Professional Development Plan
Jeff Simonic
LDR/531 – Organizational Leadership
July 14, 2014

Professional Development Plan My goal in this paper is to develop a plan that will address the characteristics of Learning Team A while designating myself as a team leader. If the plan is effective, it can be used to determine the needs of the learning team. It can also be used as a tool for the members to assess their skills, strengths, areas needing improvement, and the resources needed to help them reach their career goals. Recommendations for all team members are based on the results from the "The DISC Platinum Rule Behavioral Style Assessment" that each team member completed. Developing includes several managerial practices that are used to increase a subordinate’s skills and facilitate job adjustment and career advancement. Key component behaviors include mentoring, coaching, and providing developmental opportunities. (Yukl, G. 2013).

Evaluation of the Individual Team Members Renata Roman and John Coakley's self-assessment characterized them in "The Cautious Style" group. More specifically, Roman and Coakley fell into class "Ci" described as "The Assessor" known for accomplishing goals with excellence. (Alessandra, 1996-2014). The style has a tendency to have strong opinions about groups and people that do not agree with them. The strengths of this class are dependability, problem solving and planning. Weaknesses are critical, unresponsive and perfectionist. Cautious styles are task focused and slower paced and do not prefer involvement. Cautious style is also very inquisitive about details, prefer an objective and like to surround themselves around an intellectual work environment. Other areas this style has a tendency to go to is wanting to be right which causes them to rely on data collection and to work slowly and on their own. Cautious style has good problem solving skills and wants to know the process of how something works. Ty Cornmesser's self-assessment characterized him in "The Steadiness Style" group. More specifically, Cornmesser fell into class "Sd" described as "The Go-Getter" known for a desire for a steady flow of more accomplishments. (Alessandra, 1996-2014). The style has a tendency of being direct in task-focused situations and thinking through projects resulting in good planning skills. The strengths of this class are listening, teamwork, follow through and reliability. Weaknesses are slow to begin action, oversensitive and poor at goal setting. Steadiness styles prefer close, personal relationships and dislike interpersonal conflict. Steadiness style has good counseling skills and yearns for security and belonging. They are also cohesive with others, work slowly and have a tendency to gain support from others. Jeff Simonic's self-assessment characterized him in "The Interactive Style" group. More specifically, Simonic fell into class "Ic" described as "The Impresser" known for winning with flair. (Alessandra, 1996-2014). This class has a tendency of judging people by their ability to make things happen and wanting to do things in the best way possible. The strengths of this class are motivating, enthusiastic, persuading and optimistic. Weaknesses are poor follow through, careless, disorganized and exaggeration. Interactive style does not like being alone, enjoys involvement and decisions are spontaneous. Individuals in this category tend to be dreamers, have good persuasive skills and jump from one activity to the next. Interactive style has a goal of recognition and fear of social rejection.
Evaluation of the Team Based on evaluating the disc assessments of all team members, I feel we have a very diverse group. Our team members fell into three of the four behavioral styles described in the above member evaluations. The strengths of the team members are encouraging a good plan of action, problem solving and follow-through. Another commonality which is promising is all styles are either reliable or dependable and optimistic to complete tasks. A concern based on the assessments is the cautious style prefers to work alone, which we have two members in that category of the four. A final concern with the group is three of the four members have a tendency to work slow and over think tasks which could be a problem on assignments that require a quick turnaround. My skill that could hurt the overall success of the team based on the assessment is disorganization. This is a trait that all other members in the team are very strong in and will be addressed from my standpoint.

Leadership Strategy I feel that my leadership strategy will need to revolve around my interpersonal strengths and ability to work in a team environment. The other members prefer to either work alone or have close relationships with others which could result in a conflict. My initial strategy will be to conduct a focus group meeting with all members centering on the importance and benefits of working together to achieve all goals within our team. Communication and sharing of information between team members will be the key to our success on accomplishing tasks in a timely manner. I will also focus on members having to accept constructive criticism which will make all of us better at the end of our team journey. My assessment indicated my style is of a dreamer, and I will persuade my team to dream with me and shoot for the stars on all assignments. I will also look for input from my team members on my weaknesses identified. A good leader must be able to build on the strengths of other team members. You have to put aside your ego and be able to listen to others no matter what level they may be. This will show all team members that I am open to the thoughts and ideas of everyone and make them feel comfortable to approach me with any concern. I feel this will enhance our overall relationship as a team and be the main ingredient for success.
Conclusion
In summary, Learning Team A has very diverse styles based on the disc assessments conducted by the team members. These styles will enable the team to accomplish tasks in a timely manner while achieving the overall goals. My leadership style will revolve around teamwork and communication which is the pillar of success in organizations which have been around for years. I have confidence Learning Team A will not only meet your expectations, but exceed them based on our ability to work together.

...LO 1 1.1 Self-managed learning is a way that individuals organise themselves and find different ways in learning things whether in the community or at work. It is also about setting out the goals for the learning by evaluating the purpose for learning and ways to achieve those goals. People always learn new things, for example, the culture of different people, behaviour, personality, perceptions and so on. People can learn things from college, through friends, personal and other people’s experience, books to mention but few. It is therefore important to manage one’s learning as it has huge impacts in one’s life. Some of the positive impacts include: Self-managed learning gives people the opportunity to come up with their own strategy in learning. For instance, I have a goal to get a distinction on my assignment, so my strategy will be to research, reference and write well my work and submit it on time to achieve my goal. However a way to influence children’s personal learning is through theories. The theories I am going to be talking about is Kolb’s and honey and Mumford’s theory. The reason being is because it helps teachers and other health and social care setting workers to understand the needs of individuals, so they can help them. Honey and Mumford’s theory is a theory which was one of the first to be developed. It was developed in 1982. And was known as tor the four learning styles which were known as the following, theorists, pragmatists, reflectors, activists. This also provides insights of various strengths and weakness I possess and the various things which I want to develop during the course of my HND programme both in respect to my personal and professional development. It also gives out steps of how to achieve the same. Introduction I believe in the philosophy of improving myself as much as I can and in whatever way possible. The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), which is a professional body for all those concerned with the management and development of people define HRM as the design, implementation and maintenance of strategies to manage people for optimum business performance including the development of policies and processes to support these strategies. (Management and Organisation behaviour). 1.1 Explain the factors to be considered when planning the recruitment of individuals to work in Health and Social Care: De Cenzo, D.A & Robins,S.P (2002), define recruitment as ‘’the process of discovering potential candidates for actual or anticipated organizational vacancies. Or from another viewpoint, it is a linking activity- bringing together those with jobs to fill and those seeking jobs’’. This means, recruitment is the process of searching for persons who possibly may be appropriate to fill vacancies and to persuade them to apply for the vacancies. There are so many factors to be measured to warrant that recruitment processes are valuable in attracting suitable candidates. Thus: The Employment Laws, The Job requirements, which are understood by carrying out a job/role analysis, the organization’s goals and strategies, to mention but a few.
