I got my first microphone for Christmas when I was twelve. I set it up along with my late 2000’s webcam, and a bootleg copy of screen recording software. I spent countless hours staying up late at night editing audio levels in Audacity and removing background noise from nasally monologues. It was bad. Eventually, I saved up to buy a nicer microphone, one better designed for voice. There was a clear rise in production value as time went on and my interest in creating something that I would want to watch or listen to increased as well. Eventually, I realized that even the most dedicated YouTuber doesn’t reach success when they’re an overweight 12 year old. In high school, these same ideals stayed with me. It’s very important to me that I make content that I, myself, would watch. If it isn’t funny or interesting, I try again. It’s been truly a learning experience after all these years to pick-up videography and audio recording skills through interest and self-determination, as there have been few ways to learn these skills through the current school curriculum. YouTube, as well as my small community of friends who have a similar vested interest in audio-video work, has been the only way to learn exactly how to use a phantom power supply with a condenser microphone when my computer’s audio card doesn’t provide a high enough voltage for the microphone to be recognized by my computer. I was implored to look into going to colleges in my home-state of North Carolina, but none of the colleges I liked had the same majors and programs I’m looking to get out of Full Sail University. I would have ben forced to consider changing majors in order to go to a North Carolina
