Item 1: Learn to use the video record function of my camera by reading the manual
 Action Item 2: Set aside twenty minutes two times a week to practice using positive tone of voice, facial expression and body language when I speak. o Intermediate Goal 3: Get feedback and track my progress
 Action Item 1: Have face-to-face interaction with someone else and ask them where you did good and where you need more practice.
 Action Item 2: Be conscious of hand gestures, facial grimacing, and bodily/ kinesthetic movement. In this personal goal to develop both verbal and nonverbal communication skills, the very first thing that I must accomplish is to be an active listener. To be an active listener is to engage all of my senses. Making sure that I am present and giving the person that I am speaking with my undivided attention. Showing interest and encouraging the person to express himself or herself completely without interruption, judgement or criticism. In order to complete this goal, I have to be aware that developing effective communication skills is a process that may not occur overnight. Even though I may feel a need to interrupt, it is critical to hear exactly what a person is saying verbally and read accurately the nonverbal cues. There may be some barriers that I have to face to see this completely through. Like age, sex, ethnicity or race, or cultural differences. Being attuned to my own values, beliefs, traditions and customs allows...

A study conducted by the American Board of Nursing Specialties on the perceived value of nursing certifications showed that the attainment of such increases empowerment and feelings of confidence, marketability, and professional credibility (Grief, 2007). Patients view it as proof of excellence; that a nurse is competent, knowledgeable and has a certain amount of expertise. Personal Goals

...Personal Goals Tracy Saunier HCS/301 September 16, 2014 Nancy Shultes Personal Goals Setting goals and achieving them are essential components for personal growth and development. When we set goals for ourselves we never set out thinking failure is an option. There are always barriers to overcome, but overcoming the milestones keep us motivated to achieve what we originally set out to do. My personal goals for the future consist of relocating, followed by a professional promotion into management, and completing my degree in order to have a successful life ahead of me. A personal short term goal of mine is to sell my home. I am preparing my home for resale and hope to place it on the market with a realtor in the next few months. There have been many barriers to overcome to overcome in this preparation. To date, I have replaced the kitchen, bathrooms, air conditioner, carpet, tile, and painted inside and out. There are still a few cosmetic things I need to do such as fixing up the yard and staining the driveway. Once those things are completed I will contact the realtor to obtain an appraisal to see how much I can list my property for. My long term personal goal is downsizing from my current five bedroom home and purchasing a town home. Three of my four children are grown and have moved into their own homes which just leaves myself and my youngest daughter. Living in this large house is no longer necessary nor financially beneficial. With the help of a realtor......

Personal Goals

...As a professional at Deloitte Pvt Ltd three personal goals that I want to achieve are, first is to complete my bachelor of science in business management in 2 years. Next is to become a better writer. Throughout junior college, writing has always been my weakest point and with the amount of writing assignments required at University of Phoenix this needs to be one of my top goals. Finally is to complete every course with no less than a B letter grade. With making the decision to return to school and taking on the considerable financial burden, receiving an average grade would be unacceptable to my standards.      While being employed full-time, The University of Phoenix has the rare opportunity for working professionals to finish courses in just 5 weeks. Having such a compressed time schedule for completing degrees will make it possible to complete my bachelor of science in business management in 2 years as long as I do not deviate from the program. I have decided that my number one priority in life is to complete my degree. I do not have other major commitments outside of work that will distract me from my assignments so staying focused on school will be realistic. Though I cannot predict the future, I do not plan on taking any time off during the two years that would result in interrupting my class schedule. With the option of taking CLEP test this will allow me to “test out” of some of the lower-division courses such as communication arts and humanities. Although this......

...Personal Goals Houa Chang HCS/301 June 17, 2013 Dale Mueller Goals, as we define them, are to have a set outcome. We invent them out of fantasy of how we want our lives to be, we cannot predict our future, so setting goals helps guide us. When we set goals it does not end when we achieve that goal. We accomplish the goal, we immediately look to the next goal, therefore I have set out my professional short and long -term goals. Some of them include professional, personal, and when I plan on completing these goals. I have also taken into consideration barriers that I may come across throughout my journey. Personal Goals Setting goals helps us to determine where we vision ourselves in the future. It encourages us to strive for better opportunities that allow for individual growth. My idea of nursing is to be a patient advocate and use effective communication. Ethnicity, religion, and an individual’s background plays an important role but that is why nursing is so diverse and special. It allows each of us to set out short and long- term goals to improve ourselves. As stated by Cynthia O’Neal, (November 2004). Journal of Nursing Education, 43 (11), 524. “In today’s health care environment, baccalaureate nurses must be prepared to use essential leadership skills to manage and coordinate teams of care.” Professional Short -Term Goal My personal short-term goal is to obtain a bachelor’s of science degree in nursing. I continually set goals and work to accomplish them. My professional short-term and long-term goals are to become Critical Care Registered Nurse credentials and Advanced Nurse Practitioner specializing in critical care, whereas my personal goals are to be physically fit and an amazing mother. While in Washington I enjoyed working as a critical care nurse on a Progressive Care unit and was studying for my PCCN credential. Upon arrival to North Carolina I found myself in an unfamiliar territory. I was in a large community but, with limited hospitals nearby, it made for a difficult time to set myself apart from applicants for the limited critical care positions available. I could demonstrate my clinical and communication skills, as well as my ability to work in a team environment, and to my surprise, obtained an ICU position. I have been working a 34-bed ICU for two years and the vast of knowledge gained has been tremendous. I believe it is time to put my knowledge to the test. I would very much like to have my CCRN credential. I have met the requirements needed to qualify for the examination,......

