Personal Narrative: Moving To Cameroon

I live in England, but we moved to Dubai because my family wanted to live together. Since my Dad's always the priority – we moved to Dubai. It was all great. Apparently, the school we went to was crap – which it was. So one my parents be like, "We've been thinking about moving to Cameroon. Thoughts?" And it seemed okay. Until we found out that it wouldn't take 3 months to build the house. It would take 6-9 months. It's even harder now.

My Dad needed a job, so he went to England – with my sister, who's education was practically ruined due to Dubai and Cameroon.

I remember my Mother saying time and time again, that she didn't want to stay here whilst my Dad went to England for a long time, whilst we stayed here. Well look where we are now? …show more content…
My dad never listens. He's always right. I don't go outside that much anymore, where as in England I always did. In Dubai, I could go out onto my balcony. I could get walk up to Cisty's to buy some food.

I was comfortable.

Here I've never felt so out of place. Cameroon is a place that I would visit when I had my own home – the house we're trying to build. I would never live here, under these conditions.
Boarding school isn't even certain because my dad's stubborn. He just wants me to 'relive' his childhood. I know that's what he wants – he wants me to get 'The Experience'.

Because you care right, Dad? It's not like when we went to the village we were used us flipping maids to do the dishes and cook. You made Mum cut a chicken although you know so well that she's vegan.

You're always trying to impress everyone in your family. You have so much flipping pressure that they put on you. Your Mother, your brothers and sister.

Did you ever see how uncomfortable we were? You break promises. In the village, we were supposed to do so many things as a family. Yet you abandoned us and went off with your brothers. For the entire trip. I loathed you at that point and you didn't even try to make it better.

You're honestly, so sexist. I don't think it's you – it's you getting influence by your …show more content…
Anja probably knows.

I'm not popular like Anja and Mum say. I'll be honest with you – I have 'a lot' of friends. They're like decorations though. I'm only truly friends with around 5 of them.
I love Gaming.

I actually have OCD. It's quite mild though.

I love sports.

I have a crush on Cara Delevingne, Dylan O'Brien and Colton Haynes.

Notice how this part is all about me.
Not you.

I just want you to know, that I just want to live my life. I'm a part of a new generation – I agree with you, that we can change Cameroon – Africa and make it better than it already is. I agree with you on so many things.

But I just want to have my life back.
We're having money problems right now, since Mum has to take care of the things in Cameroon, the house in England. We're not rich.

I just want to live my life and live in England. Go to boarding school. Mummy doesn't actually know about this e-mail/message/letter. I sent it on my own accord.
I don't think I'll regret sending you this. Because for the first time in my life – I've practically just told you what I think and opened up to you a little.

But – you've gotten enough pressure

Sci., 8(1): 23-27 (2004) Exploring the Forms of Child Abuse in Nigeria: Efforts at Seeking Appropriate Preventive Strategies Ifeyinwa Annastasia Mbakogu CHILD ABUSE IN THE NIGERIAN SOCIETY It may be difficult discussing the issue of child abuse in Nigeria without eliciting the African perspective. This is because first as Africans (and later developing nations), there exists a common heritage that seem to signify that similarities in culture or traditions may indicate a commonality of perceptions toward issues regarded as child abuse and eventually, similarities in strategies for addressing the problem. Moving into the African or Nigerian Perspective It is quite a formidable task formulating an effective strategy for the prevention of child abuse. To tackle this problem Marzouki (2002) made an interesting comparison between prevention strategies for child abuse or handicaps and medical management: What measures should be taken to avoid the so-called ‘street children’ pheno-menon? The preventive measures in handicap are different from medical management in type and level. For instance, when a child has a cerebral palsy due to prematurity, he would need drugs and physiotherapy. But preventing prematurity would need, among other things, health education and pregnancy monitoring. Like cerebral palsy, or seizures, sexually abused street children are merely a symptom, but the causes are derived from elsewhere. Of course it [is] the symptoms that have...

...it), qualitative research is not a unified field of theory and practice. On the contrary, a plethora of viewpoints, sometimes diametrically opposed to one another, exist on the subject. Scholars regularly debate about what qualitative research is, how and why it should be conducted, how it should be analyzed, and in what form it should be presented. In fact, fundamental and often heated disagreements about philosophical assumptions and the nature of data exist among qualitative researchers. We don’t pretend to be able to solve any of these controversies. Nor do we suggest one approach or viewpoint is superior to another in the grand scheme of things. How one approaches qualitative research, and research in general, depends on a variety of personal, professional, political, and contextual factors. Ultimately, there is no right or wrong way of conducting a qualitative research project. Nevertheless, some approaches and methods are more conducive to certain types of qualitative inquiry than are others. A key distinction in this regard is the difference between pure and applied research. It is the latter of these—applied research—for which the contents of this book will be most (though certainly not...

Football, Violence and Social Identity

...Downloaded by [University of Ottawa] at 14:44 24 March 2014 Football, Violence and Social Identity Downloaded by [University of Ottawa] at 14:44 24 March 2014 As the 1994 World Cup competition in the USA again demonstrates, football is one of the most popular participant and spectator sports around the world. The fortunes of teams can have great significance for the communities they represent at both local and national levels. Social and cultural analysts have only recently started to investigate the wide variety of customs, values and social patterns that surround the game in different societies. This volume contributes to the widening focus of research by presenting new data and explanations of football-related violence. Episodes of violence associated with football are relatively infrequent, but the occasional violent events which attract great media attention have their roots in the rituals of the matches, the loyalties and identities of players and crowds and the wider cultures and politics of the host societies. This book provides a unique cross-national examination of patterns of order and conflict surrounding football matches from this perspective with examples provided by expert contributors from Scotland, England, Norway, the Netherlands, Italy, Argentina and the USA. This book will be of interest to an international readership of informed soccer and sport enthusiasts and students of sport, leisure, society, deviance and culture. Richard Giulianotti, Norman...

...IGOROTS * Home * IGOROT SONGS * IGOROT DANCE * IGOROT TRADITIONS * MONEY ON THE MOUNTAIN IGOROT TRADITIONS IGOROT TRADITIONS When we talk about Igorot identity and culture, we also have to consider the time. My point is that: what I am going to share in this article concerning the Igorot culture might not be the same practiced by the Igorots of today. It has made variations by the passing of time, which is also normally happening to many other cultures, but the main core of respect and reverence to ancestors and to those who had just passed is still there. The Igorot culture that I like to share is about our practices and beliefs during the "time of Death". Death is part of the cycle of life. Igorots practice this part of life cycle with a great meaning and importance. Before the advent of Christianity in the Igorotlandia, the Igorots or the people of the Cordilleran region in the Philippines were animist or pagans. Our reverence or the importance of giving honor to our ancestors is a part of our daily activities. We consider our ancestors still to be with us, only that they exist in another world or dimension. Whenever we have some special feasts (e.g., occasions during death, wedding, family gathering, etc.), when we undertake something special (like going somewhere to look for a job or during thanksgiving), we perform some special offer. We call this "Menpalti/ Menkanyaw", an act of butchering and offering animals. During these times we call them...
