The Grant family has a long, interesting history with religion. To begin learning about it, I first interviewed my dad. My dad told me that he was raised strictly Southern Baptist. They feared their maker like a good souther family, prayed, and worshiped him whenever they could. However, church always seemed to take a second place to the work. My dad said that they rarely went to church because there was always work to do on Sunday. Even on Christmas, my dad remembers having to wake up early to go feed the cows before he could even open his presents. While my dad’s family didn’t have the best Sunday school attendance, they did love God. Before eating every meal, whether a big family supper my grandmother had prepared all day or a can of vienna sausages and some saltines in the middle of the hay field, they would always pray and give thanks to God for all that he had done. My dad said that once a week the whole family, him, his brother, his sister, his mom, and his dad, would listen to my grandfather, the man I’m named after, read from the old, black, leather-bound bible that sat on the mantle above the fire place. He was raised in the same Southern Baptist home as my father but he turned out a little different. When he was in college at Auburn University, he met a woman that would later become his wife. This woman was a Mormon and she succeeded in converting my uncle into a full fledged member of the cult. Some people say that Mormonism is a branch of Christianity, but I know first hand that this is not true. They disagree with Christians on the fundamental point that Jesus is the only way to heaven. I was not able to interview my Uncle about his conversion because our two families are no longer on speaking terms, but I was able to gather this knowledge from other members of my
