My Journey to Tenure
At a very young age, whenever I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, my response was always the same, I wanted to become a nurse and nurse sick people back to health. While my son was still in elementary school, in the third grade, I decided to go after my dream and enrolled in nursing school. At the same time, I realized that my son was very happy about school. He talked about his teacher with such joy and all the assignments he had to complete for her. That year he insisted to be taken to the library every week because he had to read twenty-five books for the school year. He became an avid reader and all he could talk about was his teacher Mrs. Schwarz. She was a god to him and her words were etched in

Studies in Professional Life and Work

...STUDIES IN PROFESSIONAL LIFE AND WORK Mike Hayler University of Brighton, UK Autoethnography, Self-Narrative and Teacher Education examines the professional life and work of teacher educators. In adopting an autoethnographic and life-history approach, Mike Hayler develops a theoretically informed discussion of how the professional identity of teacher educators is both formed and represented by narratives of experience. The book draws upon analytic autoethnography and life-history methods to explore the ways in which teacher educators construct and develop their conceptions and practice by engaging with memory through narrative, in order to negotiate some of the ambivalences and uncertainties of their work. The author’s own story of learning, embedded within the text, was shared with other teacher-educators, who following interviews wrote self-narratives around themes which emerged from discussion. The focus for analysis develops from how professional identity and pedagogy are influenced by changing perceptions and self-narratives of life and work experiences, and how this may influence professional culture, content and practice in this area. Autoethnography, Self-Narrative and Teacher Education Autoethnography, Self-Narrative and Teacher Education STUDIES IN PROFESSIONAL LIFE AND WORK The book includes an evaluation of how using this approach has allowed the author to investigate both the subject and method of the research with implications for ...

It should be mandatory reading for anyone interested in engaging a company with big ideas who understands that leaders live and die by the quality of what they say.” —Richard Stone, story analytics master, i.d.e.a.s “A primary role of leaders is to create and maintain meaning for their organizations. “the Messiahship of Jesus from Nicodemus’ Perspective; According to John”

...INTRODUCTION:………………………………………………………………………………..1 BODY:……………………………………………………………………………………………..2 CONCLUSION:……………………………………………………..........................................…12 BIBLIOGRAPHY…………………………………………………………………………………13 THESIS STATEMENT In John’s gospel account, it is clear from the first words of chapter 3, that Nicodemus sees Jesus as something special, but he is never recorded as saying anything confirmatory with regard to this, much as the disciples did on many occasions, whether the Lord was asking them to or not. INTRODUCTION Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus is very clearly a teaching moment and John Points out that Jesus takes full advantage as the Christ, to teach Nicodemus the old dog, some new tricks. We will explore John’s descriptive journey the Teacher of Israel learning more than he could have hoped to from the Teacher of all teachers. In the fourth gospel, John gives us everything we need to know about Nicodemus in the first verse of chapter three, but he does not say ok, thanks for coming, you’ve been a great crowd. No, he continues on to give us more detail in the account of Jesus’ meeting with this very spiritual, yet lost man. The fourth gospel writer calls Nicodemus a “Man of the Pharisees”, and “Ruler of the Jews”. We can make certain assumptions based on the historical details we know of the Pharisees, and how the Jewish ruling class behaved toward each other, their people and God. I completely agree with...

...book and because we enjoy talking and writing about pedagogy. Yet when we recall the discussions we’ve had with colleagues about instructor’s manuals over the years, two unnerving comments stick with us: “I don’t find them much help”; and (even worse) “I never look at them.” And, if the truth be told, we were often the people making such points! With these statements in mind, we have done some serious soul-searching about the texts that so many teachers—ourselves included—frequently malign or ignore. As we have considered our quandary, we have come face-to-face with the central paradox that characterizes the genre: Teaching manuals tend to be distant, mechanical, impersonal, and lifeless, when in fact good teaching is immediate, flexible, personal, and lively. In this manual, therefore, we have attempted to communicate to fellow teachers...

Adapting to Change: the Value of Change Information and Meaning-Making

...Received 10 January 2013 Available online 19 February 2013 Keywords: Adaptability Adaptive attitudes Adaptive behavior Change information Meaning-making Organisational change a b s t r a c t The purpose of this 3-wave study is to examine the micro process of how employees adapt to change over time. We combined Conservation of Resources theory with insights from the organizational change literature to study employees in a Dutch police district undergoing reorganization. A model was tested where employee adaptability, operationalized by the presence of resources, predicts individual adaptive attitudes as well as adaptive behavior over time. Change information was included as a contextual change resource and meaning-making as a personal change resource. The research design allowed for examining longitudinal relationships by capturing data (1) before (Time 1), (2) during (Time 2), and (3) after change implementation (Time 3). We expected adaptability before and during change implementation to predict adaptive attitudes and adaptive behavior...
