You never stop learning in life. Continually needing to learn during your career in any form is never going to end. Being able to learn through any experience for a future job is important. This one of the reasons why I selected an LBC experience that collaborated with my internship here at Western New England University. I worked as a service desk technician that focused on documentation, capturing and deploying images. I also learned about projectors and how they work with the systems in classrooms. I chose this experience for my LBC and my internship because I wanted to focus on something that would help me understand my future employment. This experience has given me the opportunity to help others and interact with helping others and being able to interact with a client like I would in jobs in the actual field. …show more content…
Having the ability to work quickly on your feet and help clients as soon as possible is a key learning experience. In the beginning of the internship, I helped clients or professors with projector issues as soon as I could. Most of the time the things that go wrong with the projectors are almost always an issue with synchronization with the Extron box. An Extron box is a system that allows you to use different technologies with one another by using an Extron box as a switch. In this case we are using Extron Boxes to connect to the computer with a projector in almost all classrooms. When a projector is not syncing properly, then we need to restart the Extron box and click the switch. With that it would fix the issue. This type of architecture relates to the layout of the buildings on campus that was more focused with my IT360 class. We focused on the networking and the layouts of the buildings and how they should be built for and with a certain type of network. So the Extron system is part of the network architecture that we studied and included in our

The Media

...The media Anne O’Keeffe Historical overview of media discourse ‘The media’ is a very broad term, encompassing print and broadcast genres, that is anything from newspaper to chat show and, latterly, much more besides, as new media emerge in line with technological leaps. The study of ‘the media’ comes under the remit of media studies from perspectives such as their production and consumption, as well as their aesthetic form. The academic area of media studies cuts across a number of disciplines including communication, sociology, political science, cultural studies, philosophy and rhetoric, to name but a handful. Meanwhile, the object of study, ‘the media’, is an ever-changing and ever-growing entity. The study of ‘the media’ also comes under the radar of applied linguistics because at the core of these media is language, communication and the making of meaning, which is obviously of great interest to linguists. As Fairclough (1995a: 2) points out, the substantively linguistic and discoursal nature of the power of the media is a strong argument for analysing the mass media linguistically. Central to the connection between media studies and studies of the language used in the media (media discourse studies) is the importance placed on ideology. A major force behind the study of ideology in the media is Stuart Hall (see, for example, Hall 1973, 1977, 1980, 1982). Hall (1982), in his influential paper, notes that the study of media (or ‘mass communication’) has had...
