The majority of people that I come in contact with over time has been able to balance home, work and school. I chose these three areas due to my personal reflection on where I started in life and will end up in the future. I believe that my beginning was very hard especially losing my father at age 4, then having to live with different people so that I would not be put in a foster home. I will say that I have been blessed knowing that even though things were not always good, I realize my life was not in my control though a part of something bigger than myself. Psychology is defined as an academic and applied discipline that involves the scientific study of mental functions and behaviors. Psychology adjustment is the concept of positive mental health which refers to an individual's state of mind and overall well-being.
After I went from place to place, I started to really be more independent in taking care of myself. I did not want anyone’s help, just allow me to do everything on my own. I really looked at life as you have a long time to live on this earth so take your time. I believe that when really go through situations, it just makes you stronger for worse issues in life. Now, I have learned a lot about myself and how I can handle circumstances as they happen. I have also learned how to prioritize home, work, school, and recreation. One of the things that happened recently is my Mom got ill and was submitted to the hospital for a week. I knew that I had to take care of her, work, school and church activities.
The way I handled all of these situations was to first realize I am only one person and taking one day at a time would be the best step. Then, I thought about my hours at work, going to school one night during the week. I also knew doing...

...Personal reflections are characterized as learning through experience in gaining new insights and changed perception of self and practices. Reflection can be a difficult experience without the support and guidance of an expert (Johns, 2004). This personal reflection presents an exciting opportunity for me to consider how successful my placement in the intermediate care has been in terms of my own personal learning. By reflecting on the positive aspects of the placement, I will be able to make sense of my personal learning and apply what I have learnt into future careers. At the beginning of my placement I knew very little about intermediate care or services it provided regarding alternatives to hospital care for elderly patients. In preparation for my placement, I visited a local health center and spoke to a therapist who agreed to send me information about intermediate care service. I familiarized myself with the services that are offered by intermediate care, for instance in house provisions and therapist group run services. This helped to alleviate some of my anxiety about the placement that I experienced during my first week, reflecting on my experiences has helped. During my placement I was allocated a mentor who was a knowledgeable and professional nurse. ...Invidious comparison and vicarious traumatization are two things that most people will experience in their lifetime. I know for I personally have experienced both during my 28 years of life. Invidious comparison and vicarious traumatization can both be damaging to yourself and other people involved. That is why I'd like to take the time to explain a few important topics on invidious comparison and vicarious traumatization, such as; how to stop invidious comparison, identify strategies that I currently use to avoid vicarious traumatization in my personal life, how those strategies will help me avoid vicarious traumatization as a human service worker and what strategies I could develop to avoid it as well. Every person suffers at some point in their life through problems, injuries, or deaths of loved ones or suffer through traumatic events. We as human services providers will listen to many traumatic events, problems, and suffering stories of the clients that help. Some stories may be worse than others and harder to listen too. Vicarious trauma is the process in which the professional has gone through a shift on the way they see themselves, others and the world do to listening too or getting attached to the client traumatic experience (Kress, 2004).
