By the time Mike had gotten out of the guidance counselor’s office, it was time to go home. Mike still couldn’t get over how crazy the day was, he needed to get home to his mother. He hopped onto Bus 98 and it pulled out of the campus, past the varsity baseball field, and turned left on Richardson Rd/Rt. 34. The Decatur Campus was one of two Campuses in the Decatur School District and this one contained a Middle School and a High School, a baseball field, and a football field. As the bus passed the campus Mike sat up straight and looked out the window. Then, a thought popped into his mind, turning the whole situation upside down. If Ryan was severely injured, would that mean Mike will play in the game Friday?

On one side it was awesome! But on the other side, there was this pressure bearing on him that if he didn’t play well, this team could lose. Mike has practiced, on his shot, his stride, his stick handling, just about everything to get ready for this moment, he knew he couldn’t let his nerves defeat his skill. Coach Rich then came into the room and made sure everybody was dressed. Mike strapped on his helmet and put on his gloves, he was ready. Coach Rich gave a 10 minute speech before the game about how to give 110% every shift, and how important it would be to win puck battles if they were going to win. At the end of the speech, the Bulldogs gathered together in a circle. This is it, Mike thought. Time to show them what you’re made of. The Bulldogs put their hands in the middle.
“1, 2, 3, Bulldogs!” They yelled, and they marched out of the locker and on to the ice.
Immediately, Mike felt alive as he skated circles around their half of the ice as they banged their sticks in unison. He looked over the to the other side of the rink at the Taylorville Tornadoes, and changed his thoughts about the game. He suddenly didn’t feel the need for his own stats, he just wanted his team to win the
