Personal Responsibility

What exactly is personal responsibility? I believe that personal responsibility is to make sure my priorities and assignments will be complete on time and turned in before the due date. Even though I have a son, I may not have much time to do assignments or studying, learning as much as I can is what is important to me so I would be able to find a job for my family. Using personal responsibility in education helps me by making sure everything will be complete and on time and I look through my materials for that week. I want to make sure I provide the best for my family with the education I am receiving. Going back to school is a huge responsibility because I believe and want a better job so I will be able to provide a better life. I also want to make sure that I still will be able to enjoy my life by hanging out with friends and make the best for my family, besides working all the time after I complete my bachelor’s degree. Making sure I am going to be successful in college is making sure I have the willingness to learn and have an appetite for knowledge. Once I have the willingness to learn everything in college it will become easy for me to want to learn more. Going to college is taking responsibility to want to succeed and wanting to find a better job for my family. Success at anything whether it is school or work takes practice and work. If I commit to becoming successful in college I will eventually achieve it. In this article they asked a question, “What can you do to increase your opportunities for success in school and in life?” ("What you don't get out of a college education: Personal success skills necessary to succeed in school and in life," July). In answer to this question, I would believe that achieving my success in school and in life would let me increase more opportunities, maybe in a very good career. If I continue to be successful, I will know how hard it will be but achieving success will be one thing that I will strive for. If I want to be successful in what I do I have to commit to three things. I need to make sure that I am the one who wants to take personal responsibility for my success. I am the only one who can make sure of that. If I slack off, my success will be in jeopardy. The second thing I need to do is set high goals and doing whatever is possible to reach them and achieve them. Last, things happen; as I go through life, I need to make sure I react positively to the negative setbacks and move toward my goals in education. Successful people take personal responsibility for their lives, careers, and success (Success Common Sense [Success Common Sense-Blog], 2009). I want to succeed in college. I have already done it once by achieving my associates’ degree but I have 33 or so months until I can get my bachelors’ degree. To succeed in college, I need to make sure I am focusing on schoolwork and assignments. Making sure I complete my assignments on time and before the due date is something that I am striving for. I want to make sure I am working well in my learning team and if someone does need any help that I want to make sure if someone does need help that I help them. I need to have a plan on when I should do homework and when I should ask questions. With an infant son, I cannot have an exact plan or schedule to do other then when he is sleeping or being watched by his father. I do homework when I have time around his schedule. I believe that the relationship between personal responsibility and succeeding in college is very similar. If I am responsible and make sure that my homework is complete and turned in before the due date, I will succeed in my college courses. I need to make sure I prioritize my schoolwork and I am hoping my learning group will help me in this course and future courses. I need to make sure I have time to get my school work done and study for big tests to help me succeed in my education. I need to make sure I have time to study for my courses and to learn everything that I need to learn to be successful in school. Making sure I have time to do my schoolwork and studying is a form of personal responsibility in education. Personal responsibility in education helps students to be successful in courses. Responsibility in education is making sure that homework assignments are complete and turned in on time. I need to make sure that all my priorities are in order for school. The assignments that will take the longest to complete are the ones that I should start first. Being clear on which items in the assignments these are is important. In order for me to be successful in my college education, I need to make sure that I stay on top of my assignments. Wanting to be successful in college will make me strive to do all that I can to make that happen. Providing personal responsibility in my education is making sure that education will be one of the top three things that I am going to be responsible for. Of course, I know it is going to be hard with a young son, but I want to make sure I am providing personal responsibility in my education yet willing to do everything it takes to make a better life for my son, my significant other, and myself. I need to make sure I can succeed in college, so I can provide the best for my family. Personal responsibility will help me succeed in college making sure every assignment is complete on time and turned in. I would also want to succeed in my learning team also. Being responsible in my team will also help me succeed in my course.

...Personal Responsibility Essay Donald Upward GEN/200 January 15, 2014 Dan Barbara, MAEd Personal Responsibility Essay Personal responsibility is the necessity and willingness to complete tasks in a timely manner, and it is essential to achieving success in college. The key to this is exercising careful control over one’s time, finances, and health. There are benefits to engaging in responsible behavior along with negative consequences for engaging in irresponsible behavior. Two areas of improvement as a college student are procrastination avoidance and time management. Staying well ahead of deadlines is one effective strategy to help manage time. According to Hersh and Geary Schneider (2005), “Personal responsibility and social responsibility involve the moral obligation to both self and community, and both forms of responsibility rely upon such virtues as honesty, self-discipline, respect, loyalty, and compassion.” (p. 8) As far as the student experience is concerned, the three main factors of time, finances, and health govern personal responsibility. A deficiency of any of these will have a detrimental effect on the chances of success. If one does not put aside enough time or is constantly procrastinating, they will likely miss deadlines and consistently will turn in work that is lacking in refinement and detail. This can lead to the belief that just scraping by with barely adequate work is acceptable. Similarly, if one does not do what is necessary to...