Personal Goals and Objectives

...PERSONAL GOALS AND OBJECTIVES Over the years, I have worked so hard, but I did not seem to be getting anywhere worthwhile. The main reason as to why I felt this way was because I did not spend enough time thinking about what I wanted to achieve in life, and also I did not set any formal goals that I wanted to accomplish. I came to realize that, it is not easy to set out on a major journey without first knowing your destination. I know goal setting will be a very powerful tool that will help me to think about my future, and also to act as motivation in turning my vision into reality. Also, by setting my personal goals for five years will be very important to me because they will help me to know precisely what I want to achieve, and where I have to concentrate my efforts. After I graduate with my masters’ degree in management information technology, I would like to obtain a challenging position which will allow me to use my information technology skills in assisting my organization's success and future growth, become a business analyst and then grow into my current job as a director of information technology. Personal Goals Paper

...Personal Goals Paper Success begins with goal-setting. Without goals, there is a lack of focus and direction. Many people will often avoid setting goals because it seems too hard. Goal setting is about more than just thinking about them, it is about putting thoughts down on paper to see them. This makes goal setting much easier, especially when writing the goals down is what motivates each individual person. Goal writing must be in time frames, and must be measurable, and at the very least, doable. Setting unrealistic goals can result in the abandonment of all goals; therefore, a good plan needs to be laid-out on paper. This leads to successful goals. Hence, successful goal setting begins with good time management, identifying early potential barriers, and acquiring the needed skills to accomplish each goal. Good time management is the key to successful goal setting and achievement. Taking the time to create, tweak, add, delete or reconstitute goals is the biggest deterrent, and also the largest component for success in goal setting. According to O’Neill (2000), goals need to be set. Writing goals down on a piece of paper can go a long way. Goals should be specific. This means knowing who is involved, what to accomplish, and where it would take place. Next, goals should be measurable. When time frames are met, milestones should be measured and celebrated or reconstructed with a new time frame in mind. Goals should also be timely. A time frame of when a goal should be......

Taking this journey to continue with my education and finish my bachelor’s degree will open many doors for my future, therefore making my professional and personal goals attainable. Professional Goals Going back to school after 15 years is quite a challenge, setting short-term goals is a necessary step to achieving my long-term professional goal. My short-term goal is to go back to school to receive my BSN. To complete the requirements to obtain this degree, I need to find a balance between work and school and learn to manage my time effectively. It is crucial for my success to figure out the best way to balance school obligations while continuing to work full-time and take care of my family responsibilities. One would think that nurses working full-time with family obligations would have a higher level of stress and this in turn would lead to burnout. Research shows if a nurse going back to school has support from their employer and family, the incidences of burnout decrease (Dick & Anderson, 1993). To reach my ultimate goal there are other short-term goals that need to be achieved, such as improving my computer...

Diana's Personal Goals

...Personal Goals Diana Meldon HCS/301 February 12, 2013 Thomas P. Carras, MSEd Personal Goals Setting goals should not be just for school assignments but should be part of one’s everyday life. Developing goals gives people something to strive toward and allows an individual to keep going forward in life. Without goals, it is very easy to give up when things get rough. According to Bishop, Carter, and Kravitis (2011), “Setting goals involves defining what an individual is aiming for in both long-term and short-term time frames. Long-term goals are broader objective an individual wants to achieve over a long period, perhaps a year or more. Short-term goals are smaller steps that move an individual toward a long-term goal, making it manageable and achievable, piece by piece (p. 98). Smart Goals is a tool that helps to focus and create effective goals. Smart Goals is an acronym that consists of five steps: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time frame (Carter, Bishop, & Kravits, 2011). Examples of using these acronyms for writing this paper are Specific – by receiving a B grade in every nursing class, Measurable – by completing each class for a step closer to receiving a degree, Attainable – by commitment and many hours of study, Relevant – achieving a B grade is not unrealistic with commitment and determination; the goal is to think positive and know that I can achieve anything, and Time frame – every five weeks completing a class The following are......