...Personal Responsibility Essay Rough Draft Unika Miles Gen/200 December 9th, 2013 Professor David Schemerhorn Personal responsibility for me is knowing what is expected of me within my personal life as well as knowing what is expected of me to succeed in school. Responsibility means taking care of my duties and being accountable for my actions. I understand that I have to take responsibility for everything that happens in my life and for everything that I want to happen that does not happen in my life. I also know that all actions have consequences whether they are good or bad. If I do not know and understand my personal responsibilities then it will be hard for me to prioritize what needs to be done and when. Personal responsibility is making sure that my kids are in good health because as their mother it is my responsibility as well as my duty. I have to make sure that they have the proper essentials that they need for everyday living. If my kids are not taken care of then I can not move forward in taking care of other things that need to be done. I have to make sure that my bills are paid to provide for me and my family. If the bills are not paid then we will not have the necessities that we need, like electricity, water, and heat. Also I have to make sure that me and my family have groceries because if we don‘t then we will not receive the nourishment that we need to remain healthy. Rodriguez Personal Responsibility and Educational Success In order to effectively accomplish personal responsibilities, one must believe in self and make positive choices in life. It is important to take control of personal actions by having confidence and discipline. When remaining true to self and confident; the outcomes in life and college success become rewarding. Wikipedia defines personal responsibility as the idea that human beings choose, instigate, or otherwise cause their own actions. A corollary idea is that because individuals cause actions, they can be held morally accountable or legally liable. However, many define it as an internal factor that affects each human being. It drives thoughts which lead to words, which influences choices, which determine actions, which form habits, which develops lifestyles, which ultimately establishes destiny. Personal responsibility depends on each individual. The achievement of goals depends on many different factors, but the main one is to be aware of the responsibility it has in lives, on the well-being of the individuals, and personal happiness.  One should take personal responsibility for their own actions so they can lead themselves to a pathway of success, how one decides to manage their time between their personal responsibilities, and their college success is a major factor in achieving one's goals. ...Personal Responsibility Essay Gen 200 July 28, 2014 Personal Responsibility Essay “Being thoughtful and taking responsibility serves you well, as your accountability is one measure of your success. In our professional and personal lives, most of us typically take responsibility for our actions, words, and attitudes. An occasional “oops” can rapidly put us on a radar that we'd prefer not to be on, irrevocably annoy our student population, or cause a family rift.”  (Zavod, 2014) Personal responsibility is a choice we all have to face when deciding to do the things that will help our future or the lives of those in our care, like my personal responsibility to succeed at college to better support my family. For me, that “oops” could have drastic impacts on our family’s financial well-being. Each person has their own definition of personal responsibility determined by their own background. If one includes financial success in their definition of personal responsibility they need a plan in place for how to achieve financial success. Naturally, there is then a large correlation between personal responsibility, financial success, and the success one has in their education. Each person should have a plan to complete their education and how their own personal responsibility fits in with that goal. Merriam Webster says responsibility is “something that you should do because it is morally right” (Merriam-Webster, 2014). For me going back to school is a personal responsibility...

...Personal Responsibility Essay Juan Valdez GEN/200 April 23, 2014 Donna Cooper Personal Responsibility Essay Personal responsibility is a skill and learned behavior that can make or break a person’s success. The response of how one reacts to their own personal responsibility is a direct correlation of their happiness and achievements in life. People cannot be held responsible for experiences they are brought to, only the feelings and thoughts they express when faced with those circumstances. Having the discipline and understanding of responsibility not only helps a person get far in their college career, but also has many other benefits. When a student makes their own choices and decisions, they are open to learning from mistakes they have made. As the Author According to Hubbard (1856-1915) “The greatest mistake you can make in life is to be continually afraid you will make one” (p2). The college life is all about learning who you are and how you fit in the world. Without making mistakes, one will never truly know their full potential. Also, if students are constantly living by what others tell them to do, they are not given the benefit of learning why there was a certain result and how to change it when faced with a similar situation in the future. With learning and taking responsibility, a sense of trust is obtained from others around you. Knowing students are reliable and trustworthy comes from the way they react to situations. Others are more inclined to trust...

Personal Responsibility Essay

...Personal Responsibility Essay Responsibility is the action taken to uphold you on a personal level to let yourself become a better person. Being responsible especially on a personal level is not an easy task as it also deals with ethics, morals and being dependable and the sort in a sense that is a responsibility in its self. My number one responsibility is being responsible for my actions and suffering the consequences if I do something wrong. In the same sense if I do what’s right I will reap the rewards so to say. Morals are normally taught in childhood or in a church setting. Basically it’s like the Bible says, “Whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap.” (KJV). In basic terms it is saying if you do good you will get good rewards; If you do bad works you will get bad things in return that’s why being responsible is so important. People need to be able to depend on you but if you’re not a very mature responsible person than whom are people going to trust. “Personal responsibility is the willingness to both accept the importance of standards that society establishes for individual behavior and to make strenuous personal efforts to live by those standards. But personal responsibility also means that when individuals fail to meet expected standards, they do not look around for some factor outside themselves to blame. The demise of personal responsibility occurs when individuals blame their family, their peers, their economic circumstances, or their society for...
